Race One 2019 - Losail Raceway - Doha, Qatar

I love Lorenzo’s spirit and love watching him race when he is on it. But this endless crashing has to stop, especially when he is not 100% fit. He needs to do a personal reset, kind of like he did after his early period in MotoGP when he was also crashing a lot. We all know you can’t win the race at the first corner or even the third practice, he needs to remember this too.
It just won’t do for him to crash as much as Crutchlow!
Ok, on with it. I hope he is ok.

I reckon he's putting a lot of extra pressure on himself to show early potential on the Honda in contrast to the long journey to competitiveness he showed on the Ducati.

Marquez is starting to worry me, a lot more than JLo. He can't be crashing all the time like he did before the surgery and survive to take the championshipS crown away from Rossi.

Was it the conditions or self-induced pressure that caused these unnecessary crashes? He already set the track record. He needs to push a little less in open practice, like Dovi does in free practice. That is my amateur psychologist opinion.

Interesting that qualifying sets up my hypothetical race pretty well. Just that Lorenzo and Rossi will be beating on each other behind Zarco. Go Johann.

How good was Vinales, Yamaha have to ditch the t-shirt salesman, he was dreadful, hopefully they will now tell Rossi, sorry chum but you're crap and we will be favouring Vinales, from now on.

Conditions mostly. Cal and others pressed Dorna to move the race to a time slot an hour earlier because that 8:00 start means the accumulation of dew on the surface is that much more unpredictable. An hour earlier the track is much safer - but Dorna turned them down outright.

Watch FP 4. Marquez was riding relatively conservative - 2 seconds off full out attack pace and went down for no apparent reason. This track surface sucks.

If temp drop comparably at race time, look for the Hondas to struggle on hard tires and expect Ducs on the box.

An analysis I've not seen before.

I feel the conditions are going to dictate performance more than shown previous pace. First they must finish.

It’s pretty embarrassing really when the riders unanimously vote for an early start time due to legitimate safety concerns and they’re turned down. I know I’m not alone in hating watching races that become a battle of survival with riders going down from making little to no mistakes.

Trying to watch Moto2 and stupid Dorna website is frozen and useless.

Glad it isn't just me. Went to login and it keeps throwing the bad gateway 502 error page. They better get their .... together ASAP for the GP.

they had a live feed up on their facebook for a while, but they took it down. it seemed a lot of peopler were complaining about the streaming service being down from all over the world

Good race. I’m not sure if Dovi will be happy with how hard he had to work for that one. Vinales still doesn’t know how to start a race. Rossi did a good job to finish as high as he did. I still think if Honda and not just Márquez are doing that well at Qatar it’s going to be hard for anyone to stop the Honda/Márquez combo.

MotM goes to Iannone for crashing on the cool down lap. Seriously though probably Cal Crutchlow should get MotM.

Good job by Dovi, congrats.
But I can't help feeling that MM seems the real deal, once again. I didn't think he would be that competitive. Argentina & Texas are coming, that's bad news for everybody else.

I still can't believe this guy, Vinales. I mean I was downplaying yesterday's performance on the grounds that he may still be bad at starts, but
It's hard to watch it happen again though & what's even worse is the fact that he was nowhere even in his -traditionally- strong second part of the race.

Congrats to Cal as well & Rins, they were fantastic to watch. And Vale of course

But MM has always been the real deal, I don't get into this theory of "this year he is already good in Qatar, let alone the rest... bla bla", last year he had trouble and still fought with Dovi until last meters, indeed he got second place by 0.027, this year by 0.023...

Honda did not do anything incredible with the engine, in fact they already had a very powerful engine, now they just work in firing order, if you get to hear the engine, clearly is a mid-term between a big-bang and an screamer engine. It got more power in high revs in expense of power in low revs, we could CLEARLY see Dovi exiting corners much stronger than Marquez and after 5th gear Honda is well more elastic. It's a game of compromise, not miracles. If Ducati change its firing order to behave more elastic, Dovi would hit 360 KM/h in the straight in Qatar.

There is no incredible Honda (actually I bet in low grip scenarios they will struggle a lot), this year will be very tough but still MM is MM, he is a level above all others as we know. I don't think Dovi will have all the ingredients needed to win the title.

Suzuki has grown a LOT, and that machine is a corner devil. Super fast in mid-corner, incredible, they just need a slightly better engine.

What is Vinales? A fart... I was betting he was the only one capable of stop MM, but seems I lost this bet. I really don't know anymore who Yamaha should favor, Rossi is old but started miles far away and still 5th ahead of MV, LOL... Rossi is Rossi.. Yamaha should help him.

Lorenzo? LoL... as expected (at least by me). No easy life for him outside Yamaha realm. Actually, I would say Suzuki would fit Lorenzo the most. He should really consider it.

Problem for Ducati they have always exploited the rules in both SBK & Motogp. History has taught them & us when they piss Honda off they lose. If HRC was to employ all those little trickery bits they would be in big trouble. Remember the RC51!!! As it stands with all the tricks they can throw on the bike they can barely get ahead of the RCV. They really need to learn how to make a proper bike. They won this race but got schooled by Suzuki on how a bike works in a corner.

As for yamaha, sure they won't complain. It will be on their mule in Argentina.
