Moto 2

Sounds impressive, 1 second off the pace, for a so so rider on a brand new bike, with the CBR engine still in SS configuration which might have around 20hp less than the Moto2 final CBR engine.

Seems these Moto2 things are gonna be fast. I think a tyre war here would make them quicker than MotoGP!

91 Riders enter Moto2 for 2010

get back into motogo man....

Kenny Roberts has submitted an application to field a Moto2 team in next year's World Championship, the three-time World Champion confirmed this morning.

Roberts, who last fielded a MotoGP team in 2007, says the new 600cc four-stroke class may be the perfect place for his team to be.

"We're still working on sponsorship stuff," Roberts said, prior to heading out the door for a round of golf with World Superbike Championship leader Noriyuki Haga. "But we thought we'd get an entry in. It really should be a better class to bring up young Americans in. You have the motors and you get to build the bikes, which is what we've always done. If we don't get the big thing [sponsorship for a return to MotoGP], it may be possible to do that and get some Americans over there racing."

The sponsorship package that Roberts is seeking involves a Las Vegas casino and its projected involvement with a motorsports project that would involve more than just motorcycles.

Some 47 teams applied for Moto2 entries with the application period closing on Friday at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello. A provisional entry list is expected to be released at the next round of the MotoGP World Championship in Spain on June 14.

That's great, it sounds like it's going to be a good series.

no - it was after Faster.

If I recall...... it was a film about a (fictional) racer and they were going to use the KR set-up as their backdrop.

Dare say his abscence from the paddock has screwed that up like

Pretty sure Jumkie did a thread on KR - and their sponsorship woes -
a while ago and I replied something to those lines......

I'm going off to investigate......

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>bloody hell that took some reading.

i duno if anyone reads 'Racer' magazine but there's an interesting article about team KR this month.

it seem KR & KRJR (goodgrief) are going to film stars - they've got a sponsor in the shape of a movie producer who are using moto gp as a 'back-drop' for the movie - in brief it's some much needed $$ for the pot.

Back to the thread - I think we can write-off recent history due to the fact the GSV-R he rode was utter ..... and Suzuki seemed to have little interest in making it any better and the KTM fiasco but I'm pleased the see KRJR silencing the likes of Doohan who basically implied that "kenny's heart isn't in racing anymore" - that may have been true when he was coming home 15/16th race after race, but for now - it clearly is.

blah.....blah.....blah.......

OK what about this...
1980 he was in a movie called "Take it to the limit"

and in 2007 he was in

"Legacey: A personal history of Barry Sheene"

I don't know about the first one but the second one is probably more of a documentry.

What did you come up with Baldy?

I actually spoke with KRJR this last weekend at Miller. He was in Suzuki rider Kagayama's garage who had ice on his foot and looked like a freight train had ran him over.)

Ok, I was gonna post this story in the MILLER 09 Thread, but I might as well post it here:

During the pitwalk, I got lucky to be standing in front of Kagayama's garage when KRJR emerged talking with Yukio. He was also talking with some lady and after that he came out to the pitlane. I said hello and I asked him for a picture. He seemed very relaxed, not in a hurry to get somewhere. I told him it was nice to see him "at a WSBK event for a change". He said he loves "superbikes" and added that the racing is really good. "Yup, that's why I'm here, and perfect weather to boot, I said". He asked me where I was from and I told him Cali. So of course, taking advantage of the moment, I asked him if we might be seeing him "on a bike any time soon"? He chuckled and said, "no way, I'm tired of feeling like him when I wake up in the morning." (and pointed to Kagayama's foot on ice). "Ah, I see, I wouldn't blame you", I replied. "But we have some things we are working on. You know, we are always trying to do something with motorcycles". "Yeah, I know, I wish I could afford one of your 'KR Tuned' exhaust pipes, any chance of getting a discount?" He laughs; "You should ask my dad." "Yeah, I will..." (as if it were a real invitation to talk to The King.) Anyway, so I ask him; "what about GP, perhaps now with the cost cutting stuff maybe you guys can have another go?" "We are always thinking about getting into GP, we wanted to with Ducati, but who knows." he replied. By this time others notice who he is and start asking for autographs and pictures and screwing up my conversation. "Well, we need more Americans on the world stage in whatever; GP or WSBK, so we need your family back in it," I said as he started to sign an autograph with some other fan. "Yeah, well see" he said.

Fck, I totally forgot about asking him about Moto2! But you know I would have asked straight out if I had remembered.

Here is KRJR in Yukio's garage. It seems he still has ties to Suzuki. (Check out the flip-flops, is he chilling or what...)

Is it me or does Kagayama look like an old hag (related to Yoko Ono perhaps)

Moto2's a pretty good fit for them. None of the huge costs or headaches with obtaining worthwhile engines etc. associated with motoGP and flexibility to focus on chassis development. I'd love to see KR and similar sorts of outfits back in GP (maybe hayate's success would be a small help in that area) but it's just so hard to be successful there without a huge budget and competent factory backing.

Ok, flame suit on.

Whilst I never felt that KRSR's teams achieved that much in MotoGP (certainly one or two good results but I look wider than that) I have no doubts that it wasn't through lack of engineering skill or desire on behalf of KR, but all about the mighty dollar and as such he just lacked in that area.

To me Moto2 is shaping as a possible entry level for many to return to the racing and I fully support someone like KRSR getting back into it as he has a huge amount to offer and hopefully Moto2 costs will be significantly less and allow him to remain.

That said, I am going to miss the two-smokes.

I think moto2 suits team KR perfectly. The one thing they always struggled with was engines. They never really had enough money to develop there own enough to compete with the big boys so had to rely on hondas out of date crap and we all know about the KTM saga. The one thing i think team kr did very well was building chassis. So this series with control engines is perfect. I cant wait to see them back.
