Estoril RACE Thread

Race thoughts:

Lorenzo could be leading the points had it not been for few costly mistakes this season. It should be very clear to all of us why Rossi has been so vocal about wanting him booted off as a teammate

Stoner was amazing, and didn't waste any time reminding Pedrosa and Rossi that he was back. Props to him, but we all know he will not silence his critics...ever.

Pedrosa, that launch control is a joke, does it really matter where he quals? Anyway, he had a good enough race but Dovi's #4 is in serious danger.

Rossi can't win them all, but what I find most amusing is that excuses have been hard to come by this time around. We can't blame his bike since his teammate has 'nearly' the same thing, or the tires, or superiority of the other bikes, Casey's TC, etc., so it seems its time to throw Jeremy Burgess under the bus, 'obviously it was his crew chief's fault. Rossi can never lose on his own, and others cannot win on their merit, we can always find a reason thanks to the Mindless. At least it was good to see the Faithful (not to be confused with the Mindless) giving props and credit where due and admitting the man can be beat straight up sometime. I feel like this thread has been a bit anemic actually, I expected many more post since we had such a long wait. Geez, its not like the world ended, the man came in a respectable 4th.

Having said that, being a Hayden fan, I would gladly trade Rossi's respectable 4th for Nicky's pittyful 8th. It looked like he was making progress then Casey comes back and blows everybody on a Ducati away. If it frustrating for me, I can only imagine what it must be like for Hayden. BTW, thanks to Krashio's gravel surfing, at least he was the 2nd Ducati, eh Migs (you can come back now, it looks like Nicky is struggling).

Side note, I'm glad nobody was near Kallio when he took himself out. I'm sure he's disappointed too being that he didn't have anybody to break his fall as usual.

Was that really necessary?

Great summary - agree wholeheartedly, apart form maybe the Kallio bit!

There's not much to say. The race was sooo boring, I started falling asleep.
Lorenzo has a shot to win at AUS and MAL races. Apparently, he's back training with his father.

It's too bad the actual racing probably won't offer up anything. At least we have SBK!

VAL should be epic for the championship. (despite the fact I've heard it'll be without Jumkie

Silly season 2010 is already having some affect. Spanisih sites are even reporting he an Jerry will continue for 4 years and even visited the Ducati factory before Estoril. This .... is gonna get wild.

Nicky looked like ..... No way around it. If he's not top 5 at PI, he's gonna have alot of explaining to do. I seriously would'nt be surprised if Ducati fired him and brought in Pasini. There's just not enough testing time available (unless he's the type to secretly slip on Vitto's G leathers and ride Mugello/Imola until he dies or learns how to ride the bike).

FYI, he didn't have the fancy Stoner cowl. Maybe that cost him

If Lorenzo wins all the next races and Valentino gets all 2nd places.... will Lorenzo still win the championship? I ask this because I want to know that the race is actually in Lorenzo's hand and not for him to pray that Rossi has to finish a certain position or DNF.

I don't care what anyone else says... Lorenzo is deffinately getting under Rossi's skin. Rossi's mind games ain't working with Lorenzo, and now he's starting to panick.

And oh yeah, Kentucky Kid looked like a fried chicken.... he will get the axe soon.

no. rossi has 18 markers on lorenzo with 75 up for grabs. if jorge wins all 3 rounds & rossi finishs 2 all 3 times thats only 15. val would have finnish 4th or lower in 1 race.

Lorenzo needs to gap Rossi by 6 points per race to win the championship. Even if JL wins everyrace, and VR finishes second, the title is VR's by 3 points. If they are tied on points, JL could win with a race victory countback.

What part of what Jumkie said about Killio do you disagree with? The part about Killio finishing ahead of Hayden or that Mika took himself out?

I am sure he is disappointed that he has no one to blame for this one. But I bet if anyone could speak caveman they could hear him passing blame on to someone.

because jorge rode a better race than rossi?

na i think rossi and co will get there head down for the next few and work harder.

they share data so wont really matter if the wall is there or not....

maybe sharing data works at some tracks but not others who knows.

and i didnt say rossi didnt win cos of the engine, everyone has a bad weekend now and again.

rossi was off the pace all weekend

Lighten up dude. I wasn't replying to anything you said. I would say it was pretty
obvious that Rossi's results were due to set-up issues or a bad tire. He did appear
to be down on power, and my comment on that could hardly be considered a slight
against Rossi's ability as a rider. I was just as disappointed by the lack of dueling
between Rossi and Lorenzo - as the next guy.

Nick Harris said duing the commentary that Rossi was not his usual chirpy self right from when he got there at Estoril, ( ie. before he even got on the bike ), so I assume there must have been some other issues other than bike problems?

Yah... could be he was just feeling depressed and bored. Hmmm ... nope, 'cause as any Rossifan
will tell you, Vale is too manly for stuff like that. Or it could be his chirplessness was simply a result
of knowing that (for whatever reason) he knew his bike was just not going to run well at Estoril.
Personally, I think he's love-sick for Mrs. Stoner.

This might be a shocker coming from a Dani supporter, but I think that Ducati should stick with Hayden for a couple of more seasons. He's taking a lot of crap for the less-than-stellar results he's had this season, but I reckon his hardwork and patience is bound to pay off soon.
