The Spain and Italy thing is problematic. ...

Andy, your takes on the matter have been spot the .... on. I would add as you reply to my friend Nuts post, that despite GP being huge in Spain and Italy, they are in fact living on yesterday's debt. They are simply at the moment propped up, like bankrupt Greece. And make no mistake, it will continue to get worse, its part of their culture. Its not the first time Spain has gone bankrupt. Yeah, that's right, the country of Spain has gone under once before, this after leeching all the loot and resources with slave labor from Latin America, making them on of the richest counties on Earth, but they waisted it. They are being propped up today, but as you correctly say Andy, is all a facade. Kinda reminds me of the VR facade that nobody believed...pre 2011. Thank God Carmelo Clause for bailout, eh?
<

I'm actually pretty close to you and I often ride down through Numinbah and Murwillumbah on by bike (bycycle not motor). Keep your eyes out, you will also often see a former Aust WSB world champion and MotoGP winner floating around the same track on a bike also.

One of the big problems in Spain, is the collapse of the employment structure, particularly in the South. Officially Spain has approx. 25% unemployment and close to 50% of males under 25 are unemployed. This puts a huge strain on the country.

In reality, the real situation is nothing like this, with a huge proportion of work being undeclared, under the table, while people still claiming benefits . The problem though is reduced tax income and higher unemployment benefits creating massive strain on the country.

Austerity measures in Greece reduce money in the economy. Less money going around, less VAT, less income tax, and more likelyhood for people to do exactly as they are in Spain. The problem for the Government gets worse not better, and they turn to the only reliable source of income, big business who cannot get around government regulations........

They need complete economic reform.

I won't even start on the incompetent idiots in government in Australia, and the corrupt dealings with the mining industry (could go on for pages).

None of any of which has anything to do with Stoner ruining the sport.

As I see it, Stoner is a simple guy, who simply wants to race bikes, and be the best. He's not interested in the money, the fame, corporate sponsorship, or the political ........ that surrounds any sport and favoritism of all things Spanish and Italian. He has finally spat the dummy, and packed up to go home. In doing so, giving up on his biggest goal, to match the number of wins of his idol, Mick Doohan.

He hasn't ruined the sport, he's simply a square peg that does not fit in a round hole. Because he has been outspoken and said exactly what he thinks, to whoever he wants, he has come under a lot of critisism. He has however bitten the hand that feeds him.

Would the situation be treated differently if it was Rossi or Lorenzo saying the same things, probably, but neither of them would be silly enough to be so outspoken, because their motivations are different.

No question the sport is hugely popular in Spain and Italy, but its needs to become more mainstream around the world. There is huge interest in bike racing in Asia, and South America, but very little effort made in these areas. I think DORNA should appoint a Board of Directors to manage each of MotoGP and WSB, with the board made up of reps from different areas of the world, and including some business leaders and former riders. The Board to manage the direction, tech regulations, and business dealings of the sport. Frankly, the model used with V8Supercars in Aust is not bad, where 75% of the series is owned by the teams that hold the racing licenses, and 25% owned by the managing company.

Ezy can stay on as a figure head if his ego desires, but the structure needs to change somehow.

1. Hey Nuts, firstly - aren't the roads around us heaven. When I get my third party over and done with I'm going to post some helmet cam video of the Burringbar range, Numiinbah Valley, everywhere around Canungra and so on. Doing it on a pushbike is insane

2. Ran into Bayliss already - we have a very weak link (that I was far more impressed with than he) in that we are the same age, he went to school in Taree and I in Kempsey (both Mid North Coast NSW .... holes) but both came from that Mid North Coast bike scene (very moto x enduro-ish). We probably played against each other in school sport or raced bikes but alas for neither of us it was an enduring memory, but I do remember teaching a bloke from Taree with funny teeth how to back it in...nah couldn't have been.

3. Agree with assessment of Stoner - Square peg round hole. I view it as a shame that being just a great rider is no longer enough. Money corrupts the purity of anything and everything, but I know it is far too idealistic in the shadow of modernity where we have sporting billionaires now for it be be any different (there is a Mark Twain quote for that...)

4. Board of directors - brilliant. Why didn't I think of that.

5. Finally - you are a cyclist (obviously - you say so) These days I only swim but do 10+kms in the pool every week. Any time there is an ocean (or river) swim I'm there. If you do that we should catch up and attract sharks for a while then have a beer, or skip all the hard stuff and have a beer. I am going to be back on a motorbike soon so PM me if you want to have a buzz around the mountains - also, I'm sure Bunyip and/or Digger are Gold Coasters as well. we could nearly form a sub chapter and embark on evil plans or world domination, or caffeine consumption or something.

I smell Bromance!

Didn't you read, I'm forming an evil chapter of Australian power sliders bent on world domination.

Or perhaps some gustatory event (that could be very loosely called bromance).

Jump on a plane, I've read all of these "race and fight posts". I'll race you to the bar!!!

When I get drunk I've been known to (whilst falling) back it into the bar, or the floor.

Will you guys shut up about Crystal creek and the like!

I so was going to just jump on the bike and go up to my brothers place up there!

Well that was at the start of the hol.s. I now have 3 days left!

Yes Arab ! You heard it right! Arab! Along with Mongolia, China etc. There are places in the world that I would gladly visit for free,

The tweed area is one of them, as opposed to Wannabeington on Sespool. .

Nothing like breaky at Newrybar then a ride round Federal down to Mullupcity.

3 days ...??? I wonder ? How's the traffic up there

weather perfect - traffic so so in the school hol - Crystal Creek in 5 - 10 minutes from my place tops.

Drop us a line.

I'm down for world domination Andy, as long as world domination involves beer haha!

As nice as it is up here at the moment baz, watch those school holidays coppers. Those .......s have no sense of humor.

My brother also lives down there at Hastings point, just bought himself a nice new vrf800 after retiring his sv1000 to the paddock. That should go ok through burringbah

Stoner is apparently racing at Motegi; it is even on the general media in Australia.

Oh coppers!! no worries there. I often ride tailend charlie cos of my uncanny ability to piss off coppers. I can ride so slow it sends em nuts.
<
<
<
seriously. One I had one guy trapped behind me years ago for about 50 km when he gave up he did so in the biggest paddy chuck handbrakey ( backing it in for Arab ) that you've ever seen. I also got one poor copper stuck behind me on the Putty, just as we hit the unpassable bends bit. He tried to get me on the way back with a radar too ..... but I kinda had been warned where he was
<
<
<

If you think I piss folk off on here .... try being a copper and pulling me up ........ the other day I was on the way home and got the full light treatment and all, I think they just do it to see if you will pull over then try something on ...... but .... him I was on my way home and nothing was stopping me!! He gave up a few km's down the road.

Just PM - my life is coming back to me now. I'll be back on my BMW shortly and looking for an Aprilia.

Now I can't have you blokes bagging the cops too much. After 25 years of it I make the point that I wrote my last speeding ticket in 1989. I support +50% open road speed limits for bikes and to be honest most of the cops I ride with are inclined to support that as well.

Put me down for part-time membership of the Australian Powersliders world domination Chapter. Especially the beer part!

When not working in miserable old Blighty I live in Boonah, so not too far from you. I should hopefully be home from Nov to early Jan - still trying to swing it with work

Yeah, golden representation of Gen X (or whatever they are called).

Last heard, this guy upset someone obviously a fair bit bigger and tougher then him and his school boy mates, and he received a well deserved attitude realignment.
