It looks like the old marc is back. Hell, he somehow got the odd win on a full pos honda, then it must be possible with a gp23 too. Cota and Sachsenring was jinxed so i go for aragon and hopefully we see a wet race or too this year aswell. Motegi/PI perhaps

Interesting times in practice. I'm rooting for Marc, but for selfish reasons. I predicted he would win a couple of races this season. Nice to see the Aprilia's at the front, too.

However, Marc said the conditions were quite unusual. The surface was slippery, and he's convinced the pace will equalize as the track rubbers in. Hoping for an interesting race weekend, but the track conditions will need to remain slippery to shake things up, imo.

MM was blistering in FP2. It feels like with the exception of Silverstone, that contact he made with Frankie at the Sachsenring seemed to wake him up a bit out of perhaps some tentativeness with the bike. I recognize track conditions were what they were and things will be different tomorrow just as they will be on Sunday, but his speed in low grip conditions still remains better than anyone else on the grid in my opinion. Him taking that final corner was mental with the bike just sliding even with all of the aero downforce.

That said, I have no concerns about Pecco finding the setup he needs to be competitive. JM had to really dig deep for some lap times today and really was overriding the bike at a number of points during the session. The VR46 boys never looked comfortable once the pace started increasing.

I think the sprint and main event will be quite interesting if nothing else. I'm still expecting Pecco to find his way to the front even if today wasn't as ideal in results as he probably was expecting. JM did mention he's not focused on beating MM, so it sounds like he is probably going to ride to position depending on how things unfold, or at least ahead of Pecco if nothing else.

Zarco did well today, very nice to see a Honda finally get some TV screen time for something other than pity.

Kudos to the Trackhouse boys for both rounding out Q2.

Q1 is going to be an absolute slugfest I think.

Hopefully we've also seen the first signs of the HRC revival.
As I remember, Zarco is on the older spec of the engine that has the power to match the others, but is harder to ride.

The other 3 riders are riding an early version of a new engine that is more user friendly, but is down on power on the first iterations.

Unclear if Zarco has gotten an updated spec this week; solid job nonetheless.

No KTM's thru to Q2

I went to the bottom of the timing sheet to see who was first on a Japanese bike then I realised that Zarco wasn't there. Go Zarco!!!

There has been speculation he might have upgrades now he is not really a threat to a factory rider winning the title.

As has been said, this is a problem with only one manufacturer being so dominant, they only have to worry about satellite team riders and not other manufacturers.

Quite possibly just an anti-clockwise circuit and slippery new tarmac. Marc has always been able to have both ends of the bike moving, particularly the front.
I expect the grip will improve with more rubber and the 24s will still be very hard to beat.

I am starting to wonder if there is something fundamentally wrong with the design of this year's KTM RC16, meaning that the opportunity for in-year development is limited. Only wondering.

I think it’s more of them not yet getting the balance right with the carbon chassis (which explains all the front end washouts). But the development ceiling for it probably is a lot higher than the steel frame, which could be why they’re sticking with it and weathering the short term pain IMO

The Yamaha’s got a new fairing and swing arm winglets (Swinglets?) this week. Probably tested and validated last week in Misano.

Good point. I think that is possibly KTM's chance to eventually dominate, if they learn how to make carbon chassis' work and are ahead of the curve. If that happens, will there be a rush on hiring KTM engineers?

Any shark teeth? :)

I will be tuning out of the forum temporarily, as being far too busy for words won't see qualifying until this evening.

Strange qualifying where the grid positions don’t really tell the full story.

- Savage mastery of the conditions by M. Marquez. Clear favorite to do the double this weekend
- Acosta seems to be finding his footing again which is great to see. The shark attack has been delayed, but not canceled outright
- Damage limitation from Martin and Bagnaia. The latter doesn’t look to be on threatening form this weekend, but it’s still his championship to lose
- Aprilias flatter to deceive. Again.
- Somebody please give Zarco an award for taking a blunt knife to a gunfight and winning

Marc will 100% either win or crash this weekend. That's a certainty at this point.
