MotoGP: 2016 Round 1 - Qatar (SPOILERS)

I think Rossi made a mistake with the hard front and medium rear. He's pretty much trying to mimic his 2015 strategy of trying to wait for everyone else's tires to wear out and then make his move. Only it never materialized. Ambient temperature drop probably didn't do any favors for the medium rear.

Great victory for Lorenzo, I was unsure if he could pull it out with how strong both Ducati's looked early on, but going soft/soft was a mistake. Plus thanks to Iannone for crashing as usual.

3 laps to go lorenzo drops a 1.54.

Dominant.

I thought the same thing. He's a machine. I think we can also dispense with the "Lorenzo and Michelin won't get along" myth. The tires proved to be more than up to the task. Early race pace capable tire 18 laps into the event. Michelin have done a great job adjusting since their first outing last year.

This is an ominous start to the season. JL looks to be on form and confident. Iannone had an opportunity and blew it. I'm glad to see Dovi ride a mature race to 2nd.

But not surprising. Their hero couldn't keep up....again. Therefore the winner must be vilified. Unfortunately for the Yellow Army, none of these guys are intimidated. Rossi is simply going to have to find speed or pray for rain.

He isn't going to find the speed.

Rossi basically has to rely on hoping his tire strategy is superior to the rest of the front-runners.

Problem is that now that they've got complete race data, understanding the tires is going to get progressively easier. This was a race where he had to hope to get a better tire strategy than the others, and the hard/medium selection reflected him looking to have success due to a tire advantage. It never materialized so it's only going to get tougher from here on out.

MM rode a fantastic race...at the end when he was trying to get past Dovizioso, in years past he would have probably gone with the battering ram approach, and to his credit while he did attempt the overtake, he did it in such a way it didn't turn into an all-or-nothing proposition. It looks like he has learned finally now about taking the position finish instead of riding beyond the machine's capability and having a DNF. Good on him. That should help immensely with not giving VR free points.

Boos from the crowd toward Lorenzo on podium.

Dissapointing.

That really doesn't seem to faze George at all. In fact he thrives on it. If he's getting .... from Valiban it means he's doing everything right.

And got to agree with JPS. A good result for Marquez on a track that doesn't appear to be his favourite and one that the honda was expected to struggle on. A bit maturity in taking a decent haul of points instead of all or nothing.

How dare Dovisioso impact the championship

He should be given a 1 race ban, made to start from the rear of the grid for all races after than and have to race with a 400kg weight penalty applied to the bike, I mean seriously what did he think he was doing

Will watch the race later

I wouldn't read too much into that given Lorenzo himself admitted to gambling of soft rear tyre as a late call. Now, it's pretty much clear.

Nevertheless, it was a good result for the championship because others have to do a lot to catch up with him in the upcoming races. Let's hope for a great season ahead :)

Haven't seen the race yet, but no-one has answered the most important question. How did Marquez contrive a win for Lorenzo in this race?. I am assuming this must have happened given the reports of Lorenzo being booed on the podium.

And demonstrated that his smooth and superior machine control enabled it to last until the end of the race, keeping him way ahead of a Ducati with a 15 kph advantage....I WOULD!!!!! [emoji1][emoji1][emoji1]

Even Lin Jarvis tapped Jorge on the shoulders and greeted him with a big .... eating grin. Things just haven't gone right for Vale today have they? He stropped off into the distance to bury his head in Uccio's waiting shoulder.

Sure, it wasn't a good as Philip Island last year, but considering so much was new, the tension mounted for me as the laps quickly counted down. I think Jorge rode a masterclass performance, Marquey showed a more measured approach to his race strategy and Rossi just hung on to the leading pack hoping for a Bradbury moment to capitalize on.

My interpretation of the "zipped mouth" gesture by Jorge is to suggest that because he is the quickest rider at the moment he has (discussed) more options available and therefore more to think about in terms of possible rider contracts for 2016 and beyond. I could be totally wrong in that interpretation though.

Halighlujah the new season is underway!

Biggest source of tension was in not having any idea with how the Michelin tires were going to wear down. The bikes really started moving around a bit as the grip went down but right now this favors Lorenzo immensely as he's the only one who can be smooth and fast. I still expect to see tire alterations as the season progresses unfortunately.

I liked how Dovi put up a good fight against Marc. He rode a good race, Ianone is quicker but it doesn't matter if he doesn't finish. This is 3 dnfs in a row for 29.
