Because time was up just before he crossed the line.

No .... Sherlock. What I'm saying its the teams jobs to do the math and get the rider out to maximize the number of laps he gets. Missing a chance at another lap by a second is inexcusable. It's just poor ....... planning on the teams part.

The last time they sent him to do a fast lap too late it almost resulted in a murder suicide. Not to mention the time they sent him on an extra lap which resulted in a disqualification. His team is at least consistent.

As Lana Kane would say "Yup"

I just caught the last 5 minutes of q2, so I don't know how long he spent in the garage, but that few seconds in 15 minutes aren't something I feel the team can necessarily plan for. You could just as easily said Marc should've got up to speed quicker.

.... happens, and Marc didn't seem too torn up about it.

I am really digging the sliding around and the closeness of the bikes. Should be a great race.

It's called strategic planning. That should have been worked out down to the second before the session ever started. These guys have a history of .... ups

I thought it was interesting how much more settled the M1 chassis looks versus the RCV chassis. The RCV seemed to get a lot of up and down movement hitting uneven parts of the circuit where the M1 was just gliding over the surface.

Just finished watching qual. A few thoughts, Lorenzo was lucky not to crash. I'm not sure Lorenzo would have been on pole if Marquez or Iannone had not had their issues. Then again, who knows what Lorenzo's lap would have been without that saved crash. Iannone was unlucky not to be on front row, possibly pole, certainly front row had he not caught Redding. Marquez's crew chief made a hand gesture in parc ferme indicating Marquez missed it by a little, but I think he should have been pointing to himself, it was his screw up. I don't know why but every time I see Santi or Alzamora's face on the screen I get a negative vibe, in a word, scumbags. Viñalez was the quali ride of the three. However, before people start throwing around this massively misused ........ term "alien" let's not forget the 'bike' is much improved, the tires obviously suit, and the ECU has been well harnessed. Not to mention Suzuki is an unknown quantity. Congrats to Lorenzo for breaking the poles record. Rossi got the biggest cheers...as he entered the garage.

Rossi getting all those cheers was mind boggling. I was half expecting there to be a crowd at the garage like #TheGrandFarce applauding him on fighting with "one hand tied behind his bike" against the evil Spaniards.

still not sure about this, but did rossi do his Q2 session with his race tire choice(hard front), and lorenzo did his on soft(which i dont think he can use during race),? still very impressive to set that time so early tho, well done by marquez cuz i think he did his laps with hard front too. still weird and kinda stupid how they cant make the simplest calculations, they are top manufacturer and team and the 2 time world champion ffs.

I think Rossi is going to make whining his modus operandi for 2016:

Lorenzo commented that Rossi's decision to re-sign was easier since he had no other options. Rossi responded to rumours that Lorenzo may leave Yamaha for Ducati by saying 'changing bikes takes balls, so he will remain'.

Just hours after re-signing for Movistar Yamaha, Valentino Rossi found himself tangling with team-mate and reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo.

The pair crossed paths during final practice for this weekend's Qatar season-opener, Rossi immediately gesturing his frustration to Lorenzo at being held up. The arm-waving then continued at the end of the session, as they lined-up to do a practice start.

“He exited from the pit without looking at the track and when he arrived at the first corner he tried to slow down, but he was on the line,” Rossi explained. “The problem is that I say 'why?' and I expect 'sorry', but he [look] to me like 'what you f**king want?'

“Then when we try the practice start I go to him again, but anyway...”

Speaking in the earlier press conference, Lorenzo - who is yet to accept his new Yamaha contract offer - said he was confused as to why Rossi appeared so agitated by the incident:

"In my opinion he had no reason to complain. Everyone knows when you exit the pits you cannot stop [completely] to let them past. The only thing you can do is stay on the white line. I cannot be in the gravel. What can I do? If he is still angry with me I don't know the reason, you have to ask him."

But Rossi still clearly remembers when the roles were reversed at Misano last season.

“The problem is that this situation happened exactly the same in Misano qualifying, where I did the same mistake. He was very angry with me after and in the end they gave me one [penalty] point. But they don't give to him one point.

“I don't go to Race Direction to say 'one point', but I saw [race director] Mike Webb here [in the paddock] so I said, 'why one point to me and not to him!' I don't know why, but it is not a big problem.”

That penalty point went on to have major implications for Rossi's 2015 title hopes since, when he later received three penalty points for the incident with Marc Marquez at Sepang, it triggered a back of the grid start for the Valencia finale.

“Anyway, I am already f**ked [about] last year! Unfortunately, it won't change the situation,” Rossi laughed.

While Lorenzo went on to claim pole position for Sunday's race, Rossi qualified in fifth place, albeit just 0.272s slower.

“Top five is not so bad. I can do better because it is slow close, but anyway I'm happy because from the second row if you have good pace you can have a good race,” Rossi said.

“But like during practice a lot of riders have a good pace, so will be hard. But I think today Marquez demonstrated that he is a little bit faster. He has a better pace. So if I look just at FP4 he is the faster, but also Lorenzo for sure and I hope me, Vinales, the Ducatis so it will be interesting.”

Reflecting on the surprise early announcement of his new two-year Yamaha deal, the Italian star added: “I spoke with Yamaha after the test. They said they are very happy if I continue. In my mind I want to continue. The contract was more-or-less ready and so we said 'why wait!'”

Rossi, who won last year's Qatar race and went on to lead the points until the final round in Valencia, said he is 90% certain it will be his last MotoGP contract.

While Rossi - who believes Marquez assisted Lorenzo last year - says his relationship with the Honda rider will never be the same, The Doctor had claimed there would be no problem continuing to work with Lorenzo to improve the Yamaha.

Rossi is playing the "poor me" to get sympathy again.

Not so imo. He is blaming external factors to cover up the fact that although creditably competitive at age 36 he simply wasn't fast enough late season to win a title which it would seem in his own mind he had already added to his existing tally.

Already Rossi has mentioned that he got a point in Misano but Lorenzo didn't get one yesterday. For one, it was a different situation and two, it wasn't during qualifying whilst Rossi was on a fast lap.
The man is a proper dirtbag and no mistake, he's already trying dirty tricks to help him get the title he so craves. Gollum mkII...

Marquez said his last lap that didn't count was a 1.54.2. How in the hell do you miss getting that extra lap. sometimes I wonder if those clowns are qualified to run a top notch GP team

Because time was up just before he crossed the line.

And he did exactly the same thing as he did at PI 2011.
DID NOT BACK OFF AFTER TAKING THE CHEQUERED FLAG!!!
Where the .... is race direction? Why has he firstly not learned a fcuking thing after nearly killing someone and losing his own sight.
I've said it before and will say it again MM is fcuking dangerouse and it is only a matter of time before another unavoidable accident takes place.

Little spanish ....

We've not even had the first ....... race yet and Rossi is throwing his toys out. I've got a lot of respect for Rossi as a motorcycle racer based on what he has achieved(yes he had advantages blah blah but I can name several other world champions who benefitted from such things too) but he's gone from the top bloke in the 2000's to an absolute diva in the 2010's. Seriously any Rossi fan who calls Stoner a moaner, Max a cry baby and Jorge a sulk can go take a running jump because he's surpassed all three in these last 6 months alone!

Just came out during warm-ups that Casey Stoner may be riding in place of Petrucci at Pramac till he comes back from injury.

First race we'd see Casey riding if it happens would be Argentina.
