May I ask how a tire supplier is chosen? Just curious about the process. Thanks. But the more changes, the more chances others have to catch up Ducati, no? If yes, then I see it as a good thing.

Talk about your chaos factor. Who knows which manufacture's bike the tire will favor - if any.
Would be funny as hell if the Pirellis only worked well with the Honda.

The main criterion seemed to be supplying the tyres free with the control tyre, I think Bridgestone got out because they were not interested in providing tyres which were not the best they could make, and iirc Carmelo at one stage wanted tyres that wore out to supposedly enhance the racing:/ bring an element of change during a race perhaps aping F1 as was his frequent wont.

Now the same guys own F1 and MotoGP Pirelli being the F1 supplier may have come into it.

Monopoly is some of it too and as you alluded to, Liberty now own the rights to F1 and MotoGP. With F1, Moto2 and Moto3 using Pirelli, it makes sense.

It will be much harder to design a 2027 850 bike to use a tyre that they have never tried.
Doubtful, but I wonder if they will base their tyre initially of Moto2 data, which is currently the closest we have to 850cc MotoGp bikes.

Of course, a MotoGP bike that is heaver, has aero load and carbon brakes is going to load the tyre a lot more

It does change the entire landscape of how the factories will prepare for 2027. It’s almost a complete reset for everyone.
I wouldn’t bet against Ducati getting it right but it could make it easier for the other factories to bridge the gap now that they would all restart at the same point essentially.
