SEPANG: 2nd Official MotoGP TEST

Good to see Nicky in the top 3, will be interesting to see which American does the best this season.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (michaelm @ Feb 26 2010, 06:56 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Very interesting. As someone said somewhere even without competition from michelin bridgestone may still be improving the tyres significantly.

I think it is very likely rossi is sandbagging with no lorenzo to whom he wishes to make a point.

I am more than happy to see nicky at the pointy end, but as primarily a stoner fan I maintain some hope that stoner also has something in reserve. I don't dismiss the possibility that his synergy with the ducati screamer was unique and that the ball-game has changed in regard to other ducati riders and as to which tracks are now ducati tracks.

Yeah because thats his style to hold back, right?

And it's offical I have a man-crush (no ....) on Spies.

The engine rule seems to have levelled the field, now even Suzuki seems competitive and Hayden is finally catching up with Stoner. Bautista is doing very well, not far from a veteran like Capi on the same bike, and in front of people like De Puniet and Melandri.

Rossi said this test day was more like a qualifying session, judging from the effort everybody produced, so it may be considered more significant. Two Ducatis have ended up behind Valentino and in front of the rest of the Yamahas; they might have been 2nd and 4th had Lorenzo been there, anyway Spies and Edwards are close.

Simoncelli is clearly struggling, more than other rookies. Too early to tell, but I was one of those expecting more from him.

We all complain so much about the stupid rules, but this 2010 promises to be a memorable year.

Wow, when I came in this morning and looked on Crash, I was sort of closing my eyes to see where Hayden woudld be. To my surprise he was top 3, then I said to myself he was on a Q...but realized they don't have them anymore and I started thinking maybe Nick has actually got along better with the Duc, but I'm going to wait and see how things shake out in the next test because we know Nicky is fast if given enough time to setup the bike, and at Sepang he had lots of time to tweak the bike to his liking and test conditions were similiar from one weekend to the other. I still have my fingers crossed that Nick has found the magic, but don't want to get my hopes up just yet.
Rossi....damn what can I say, he is awesome, and I think this years championship from top to bottom will be full of close battles and exciting racing...fingers crossed on that one too.

.
A style which has not been particularly successful in the last 2 seasons, and at least partly motivated in my view by the attitudes of those of your ilk who fairly completely discounted his world championship. When he did have the purported huge bike advantage in 2007 he didn't lead pre-season testing however.

As you among many have argued 2007 is well and truly in the past now, and he is again now definitely an underdog; whether he can change his approach admittedly remains to be seen.

The constant changing of the rules imo is the most stupid thing of all.

But now and then they have to get in a good rule, right? But rest asured, they will soon come up with another change canceling that out.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Feb 25 2010, 07:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Not sure why you feel the need to interject while I'm having a go at Babel, as you must have been elected the playground ref; but...

Babel's statement was definitive (since you bring up semantics, you do understand this word, right?:

He's declared, they are identical. (Of course he later says they are very close, which is what you quoted, typical covering of all the bases letting him get away with iron clad assertions--I call ........).

You see, that's not what Babel said, as I'm sure you understand English (I say this because Fish has sometimes has pulled the 'lost in translation' card). They either have the "same" .... or they have "close" to the same ..... (You decided to interject on something I am not disputing, yeah, they are similar and closer now, but Fishy said they are the same.)

This is why I call Babel on it, because he has a tendency of making definitive statements based on his imagination. Iron clad assertions like the infamous "Stoner uses the most TC" & of course "Rossi's tires were 'shredding'". It's Babel's MO when he wants to either denigrate or excuse a performance depending on his given inclination of the rider (love Rossi, hate Stoner). Well he's extended this subtle (perhaps for you) way of explaining why Spies is doing relatively good. (Obviously you haven't picked up on Babel's skepticism toward Spies, of which he will now deny or go back and edit).

^Micky, learn to read between the lines...

Definitive? No. Kinda reminds me of when Valentino said him and Lorenzo had the "same" bike, only for Lorenzo in another interview to admit, he was still waiting on some parts that his teammate had; leaving Valentino to backpedal later. And considering the source, its more like--translation, 'yeah, we've given all our riders the best stuff and 'nearly' the same ....; (oh really?)

All these highlights just to go back at 2000 when Rossi in Nastro Azzurro had ‘Nearly’ the same ...., yet somehow 'Not exactly the Same' ....… right Jumkie?

You know me hermano… bugging little sucker bopper, or should I just say:

Go 46! Again and four days in a roll, bring on the toddlers!

I didn't bother wading through this mess, just skipped to the end. Hayden only .2 behind Stoner? I know it's only testing, but it's February. Hayden doesn't make his progress until he gets to Assen. Go on son!

Good to see Nicky back at the front. It's been great if Lorenzo can joint this Sepang Test. Well from the results, I foresee 2010 will be between Yamaha and Factory Ducati..well plus Repsol Honda once in a while

Huh, what? Did I just read that right? Nicky only .432 slower than Rossi? 3rd quickest?

Must still be asleep. I need a drink.

Oh yeah: Go Nicky!!!!!

L8, I'm with you. I'm now shy about looking at lap times with both eyes. I usually squint and look down the list for Nicky's name. When I don't see it my first thought is, he wasn't on the grid. Then of course I'm skeptically joyous when I see him near the top. Still a test (as any reasonable people mentioning) but I'll take any glimmers of hope to fuel my unfettered hope for a good season (regardless of how illusive it has proven to be since the switch).

V mi amigo, you were wrong then and still haven't learned the lesson...

Ah buddy, That's what I'm trying to tell you and Fishy (which you keep missing), that is you make these ridiculous assessments based on a screen shot then later be shown to be wrong (fact, or was Rossi lying?). So what's the lesson here? Answer: Don't make ridiculous assessments based on your interpretation of what you think you see on TV (as Babel is fond of doing).

Are you also gonna put up the screen shot that shows Stoner having the most TC?

Except you said they are the same. Must be a lost in translation thing again. Had he said they are identical, then you'd have a point. Tell me something Fishy, when one rider says the bike is the "same" then his teammate says they are not, who is having the issue with translation?

Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi completed a clean sweep of both MotoGP pre-season tests, at Sepang in Malaysia, courtesy of a record-breaking Friday lap time.

Undefeated at the first test of the year at the same circuit on February 4-5, the Italian picked up where he left off during this week's return visit. The Fiat Yamaha rider was fastest on both Thursday and Friday, clocking a flying 2min 0.271sec on lap 12 of the last day.

That was 0.654sec under his fastest lap from the first test and beat the official lap record for a MotoGP bike at Sepang, which Rossi himself recorded during qualifying for last October's grand prix, by 0.247sec.

1/4 sec better than the lap record well done #7

Yeah but as we all know, 0.432 in moto gp is an eternity. Calculate that over a race distance and its obvious there's a lot more work needs to be done. Still its nice to see nicky in the top part of the timing sheet.
