According to autosport news C. Edward to stay in MotoGp and not going back to AMA superbike series.

Colin Edwards says he has shelved his plans to return to America to race in the AMA Superbike series after this season.

He has been encouraged by a strong start to the season with the Tech 3 Yamaha and admits he is revitalised and enjoying racing again.

"There was talk about maybe going back to the AMA, but it's difficult to come here and think about that with the bike working as well as it is and Michelin putting in such a big effort," he said ahead of this weekend's race at Shanghai.

"Everything just seems to be gelling this year and it's going well. I feel really good on the bike. I'm revitalised and I can't see me getting to this point and saying 'alright, see y'all later, I'm going back to the states'. I definitely want to stick around for a while."

Edwards is also looking forward to racing the pneumatic valve engine, which Yamaha introduced last time out at Estoril, on the long straights of Shanghai.

"I'm glad we've got it here for the long straights," he said. "I think I would have cancelled my ticket and stayed at home if we didn't have it for this one!

"Shanghai isn't my favourite track but I just happen to go pretty well here and the new engine has run really well. I'm excited about it and looking forward to the weekend."

I saw this too, its good news to hear Colin so motivated as he would be a waste of space if he spent the year wishing he was at home. I don't know if this attitude will last though, his results could go either way and a lot could change so i'll wait for him to be signed before i get used to the idea of him sticking around.

I wonder if the Daytona Group's announcement about changing the superbike class to 600s had anything to do with this?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I WONDER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Casualty 1 of the dumbest idea ever introduced into motorsports.

Anyway, glad to hear Colin is doing well and having fun.

He has obviously gotten wind that AMA is going to turn into a spec series where the rules will be bent to allow the Hardley Movenson and Buell to compete.I doubt he wants any part of that

I'm glad he's staying. He's a down to earth, nice guy. MotoGp needs personalities. He might even get a podium or two this year.

It's good he is motivated, honestly I thought his going to the AMA was a bad idea. I would have rather seen him go back to WSBK and race his old pal Bayliss.

He'd hardly be racing Bayliss next year as Bayliss won't be there.

Maybe Bayliss will wrap up the championship early and come win some more GPs this year as a wildcard

Good to see if Bayliss can ride Melandry bike....and oh ya I think Biaggi is taking Bayliss spot next year in WSBK

I hope he stays. I am glad the brits have somebody to pull for in Toseland but I think Edwards is the best thing to happen to Tech 3. He had years of experience developing these types of bikes and is probably won of the more respected Michilen guys on the paddock. He is a team player and you seldom here a negative word from him. He can only help propel Toseland and Tech 3.

He is from the old gaurd as the new 250 guys take over this class but I hope he gets in one more year and a few podeums.

Trust me to be the negative one but IMO really it is well beyond time that CE left MGP and I say that while agreeing with those saying what a top bloke he is.

Really, he has had tremendous opportunity and returned so little in terms of results (bet that comes back and bites).

It isn't that long ago now where people were saying that Barros, Checa etc should go because they are old etc, but they are proven race winners whilst CE is yet to get there (and only been close extremely rare).

To retain a place in MGP should not be based on 'is he a good bloke' but based on 'can he win races and/or the championship' and most don't talk of CE in either terms. Certainly many 'hope' he can 'pick up a win before he goes', which is a totally different statement to expecting him to win as we do with CS, VR, JL, DP etc.

Nah, IMO Colin should see out this year and fade out to retirement.

I'd prefer to see Edwards back in WSBK on the factory Honda

With Bayliss retiring with another championship this season, Edwards can go back and be World Champion again.

Perhaps he is a better superbike rider than motoGP though he has been riding well this year..

Yesterday's race confirmed my thoughts on CEII. A great rider who just isn't suited to and can't really get it done in MotoGP.

Hopefully he'll go back to WSBK and win another couple of championships on the factory Honda.

Having said that, he's still a far better rider than many in MotoGP and considering his superbike background he has outperformed many who have had a much better opportunity entering MotoGP than Edwards.

Yamaha still needs him to develop the bike..the young kid still inexperience to give feed backs. Tech3 is much much better than last year

yeah I agree with all of you who say edwards should go. he made a lot of mistakes last weekend for someone who has as much experience with racing as he has. he never got the good results he was fighting for. he probably is a nice guy, thats why someone should prevend him from becoming the next KRJR, with the only difference that CE is without any good results...

i think edwards was ruined when he entered motogp. everybody thought honda would give him a ride because he had given them world championships but instead they snubbed him which relegated him to the non competitive aprillia cube. imo that time was enough to bring him off the boil.
