SEPANG: 2nd Official MotoGP TEST

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (chopperman @ Feb 26 2010, 11:24 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Well he didnt switch to stones for a different sticker on his bike did he ?

Right on mate, main reasons for a Stones change. Also I was not making a point about a good or bad tire decision (Too obviously bad one!). I just pointed out that there was tire ‘shredding’, which after seeing the chunks of tire flying off in live video (pictures), in my view it qualifies as top ‘shredding’!

If I remember correctly, Nicky didn't set the world alight at Valencia when they debuted the big bang. Nicky said it was a setup "breakthrough" that is responsible for his improvement.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mylexicon @ Feb 26 2010, 08:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Everyone had to chop revs off of the top in order to make engine life requirements. Without the top end, the screamer had no purpose. I doubt Hayden had anything to do with the new engine, particularly b/c Ducati have run big bang firing orders in the past.

Good point. In a way I said don't speculate then I finished by speculating...cripes.

As I recall, we saw a 'setup breakthrough' last year as well, which momentarily lead to some fast times during Friday qualifiying...I think this was at Brno where in the absence of Casey, Nicky was top qualifying Ducati. He also parked it on the second row at Misano (and we all remember what happened during the race). There might be a light at the end of the tunnel, but if this is another false dawn, the sun may well be setting on Nicky's Moto GP career. Saying that, it's not as though he's in the twilight of his career overall, I'd love to see him stomp all over WSBk before he takes over Earle's used car business. Nicky deserves something out of the his work. This formula has not been easy for him, and you do feel that he's come a huge way in adapting his style. Where most were able to do this in pre season testing 2006-2007, it's taken Nicky the best part of three seasons
<
Yeah he had the ludicrous Pedrocycle to contend with, and the curtailment of testing time last year crucified him on the Desmo, but he needs to be up there this year - and that's going to be very, very hard 'breakthrough' or not.

Since when has pre season Sepang - or even Jerez portended much about the season to come anyway? It's the same every year. In fact, forget Qatar and Motegi, we'll really start to know something on European soil when the checkered flag waves at Jerez, third race in.

Actually, Can anyone confirm, but I'm sure I read that the annual Jerez TV showdown is no more due to further cost cutting. Maybe they've just taken away the beemer this year.

Great pics, thanks!

"Tight the clutch, twist the breaks a bit, done my job… Now that your guy is out, could I come in?" That mechanic's intentions are by no way innocent!

No IRTA test this year (....... cost cutting). Qatar last official test

stoner seems to have been suffering cramping problems...

That guy has some serious problems, he's obviously got the same problems as before, unless he can conquer this I think this will be his last season, in fact I'll go as far to say I don't think he's going to make it past the first half of the season. I think he should be looking at meditation not fishing, it's a shame because he could be a multiple champion, but not like this. Lorenzo's hungry and Pedro is still in the chase, not to mention the new guys coming up they've, all got something to prove. To stay at the top you've got to be 100%.

weight did he lose during off season?

And Burgess looks like he's been mixing ludes with his beer.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pigeon @ Feb 26 2010, 12:35 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi completed a clean sweep of both MotoGP pre-season tests, at Sepang in Malaysia, courtesy of a record-breaking Friday lap time.

Undefeated at the first test of the year at the same circuit on February 4-5, the Italian picked up where he left off during this week's return visit. The Fiat Yamaha rider was fastest on both Thursday and Friday, clocking a flying 2min 0.271sec on lap 12 of the last day.

That was 0.654sec under his fastest lap from the first test and beat the official lap record for a MotoGP bike at Sepang, which Rossi himself recorded during qualifying for last October's grand prix, by 0.247sec.

1/4 sec better than the lap record well done #7

I avoid the wishful thinking thing . . . but you know how people have so frequently
bemoaned the way Stoner has always made such a point of dominating practice and
rubbing everybody's nose in it. Maybe (just maybe) he's being discreet and doin' just
a leetle bit of the sandbagging?
<
Hard to imagine Stoner's game is that far off that
Rossi could dominate so completely at Sepang? Doesn't seem almost too good to be true?
I'm betting Stoner will let the dogs out when it really counts. See you at Quatar.
