No idea what sort of tires were tested during the winter, and Qatar is always an unknown quantity because the racing surface is gritty and usually is dormant for a few months before GP. They just held a WEC event in Qatar so this year is extra unknown.

Difficult to bet against Pecco, but there will be some abnormally bad/good performances. Hopefully, the sprint races are a known quantity and people are going to risk their careers for a few points. The injuries last year were unnecessary.

I don't think we had a single GP race last yr that had the full 2024 rider lineup in it for that reason. Let's hope that record isn't extended but given Qatar is less 'busy' than Portimao, I'm optimistic.

This is probably my main issue with RD decisions and the sprint races. You can't on one hand say you are handing down stiffer sanctions and/or changing what is and isn't a racing incident in the name of safety and then introduce an extra race that everyone knew was going to be a mad dash and would cause crashes and injuries.

They do the same thing in the States with American Football. Make new rules and call absurd penalties all in the name of "player safety" and then they extended the season. If there is money to be made they will do it.

I think you guys need to seriously look at removing helmets. It would stop players leading with their heads and actually trying to protect their head rather than hoping the helmet does all the work for them. It will never happen obviously but rugby which has similarities doesn't have anywhere near the same issues with concussion.

Totally agree and they know this. Hence the hypocrisy of calling it a 'sprint', and not a race.

Is there any further news on the tyre pressure regulations this year?

Are they sticking with automatic DQ penalty for any infractions? or using the sliding scale method from last season?

I read last month this was being discussed by Michelin and the Teams/Manufacturers but have seen nothing further, and season is about to begin.

The way I understand it they've dropped the pressure to 1.8 bar so no one should have a problem staying above that during the race. They are out "disqualified" if they do though.

More news regarding tire pressures - Staying below the minimum threshold will be now penalized with a 16 second penalty (8 seconds in sprints)

Rumor has it they have already given a penatly to Binder for both races this weekend.

repsol HONDA looks good under lights.

Pecco struggling during the entire session. Bestia has been consistently on the top spots except at the end when riders were pushing. Strong showing by Marc and Pedro, always in the top spots, and what a save by Acosta! The KTMs seem ready to pick up the pieces.

Season looks promising.
