Mamola

? I would have thought it would be satisfying as a rossi fan to have a stoner/ducati fan commentating when stoner was being outridden as was the case at laguna seca last year.

To be honest I'd rather the commentators didnae favour anyone at all.

But thats just me . It's no gonnae happen.

The guy's been punted now anyways, so it's all good.

Pete

i remember mamola saying very nice things about rossi , while he was doing his corkscrew kissing etc.. after the race finished..

Sure, never going to happen, a good commentator for me needs to have a passion for the sport and balancing this with being completely unbiased would seem difficult to achieve, in this plane of existence anyway, not that bias is a necessary prerequisite for making favourable comments about valentino rossi.

My point was that whilst valentino does attract peurile comments in the blogosphere/internet forums he gets less negative press in the media in general than St Francis of Assisi. I wouldn't even say this is unjustified, but for we minority fans the occasional show of interest in other riders by odd members of the commentariat is not unwelcome

Good post

I think Moody and Ryder maintain that balance, although unashamedly admit their bias for Brit riders.
In the case of Valentino, as they always remind us, having the luxury of commentating on the greatest rider of all time for the entire duration of his career, they simply ran out superlatives years ago.

I can't see anyone, apart from the most frothingly adulate 46 fanboi, reading anything malevolent or unfair into Mamola's comments. Randy has a long history with Ducati and is still piloting the two seater, so it's only natural that he talks about the team a little more than average. The notion that his opinions are biased is sad/absurd; he gives everyone, even loathsome Peddles, fair treatment.

You want bias? Listen to Jack Burnicle, the Eurosport WSB ........ I swear the twit orgasms every time he gets to say "Troy," or whenever "The Little Roman Emperor" has problems. I'll take SpeedTV WSB coverage, boring as it may be, over ES any day.

Ah, you really were able to capture the essence of Pete.

Good point Geo, lets see, Uhm, yeah, so Mamola who gets access and a paycheck from Ducati is talking them up a little bit. Ok, I can see that. On top of that, look who he was talking about? Stoner, who was dispatching old laptimes like the US Gov bails out banks. Geez, so Mamola praises Casey (or as Pete would say, sucks Casey's ....) because he's impressively crushing the track! Uhm, somebody remind me what commentators do when "commenting" on rider's performance please.

Hahaha, Pete, I'm getting you back for Hopper.

Aww, I think I hurt someones feelings......

Sorry, I didn't mean to slag of the wonderful Mr Mamola. I was only joking, his honest unbiased reporting is why I watch Eurosport. And If he has links to a team, then you are right, he should quite rightly publicise them. But you have to remember, Valentino is like Zac Efron on a motorbike, so I have to luv him!!!!!!!

I'm sorry I'm just a 14 year old girl who likes yellow, what would i know about anything.

I'm off to pick flowers and give them to a puppy.

Pete

O-I-C

You can spew your highly opinionated drivel all day, but if someone responds in kind, they are accused of getting all emotional. Please let us know when you grow up and tire of these silly games.

Mamola as much as I respect the guy is all over Casey like a dirty whore all over a crack pipe. I wouldn’t call him unbiased he just likes Casey\Ducati more
<
.
I enjoy watching\listening to Mamola though, he knows what hes talking about unlike the other two jokers on eurosport and the other bunch of muppets on the beeb

I don't think we have ever had mamola on any of the coverage over here so he may well be a lousy commentator for all I know; I too quite liked him when he was racing though.

The commentatator I have always liked is julian ryder and whomever he has been with;has he always been with toby moody? In the earlier days of the superbike coverage here he was very entertaining. I am underwhelmed by nick harris and the monotonic aussie guy on the motogp coverage here recently. I quite approve of suzy perry in general but am not in a position to have an informed opinion about her commentary skills.

A good commentator is NOT an unbiased observer BP... A good commentator creates an atmosphere of controversy and discussion... The greatest "presenter"/"commentator" of sports in north america was the eternally outspoken and controversial icon Howard Cosell. Love him or hate him, you couldn't ignore him... you must have someone like that in the history of footy over there, no. Think about it... if you wanted and automaton presenting any .... head off the six o'clock news would do.

Well, Randy Mamola gave my friend a ride in Marlboro X2 Sentul in Indonesia last year. My friend almost shitting in his pants that time!

Mamola was the best thing about Eurosport's commentary the past couple of years because he is probably the fairest and most unbiased commentator in motorsport. Just because he doesn't kiss Vale's arse like Parrish, Cox and Moody it doesn't mean he's crap, it just means that you're a biast Rossi fan which seems to be the norm with British motorcycle racing fans in Britain nowerdays.

I will greatly miss Randy and I will have my fingers crossed that Eurosport sign him up for 2010 and even replace Moody with Keith Heuwen to make the ultimate commentary team of Heuwen, Ryder and Mamola.
