what a boring race, why was everyone so rubbish? except Rossi, Rossi and stoners pace was so a different race to everyone else. im not even going to give Elias props cos his pace was over a second off the leaders, and michelin-what a disgrace, looks like its going down the F1 road with a 1 brand tyre unless michelin pull their socks up.
i think Rossi will win at least half of the remaining races, especially after he gets his updates in this upcoming test, looking forward to rest of season, hopefully lorenzo and the pedrobot will get back to the leaders pace and we can see a good four way
<

It was so bad i was missing Nicky up there at least he tries 110%... Pedrosa and Lorenzo need to get it together they are the only boys that have shown they are capable of hanging at the front.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (gsfan @ Aug 18 2008, 02:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>You can't really congratulate Rossi on an uncontested win. True, Stoner binned it and for whatever reason he did it himself. Rossi was behind and even though he claims he was catching Stoner we'll never know. Really, if it wasn't for Capper getting on the box the race was not worth waiting a month for at all. The real race was behind Rossi and Suzuki had a fantastic weekend. Both team riders in the top 6 outmatching any other team. I look forward to the test to see what the '09 Gs looks like.

I felt bad for Hopper falling behind and suspected it was fitness. He surely has a bright second half coming if he can get up to speed.

Dani whinging about the tires is fun to listen to. I remember the old days when Michelin was unbeatable and it falls on deaf ears I'll tell you.

Rossi is in a very good position as far as the championship goes. I don't think the season is done yet.

I think this race gets the award for the worst commentary and the worst video editing ever in motogp. It was just horrible! So many stupid shots that weren't about the race whatsoever. The announcers seemed to be desperate to make a boring race look exciting. Well, anyone can wipeout and it happened but to BS the drama thing. It was a wipeout and the next race is coming. The biggest story was the repaved track really. The tires really decided this race outcome as Elias or Capper would never have made the podium with a normal Michelin/Honda challenge. See, that is honesty Rossi fanboysl

Amazing. Did you see the race? The timing showed that Rossi was catching Stoner. Was it a forced error? I dunno and niether do you. But it happened.

How can you seriously say that you can't congratulate someone for an uncontested win? That statement beggars belief. So when Stoner was running away with the title last year you couldn't congratulate him? His title was hollow because he won so many races by so much? The bottom line is that Rossi was running with Stoner, way faster than the others, and one of them crashed. Last year when Stoner was running away even the most die hard Rossi fans gave the guy the respect for the job he did. Not liking the result and ignoring the facts are two different things. I think you found the race boring because you have a problem with Vale. There was plenty going on down the pack, the big bikes are not known for 125 style racing so at least try and remember that.

Nice little dig at Rossi fans at the end, shows exactly how you feel about things.

Stoner says "my mistake."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Obviously we are all disappointed with this result because our pace in practice was good, everything went very well this morning and we felt we could push out in front. Things were going according to plan until the crash. I was doing the same lap time over and over and I was quite happy with the pace I was running. The crash came out of the blue, that corner was an easy one but I lost the front and it happened very quickly, very suddenly and I didn't manage to save it. It´s a hard one to explain and we will look at the data but sometimes this kind of crash happens at this level of racing and it was my mistake! We knew that we needed to win this race - and more - in order to close down Valentino´s advantage so this makes the championship very difficult for us. Anything can happen in racing but fifty points is a big gap against such a strong and consistent competitor. Anyway I never throw in the towel, nor does anybody at Ducati, and we will keep fighting until the end.

Rossi's comments:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>I was confident today because my bike was fast from Friday practice, and with Jeremy we made a small modification to the front after warm-up to allow me to be a bit faster in some sections, and it worked very well. I lost about half a second getting past Hopkins at the start and Casey was incredibly fast at that stage, like he´d already done ten laps! For a short time I was worried but then, after two laps, I understood that my bike was working very well and that I was fast enough to try to catch him. I had closed a little bit already and gradually the red bike was becoming a bit bigger in front of me, and I think this is when he started to push harder and made his mistake. I was anticipating a very hard battle if I did catch him, so when I saw the red bike slide out I could hardly believe it – this made things a lot easier for me! After that I just enjoyed riding my bike; my Bridgestone tyres worked very well until the end and my M1 felt very good. Of course I can't count this as a complete victory because Casey fell, and I am sorry for him, but this is racing and I have to be happy with this result. We are 50 points clear which is a lot and I am very excited to be going to Misano in this situation. However we know that 50 points is still not always enough when you have someone as strong as Casey and so we won´t relax. Now we have two days of testing and we will try some new electronics in order to help me open the throttle earlier and also, of course, test some Bridgestone tyres.

