Stoner's health issues

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (somedamnwriter @ Jul 15 2009, 01:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>why is it pure ....?

im still convinced its the anxiety bringing on the stomach cramps thats all.

just cant see how gastiris doesnt show its face all week till racetime, i dont remember gastiris going and coming it was constant for me.... stoner is fine all week until its time to ride

when i have a anxiety bout i get the stomach problems real bad the burning, belching, being sick , and felling like my stomach is in a knot. doctor's told me it can play havok with your stomach.

im not saying these are excuses for stoner im just saying they way it happens seems more like anxiety to me.... and that anxiety would have that effect.

because sometimes, articles just include what is most pressing or most relevant to the event (i.e. race day)...hence, they just tell us that stoner is having cramps on race day or race weekend, they don't have to report what happens to stoner every single day.

well, it wassn't constant for me too...just when i'm really stressed or when i accidentally taken in something that increases the acidic level of my stomach...but no, it wasn't constant

Jaz, my understanbding from what I read is that these are the diagnosed illnesses/symptoms.

The actual cause of these has not been identified as yet and it is possible that yes, anxiety and/or stress would contribute to making these illnesses appear on or around raceday. But, that does not mean that they are not present 24x7, just that they rear their heads at the critical times.

But I agree, there is an underlying issue at hand that will likely be identified but probably never released to the public (and really, nor should it as it is private)

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2009/Stoner+...despite+illness
Well of course he'll 'battle on'.
Its not like the championship is going to wait for him. If he dosent race then he can kiss good bye to his chances this season.
In the scope of things, I think him feeling a bit poorly is pretty minor compared to some of the injuries riders 'battle on' with.
Perhaps he should bring a note from his mum.

Stoner is riding doubly ...... up. From his illness and from his massive crash at Laguna. He could easily do what Pedrosa did last year at Laugna and sit out the German gp. But he wont because he is a "true" racer

In all seriousness I think you underestimate the effects of the problem.

Have you ever ridden tired or fatigued?

If so, what happens is you make mistakes and no matter what you try or how hard you concentrate, it gets worse. The mistakes become more frequent and inccrease in magnitude and eventually you make a big mistake which, with luck you will walk away from thinking WTF.

Now, get on a race bike where the heat is channelled at the rider and do the exact same against the best racers in the world for 45 or so minutes straight. Lap after lap, time after time concentrate hard enough to hit that same part of the track each and every lap, the same apex and get your braking markers correct, every lap.

It is very very difficult and debillitating to a fully fit racer, never mind one who has an illness that throws into the mix low Red Blood Cells which are feeding less oxygen to the systems than normal as without the oxygen at the right levels these systems could theoretically start to shut down. Now, throw in the possibility of stomach cramps which can be so severe that you may become nauseous and feel the need to throw up or dry retch.

Physical ailments like those described by Stoner and the doctors are not minor ailments as they can be just as severe as any broken bone and at times could be far worse. One can get a painkilling injection for a sore wrist, shoulder, hip or muclular injury, but there is no magic needle for fatigue or nausea.

None of this makes him for me any special in terms of what he is going through, but nor should it be underestimated as less than the injuries and efforts of Pedrosa and Lorenzo this year.

Im not disputing his riding ability. Im just saying that he knows dam well if he dosent race, his championship is over.

Gaz

fully agree with ur comments Gaz and stoner has proved year in and year out that hes a tough little cockie who will battle on irrespective of the circumstances or his conditions, the duke is a hard bike to ride especially when u have these debilitating conditions as u have described. stoner is like doohan and sheen! he will battle on irrespective of anything that might affect him!

Yes, I could have googled it too. I get the problem.
If it was me, i'd be in bed. But im not a racer. They all know the score. If they are out, they dont score points. Stoner cant and wouldnt let that happen. So lets not make out he should get a round of applause from the paddock. At one time or another, all of them have ridden with serious injuries. Its the nature of the sport.
