Half-decent machine? How can you assume that at the moment? It hasn't even been put through the paces in race conditions yet.

Good point, but I base my assumptions on the fact that it's a Honda. Even if it is two tiers removed from the prototype, a de-tuned satellite Honda is still an upgrade over the GP13.

Also, Stoner seems to be going pretty damn fast on it in testing...although the man was fast on the Ducati so you have to take that with a grain of salt.

resonator has a point, being a 3rd tier machine, Honda won't let the proddy's disrupt the factory machines.  However at some tracks the proddy could possibly give the satellite spec bikes some trouble.

A lot of speculation over how the 20 liter's will affect everyone, it's been rumored Honda are already finishing races on 20 liters this year, if that's the case their performance next year will remain the same....dominant.  Yamaha and Ducati however is another story, they may be affected over race distance as well as their satellite counterparts.  Qualifying the factory and satellite's will rule supreme, but race day could get interesting.

Overall I still think Nick will be running around challenging for the same position he is now 8th - 9th until the Ducati's get sorted.

I don't think the production racer will be capable of beating the factory Honda's. This is in my oppinion, the biggest problem with this series. They keep introducing more and more noncompetitive bikes. Get rid of MSMA or non-MSMA rule set. It's one or the other, not both. We want to see more bikes capable of winning. At this rate we'll continue to have 4 bikes capable of wining and 18-20 bikes capable of running mid-pack to end of field. This series is a bit of a joke.

Part of the problem is their is a preconceived notion that these bikes are non-competitive and have virtually no chance of winning.

True.  However, if Stoner puts in two days on a machine and publicly pronounces that it's a solid platform, that's a fairly stout endorsement.

Like him or not, he's not known for embellishment or small talk.  Stoner spoke more than once indicating that he was impressed with the bike and that it exceeded his expectations.  All things being equal, I think taking that at face value is warranted.

This machine needs to challenge the slowest Tech 3 rider.  If it can do that within a season or two = mission accomplished.

I was thinking the same thing. Stoner definitely isn't shy about voicing his opinion, so when he says the RCV is a decent bike, I tend to believe him.

Also keep in mind he was critical of the whole CRT concept. So if it was slow, I think he would have said so (or at least not said anything given he is employed by HRC). His comments indicated that the bike was way better than he expected and that it should actually be competitive. A bit down on power, but then so is everything compared to an RC213V.

Of course, if it is slow next year, everyone will still blame the bike and not those responsible for riding it (as per the Satellite bikes).

Aprilia really look like they got shafted the way this is playing out.

Not so sure re: Stoner's comments.

This .... will come straight from Corporate Affairs/Public Relations. They may well be words 'quoted' on his behalf.

Telling is the complete lack of any official word of lap times. Or a (.......) tweet.

Employees (and that is exactly his capacity as a tester) aren't exactly given freedom to voice their own opinions in these affairs. Until Honda sells them all, I remain skeptical.

I think the proof is that Honda are proposing that the "production racer" does not use the full 24 litres allowed under the rules.

I would also be surprised if Stoner has learnt to dissemble for political or financial advantage this soon into his retirement.

Re: 24 litres. I reckon that's just Honda showing off and/or preparing themselves for the nexy round of rule changes that will likely see the bikes getting more "proddy".

Re: Dissembling. Agree, that's why I reckon the words have come via a flack.

According to this report;

Newly crowned BSB champion Alex Lowes might be coming to MotoGP courtesy of Paul Bird Motorsport.

Not sure how I feel about this. One the one hand I'm glad to see a British rider be given the opportunity to compete in MotoGP, but as I'm also planning on following BSB more closely and attending more live events next year, I'll miss him on the grid over there.

It's a shame they can't clone him...

Um, there will be 4-5 (depending on Laverty keeping his seat/Lowes getting the other one) riders from the UK in MotoGP next year.  So they aren't exatly hurting for representation.
