Rossi & the Valencia test

Preziosi: "Rossi went with his heart"

(from GpOne)

“I wasn't shocked. ” Those are the words Filippo Preziosi, the father of the Desmosedici, chose to describe his reaction to the Rossi signing. He had a long standing relationship with the rider, having stayed in touch with him for several years now, and so he saw the decision as the natural conclusion to a long and delicate process.

Preziosi spoke about the numerous steps along the way, from the first phone calls to the mutual respect and admiration that developed between the two as their personal relationship grew. He couldn't specify a specific moment when he became sure about Rossi's intentions, prior to the rider actually making a promise to him.

“When he gave me his word I no longer had any doubts in my mind," Preziosi revealed. And now he, along with everyone else, is eagerly awaiting Valentino's first test on the GP11, to hear what feedback the nine time champion has to give.

A test, the traditional post Valencia season wrap up, which Yamaha has yet to give approval for.

“There is nothing absolutely indispensable in life, but it would be nice if Vale could do it”, Preziosi added..

He is an engineer that, by his own admission, doesn't think of the bike as a machine, but rather, "as my baby: I hope Valentino treats her well. To him the bike is a woman, for me it is like a daughter. I trust him with my girl."

When people bring up age i laugh tbh.....doohan was forced to retire at 34 due to a leg break(amongst other things). Had it not been for that injury he likely would have dominated for at least a couple more years. Furthermore he carried lots of old injuries when he was winning the titles in 97,98.

Valentino is 31......and to date thats one of his ONLY bad injuries, for which the recovery has gone really well so far.

I can see his going until he is about 35 barring any bad injury....or maybe when he has his tenth title

the age thing isn't about ability. its about Rossi enjoying other types of racing and leaving motorcycles while he can still be competitive in other disciplines. once he gets those records he so badly wants i don't think he will stick around.
