Mugello Race

That was a good race. Rossi's record of consecutive wins was broken, and even his teammate beat him ... once again ... on home turf. Gotta admire Vale's PR skills ... smiling and waving at the crowd when inside he's sooo furious and disapointed.

Very good job by Stoner, today it was his confidence what made him win, when the situation was tricky he was going 100% at it like he always does while the others where being a bit more cautious. He didn't have the pace to beat the Yamaha guys but luckily for him the race ended just in time.

Great job by Lorenzo also, given the circumstances IMO he's my nº favourite for the title. I think he's the quickest rider now.

Good effort also from the other Italians (Melandri, Capirossi, Canepa), being at home always is a plus. I was hoping it wouldn't dry out when Marco hit the lead. Same for Capirossi, who I think was letdown by an underpowered bike. I mean when Stoner flew past him on the straight I thought, "ok that's normal, it's a Ducati", when Lorenzo did the same I thought "ok Yamaha has the best bike this year" ... but when Marco's Kawasaki blew him on the straight I was like

what a piece of baby blue junk!

I'm gutted for Dani, injuries are destroying his career.
<
This injury probably meant this is another championship he's not gonna be in the fight for.

I'm I the only one that thinks Edward's motivation in basically to beat JT?? If someday JT Is leading a race ... CE is gonna win that one ... just out of sheer revenge motivation!!

Love it, Teo!!!

That was a great race, though Rossi is 3rd and as my prediction, Stoner won. It will be good if we have more races like this. Too bad for Melandry though at one point he was leading the race. Thought he could finish in Top five. ANother victim is Capirex, riding useless Suzuki. He could have won the race if he was riding a Duke or A Honda.

I thought JT could catch Rossi/Dovi. But Edward beat him..

I hope Dani can come back ASAP

I think what this race proves is that when it's changing conditions, then it's anyones race but when it's dry and Rossi can ride the bike how he wants then he can't be beat.

What part of this season makes you think Rossi can't be beat in dry conditions?
<

You used to be a Hayden fan right (not "the" Hayden Fan) and there was some traumatic incident in the middle, right?

Now you just have to obsess about how much you hate him

OMG that was my theory about pinky /27 whatever. So Pinky/27 were you dissapointed when your hero Nicky told you dirttracking for him didnt involve ladyboys?

Wow! What a race, they were all pretty good actually, I'm just watching it for the 3rd time!!
I must say stoner did deserve that win. But I wish Capirossi had won this one, it would have been nice to see him on the podium again, especially after Marco got up there the last race, it's just like old times again!

I hope pedro's ok to, he looked like he was really in pain.

I didn't say he can't be beat in dry conditions, what I'm saying is that when he can ride how he wants no one can beat him. If he hadn't been put on a hard front tyre, unlike the rest of the guys in front of him then he would have won.

dont you mean "if rossi hadn't chosen the hard front because of issues suffered with the soft front in le mans then he might have won"

nothing in racing is certain, especially winning just because you win there all the time...

Great racing today at the front. Stoner rode a good race, but I was pulling for Capi to put it on the podium, gutted for him. I think the racing is only going to get better, but I am hoping that we can have a race without bike changes and rain. Wow, Lorenzo in front of Rossi again, whew I see some good battles in the coming races, it's getting good ladies and gents.
Nicky, dang what can be said? I think that young man honestly needs some more time on the bike with his new crew chief to possibly see some top 10 results, I've got my fingers crossed for him nonetheless.

part of being a good rider is keeping the thing on the rubber. dani isn't a bad rider, but hes shown he isn't championship material. if he doesn't take it in 09, i think it's time to relegate him to a satellite seat, or to another series. too much young talent out there to let a rider who isn't winning keep a top seat like honda.

Good race today in Mugello. In fact, it reminded me of the old 990s days because whoever wanted it most was going to win. Electro-nanny wasn't deciding the best way in and out of the corners, and the team with the best fuel mappings didn't have an absolute advantage.

Congrats to Stoner, Ducati have been trying to win their home race for a very very long time.

For the second race in succession, Lorenzo beat Rossi.

Interesting indeed. Lorenzo has beaten Rossi more often than not this season.

What a race, some immense skill show out on track last night.

A couple points that im supprised has not come up for discussion on here. Casey's post race comments about his clutch slipping and in turn needing adjustment on the fly.

Basically to perform on the level he did whilst having to drive around another issue its pretty impressive, then to get it fixed but have locking on corner entry with all of those puddles and wet patches is pretty impressive. Even off the start casey lost a bunch of popsitions, he was basically down to 8th by the first corner and then by the end of the first lap was back into 3rd or 2nd.... and the state of Dovi's and Caseys tyres when they came in to change over was nuts.

Lorenzo was brilliant today, really was a class act, I am worried about his championship threat, he is finally believing in himself and man he is fast.

I do think there is a silver lining to Lorenzos pace (as a Stoner fan) its pretty likley that Lorenzo and Rossi will be on the same/similar pace to each other all year long, so basically they will take points off each other. If casey can continue to be up there with them he may be able to jag some wins with Rossi and Lorenzo trading 2nd and thirds....inevitably helping increase the points gap. BUt time will tell.

Brilliant race by casey, to have the issues he has over the course of the weekend and still pull that result out is impressive.

And Lorenzo deserves more than just an honourable mention too.

The "Duke" as you say won't help anyone. Stoner is the only guy in the paddock who can perform on that bike. Four of the bottom five bikes are Ducati's. Capi and Marco are proving to be better than they have been given credit for. The Ducati is fast, that's not the problem. The rideability of that bike is in serious question I think.

I hope the Rossi boppers don't take this one for a ride but here goes. It is the youth that is taking it to Rossi. Not saying the doom and gloom and his career is over. But he is now of the experience group of racers and not of the piss and vinegar group he used to be a part of years ago. Now that doesn't mean he doesn't still have it. It just means he isn't fighting those battles like he used to in conditions where he may not have a good result from like last race. He is getting older now and it is the same for every human being. HE is the greatest of all time but look for him to have much of the same results here on out. The young guns of the sport aren't afraid of the all powerful Valentino. I doubt we will see a whole lotta run away wins from Vale anymore. Sure he is going to still win races I just think it is going to be way harder than it has ever been for him with the current crop of hungry riders.

Your unbiased unhateful comment of Hayden is spot on. He needs to have some time to get a basic feel instead of the throw me in the pot mix crap all of a sudden. All one really needs to do is look at the season so far and look what has happened to Nicky and the little time he has had to get used to the bike at all. I would bet he is with them at least another year so he can have some test time to get used to the beat that is the duc. I would bet by just about everyone elses results on the duc they would want the time as well. Niccolo got the place he did because he has had like a million laps around Mugello since he tested the crap out of it there.

I think your statement goes for every rider in the world. THat is the whole idea of why the setup is so crutial. It is to easy to say he would win cause of who he is but I don't think he will have a future in this career like you think. With the newbies and the yet to come in the GP class he is going to be winning less and less. Get used to it cause every athlete that has ever played, raced or whatever will tell you it is in the cards and you can't no matter what you do get away from it. Fun while it lasted and somewhat of an honor to be around to see what this guy has achieved but he is going to slowly and I mean slowly start to focus on his future doing something else after his contract is up. Shame cause I was hoping he would go to Ducati. If he can't tame that thing then Stoner is truly the most underrtated out of the whole group of riders.
