<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>This is completely off topic, but …..
Many posts on this thread relate to Casey and his non affection to the mass of posters on this forum. It got me thinking about this site and what we may have been discussing (if it existed) in;
’88 … the middle of the Lawson years
’91 … the middle of the Rainey years
’96 … the middle of the Doohan years
I could go back further, but these are the years I fondly look back on!
It would be hard (ie impossible) to argue that any of the above had an extrovert personality like Rossi does. Were they good … .... yeah … they were the cream of the crop! Let’s face it, they are all boring as bat ....!
If we were posting on this site in the years I mentioned above, what would we be talking about?!
IMO (that’s for you Gaz) … we’d be talking about hard racing, not personalities. I read most of the .... on this site and it is all about personalities. Who the .... cares!
Let me delve closer. The majority of posters on this forum are either; American, British or Australian. My utmost apologies to all the other nationalities that contribute interesting, thought provoking and intuitive posts on this site. Reality is, you are the minority. If this wasn’t an English speaking forum, I have no doubt there would be a lot more support and a lot of contradiction for a lot of topics here from (especially) Spanish posters. That’s just the way it is I suppose.
Nationalistic pride always exists and it does obviously does on this forum. The “yanks” here will push the Hayden and Edwards barrow (they should be pushing half because Colin is a half aussie), the Aussies the Stoner barrow and the Brits … .... … they have had nothing to cheer for, for a long time! Lot’s of support for JT, Scott Redding, Danny Webb and carrot top, but that’s all opportunistic … sorry but it’s true!
Where am I going …
Rossi tends to transcend all. He is the dominant personality, the dominant rider … the greatest of all time?!
It’s a bit like supporting Manchester United … the majority do … because they want to back a winner! Are they really passionate about the sport … that’s doubtful!
Thanks Krusty, the recognition is appreciated (as is the fact that someone realises I am to lazy to type in my opinion).
I would say you and I have the sam opinions here as I have basically been saying this here and other places for a while (and copping a bit of flack at times) for what I simply believe is Stoner being measured against the Rossi personality.
By the way, Krusty - are you an ex-racer?
