MotoGP 2023 silly season.

It’s going to take somebody brave with skills who can think out of the box and is capable of working with Honda to develop the package.

An outsider who wants to get into MGP.

Toprak? A big ask I know. He’s surely pulling down the big bucks in WSB.
But, if you want to go to the top class…..

Part of me wonders if Keenan Sofuoglu isn't managing Toprak through the results of his own career. He was a beast in WSSP but never got the hang of WSBK and his brief Moto2 career was lackluster as well. Toprak is in the top echelon of WSBK but would he be able to make it in MotoGP? Only one way to find out. He had a "positive" but rain shortened test on the M1. Cal gave him some pointers. All moot at this point as there is no seat available at Yamaha.

True. But there SHOULD be a seat at Yamaha.

They have two bikes on the grid. One of them wins and the other one can’t get out of its own way.

Yup, and as I said earlier no way is this a question of Franco finding a setting and running at the front. I personally think he knee injury is either limiting him (permanently) or his confidence has gone.

It's not like he's even in the top 10. He is NOWHERE compared to Fabio and by the time Yamaha realise that Franco isn't going to improve then it will be too late to sign any other rider as they will all (Toprak included) likely be signed through end of 2024.

Don't think they're going to get rid of Franco, he's big buddies with Rossi and Yamaha want VR46 has their satellite team in 2024. RNF left because Yamaha would only give them a one year deal.

Yeah if I'm not mistaken, Franco is contracted thru 2023 and Yamaha intend to honor that but if he doesn't get results next year they cannot keep him, at least on the factory team.

Toprak just tested the factory bike. Yamaha brass reiterated that there’s no room on the team.

Man, what do they see in Franco at this point?

Yes they've said they are honouring his contract but this time next yr when he is still running around in 16th, who will be available to take his seat? They wil have to go with a Moto2/Rookie rider.

Not sure who they could poach but I might look at Augusto Fernandez. Earlier in the season, Femin Aldeguer was being courted by several MotoGP teams for 2023....or maybe it was even 2024 as I'm not sure if he will be of age for MotoGP in 2023.

The trouble is, Yamaha is quickly becoming the new Aprila: No-one wants to ride it.

Yeah, everything is interesting to contemplate in silly season. It’s almost a sport in itself.

The thing is, motorsport has changed. It’s always been changing of course, gradually. But it seems now is radically different compared to even just 10 years ago. We as punter spectators on the internet have access to so much more info than we used to have. It’s fascinating to hear and see a little of what is going on behind the curtain.

Interesting to me is to see how in the 50’s and 60’s, there were rich people (individuals) who were interested in racing and willing to spend money on it. Build and finance teams. Drivers and riders seemed to be all or mostly adventurers, some wealthy, some just going for it.

Now it is probably the same in terms of money but it just seems more corporate. The riders seem much more professional and in Europe there farming operations to figure out who is going to be fast and get those riders up and running.

So that are a lot of contenders to ride the relatively few seats available.

Fascinating.

Objectively Fabio has broken the likes of VR46, MM93, PB63, MV12, AD04, FB21 and counting. They simply cannot match him. Are we witnessing something special?

This is a significant achievement particularly in regards to Márquez. I do not foresee a future whereby MM beats FQ.

Imagine FQ on a Ducati, or better yet an Aprilia. I for one would really like to see that Aprilia domination if only.

Not sure what makes you think FQ is "dominating" this season, or why you think he would on other brands.
