I love Brad, almost as much as Mdub. But the sad reality is that he's 28 yrs old (older by MotoGP standards) and with Acosta coming up now, I don;t think he will be 1. KTM's priority and 2, be able to beat Acosta and Marquez and Martin over an entire season.

Age is just a number.
As much as I like Acosta, I think it's still important to remember that he is playing with house money at the moment. He is not under any pressure to perform.
Brad had a couple of bad weekends, but he will be back!

Sure, but the reality is in MotoGP, it isn't. No one over the age of 30 has ever won a title in MotoGP (and by that I mean 4 strokes since 2002).

I'm not dissing Brad, I'm one of his biggest fans and would LOVE him to win the title. But at present the odds are not stacked in his favour.

He was first in points last year out of any rider not on a Ducati. He is a victim of the Ducati cup era.

Which us precisely why I clarified in my post, that I was talking about the MotoGP 2002 onwards era. Not 500cc GP.

Fangio won his first F1 title aged 40. Very few F1 drivers even race to that age nowadays.....

So Bez finished higher only because his GP22 was superior to both Binder and his 2023 RC16? Brad needs to show up on Saturday and get his ass on the front 2 rows more than once-in-a-while. He should pay Jack to show him how to get off the line.

The data backs up the age limit discussion;
Year Age of last world championship
2000 27 Kenny Roberts Jr
2006 25 Nicky Hayden
2009 30 Valentino Rossi
2011 26 Casey Stoner
2015 28 Jorge Lorenzo
2019 26 Marc Marquez
2020 23 Joan Mir
2021 22 Fabio Quartararo
2023 26 Francesco Bagnaia
Notes;
1. Valentino Rossi came close to another world championship in 2015 at 36 years old
2. Marc Marquez is 31 years old and we are talking about another world championship, if not this year then next year on a full factory bike
3. We have 4 current world champions on the grid so there's the potential for another world championship at an older age than there current world championship

Brad has nearly double the points Bez has this year on the gp23 so far. So I'd say it was all the bike. Everyone looked better on the gp22. I would call none of them superior until they prove themselves more than one season. So far none of them are doing that. No one who rode the gp22 last year looks nearly as good as they did last year.

If we only had potential world champions on the grid it may be a fairly small field comprised of selected Ducati riders in recent seasons. And if not for a fair amount of serendipity an actual world champion and major talent in Casey Stoner may never have gotten a chance on a competitive bike.

During Brad’s career several well performed moto 2 riders including a moto 2 world champion have not exactly prospered on KTMs. In the presence of the great equaliser, rain, he had been among the best, if not the best. I think it is true that Acosta will be prioritised over him, and probably correctly so, but Acosta looks to be at the minimum a once in a decade talent. We don’t even really know that Bagnaia, Martin and Bastianini would be better than him on a KTM, or if he could have contended with Bagnaia and Martin in the last 2 seasons on a factory Ducati. I would take MM over him of course myself as well, but he is likely an even rarer talent than Acosta. That doesn’t look like happening, but if it did it would probably be best to leave Brad where he is and have Acosta or MM in a Nastro Azzurro type setup at Gasgas.

Bastanini acknowledges potential Aprilia ride, but he hopes to stay with Ducati

Hopefully, he won't step back to Pramac on a factory bike. This era will not last forever.

I agree, if factory Ducati don't want him. I'd prefer he goes to a new manufacturer.

I wonder how hard Joan Mir is knocking on their door right now?

At this point I think Ducati would be foolish to put anyone other than Martin on the factory team. If I ran the team and could do anything, I'd pair Jorge and Marc and send Pecco down to Pramac! Of course Marc deserves a full factory bike and support, hopefully for Ducati he'll accept it at Gresini or Pramac.

I think both Yamaha and Honda are Sure Out of Luck. Nobody wants to take free bikes from Yamaha just so they can run at the back of the pack. Who wants to sponsor a team that's never on TV? Nobody wants to ride those bikes either, so even if they could magically be on par with Ducati tomorrow, it might still take a few years to get top riders to show it, especially since the Yamaha seems to be a Fabio-only machine and Honda is where careers go to die.

They get TV coverage when they crash

So which candidates are in line for Aleix's Aprilia? I'm sure the press are talking about this while having no info from Aprilia