You frothing Rossi suckups don't give a damn about racing, all you want is to see your hero on the top step.

I have a question for those that bash Casey, Max, and anyone else who has beaten your alter ego. If Rossi's foes are all so 'undeserving' and 'crap,' what does that make Rossi? "The guy who beat a bunch of hacks?" Suddenly your God doesn't seem so special after all, eh?

And WTF is with:

"We won!" (Are you part of the team?)
"My Vale" (Graziano, is dat you?)

Frankly, it scares me that people identify so strongly with someone they don't know is any real sense, and possibly haven't even met. What kind of sick relationship do you have with the guy?

Feh....

I am the nth number of person to reply; at least you know you have the right bait.

Of course congratulations to Valentino, he is the greatest however that race was nowhere near as exciting as Laguna. This was not Vales fault but the real excitement was Toni Elias carving through the rest of the field.

The rest of the field cannot get too much praise however - they have to pull their collective fingers out and catch Stoner and Rossi or every time one of these two is sick, crashes or has a bad day racing goes out the window. At the start of the year Jorge and Dani were there but Michelin is currently beyond sublime and probably past ridiculous as well. Michelin will only have Michelin to blame next year when it’s the “Bridgestone Cup”.

I was initially disappointed with Vale for dumping his tyre company of such long standing but now I just think he was totally on the ball.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (SuperShinya56 @ Aug 18 2008, 11:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>blah blah blah blah...... he choked, end of story. Even Rossi himself said Casey succumbed to the 'pressure'. But hey look at it this way, at least Valentino actually has someone to compete with who can push him.

In the interview I read Valentino stated he would not have caught Stoner, the gap was closing but there are two considerations.

I hypothesise that Casey who was only doing short stints in all the FP/QP and warm up just ran out of puff with his illness. He just set and reset the lap record in the previous laps however.

Valentino was catching but it is Casey's method (as boring as it is) to get ahead and respond with fast laps when the following riders challenge with them thus maintaining a lead. He also was on the absolute hardest tyre Bridgestone has and lap 9 with a bit of juice in the tank may have been a little early for those speeds, his set up was for speed at the end of the race. He still did the fastest two laps and was capable of responding.

You often see Casey just wind off successive real fast laps in the third quarter of a race and just get away from everyone then cruise in at the end.

On Channel 10 Daryl Beatie watched the crash and gave an explanation about braking and the suspension unloading at a crap time just washing the front away. I don’t think that one unfinished race since the beginning of the 2007 season proves any theory about him choking. Since the beginning of 2007 he is one of the least crashed out riders out there.

Casey is not going to win the championship at this time however he can deny the “complete” victory to Vale by winning more races than him (Vale relied on this position in 2006 when he won the most races and lost the championship).

If Casey wraps himself up in this goal he can give us some good racing.

nice reply curve. seriously. couldn't agree more. congrats to vale though.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bikergirl @ Aug 17 2008, 04:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Not what I expected. But then again it was hardly realistic to expect another Laguna.
Well done to Vale, who can hardly be blamed for producing a boring race, if boring it was. What'd you expect him to do? Hang back and wait for the others to catch up for your entertainment??? It was nice to see him back in winning form at the track where he won his first GP.
I was gutted for Casey when he fell. I don't know it was pressure from Rossi, the softer tyre or just sheer bad luck, and I don't even really much care. I'd have liked to see a duel at the end and given that Casey was running a softer tyre I think it's quite realistic to think it might have been possible that Vale would have closed off the distance before the end of the race.
I was pleased for Marco, surprised (to say the least) by West....and perplexed by Nakano. It was also great to see that old dog Loris back on the podium...seems his renewal for next year is pretty much in the bag, and he can still teach those young puppies a trick or two.

Indeed....Toni always pulls his finger out when it's contract renewing time.
AND it seems seeing Toni flash by finally lit a fire under the seat of Melandri's pants. To see his ex-team mate climb through the field on a satellite bike must have given him a 'now or never' kick up the backside. Not stellar...but 7th's a good result compared to what we've had all season.

ROFL!!!
<

I'm sure you mean 'malocchio'...

Yes. Livio Suppo confirmed this too in his post race interview.

Melandri was interviewed post-race. He said his options for next year are Kawa or back to Gresini it seems.

They got rid of D'Antin and put Suppo on the job.

Since you are obviously not well informed...it is a Bridgestone policy that all their riders know what everyone else is using. Stoner was just as well aware of Rossi's tyre choice as Rossi was of Stoner's.

It's people like you who make non-Rossi fans hate the guy. How embarrassing. You're just lucky it's late on a Sunday night and I'm too tired to get my 'newbie shredding claws' out....but consider yourself warned.

another good reply. nice to see some level headed posting.
