WSBK/WSS - Miller (round 7) - practice, qualifier, race

Spies crushed them in SP and Hacking made it in the top 8.

Congrats to both. Spies now OWNS the record for qualifying

Its only a matter of time before Kiyo learns to win outside of Britain, it may not be this weekend but its nothing to bet your life against >.>. I was really impressed with his trio of wins last year and had hoped he could get it going now that he is familiar with all the tracks (except imola?). Not a bad quali job and the added hrc pressure must be intense. In honda's eyes he is there best bet to destroy the traitor that it Noriyuki Haga
<
.

I believe ben will win one race, perhaps the double but its not a given. If spies doesn't double up its a real toss up for the other race winner in my mind. Checa and Fabrizio both had great performances here last year and it seems as if none of that has been lost in quali/practice this time around. I am real curious how injured haga is. Teams strategically try to avoid letting the competition know how bad things really are so I bet he is hurting more then they say. But this is the man that can hit a bird at 200mph, lacerate a bicep, and do the double 7 days later so it might not really matter.

Interesting stuff.

I hope Spies won't crash or having mech. prob. Well if lady luck is with him, he can win both race 1 and 2.. Checa won here last year and looking good..

yeah a more than comfortable day at the office..Haslam unlucky race 2 twas a good ride

I'm probably in the minority here but I wouldn't be all that upset to see the US leg of WSBK go away. The race takes place in the middle of nowhere on a dirty dusty track with very little fan support (compared to any European round). The AMA is a complete joke and there is no real passion or support in the US for world class motorcycle racing. The track is rough and far too dusty in places. It's just uninspiring.

Additionally; am I the only one who is put off by those two goons who "commentate" the race for Speed? One guy has no idea who the riders are, the other is some hillbilly who has won a few races once upon a time ( I know that's not entirely true but you get the point). Speed and AMA together spells complete amateur hour. We get the AMA "Pro Primetime" (complete joke) announcers.... They focus needlessly on American riders without regard for their standings or competitiveness. We heard way to much about Zemke and Hacking. Zemke was virtually a non participant and Hacking managed to trade paint with his teammates and go off track three times in race two. Perhaps local coverage is always slanted along nationalistic lines but these two just rubbed me the wrong way.

At the very least, there are better venues in the US for this round. Laguna would be a far better choice.

Flame suit on.......

One thing about WSBK is that they have a damn good camera crew and producer. They stayed on the action almost the while time. They missed Muggeridge's crash but you can't catch everything. If this was the GP crew you could have watched Spies circulating by himself the whole time

Somewhat agree. The track that needs a WSBK race is Barber. With a very slight mod, slightly longer straight, this facility would be perfect for a WSBK race. The grounds are beautiful with groomed grass instead of tumbleweeds and sand,The layout is outstanding and has numerous elevation changes. Not to mention whats considerd the finest Motorcycle Museum in the world on site. Not only that but within 250 miles of Millions and Millions of people and you dont have to party with the Mormons

Apsolutley gutted about Leon in race 2, but he always seems to do that when he's put under pressure or is really trying for something... bloody numpty!

That was my first thought, but it was great to see him having a go at Rea rather than just settling for fourth.

Great ride from Kenan Sofuoglu in WSS too. He's never looked too comfortable when it comes to bashing fairings, but the passes he put on Cal and Norge were great.

I'm not keen on this track, but the US round was always great at Laguna. I'd love to see it back there.

And does anyone know why the TV picture is so crap whenever they show American races??? WSB usually looks great at every other round, but the picture this weekend was so fuzzy you couldn't even make out the numbers on the bikes.
It's not just WSB either, I've noticed it with MotoGP too.

Totally sucked seeing Haslam in the dirt - but he showed some real
grit trying that hard against Rea - their bikes being pretty much
a match in power and handling.

Sure hope Haga is back to speed for the next race. His beat up ... sure was
draggin'. The guy's really a soldier. Gotta admire the hell out of him.

Somewhat agree: Tho I think Miller as a track - is a good layout that allows for
lots of passing. On the whole "tumbleweed" vs golf course esthetic . . . as a
geezer, I actually like that old-school "Amurican' race track feel. I "grew up"
racing at Loudon, Pocono, Summit Point and Road Atlanta and Daytona
and remember going for the first time to Mid-Ohio with it's purdy purdy
manicured lawns and duck ponds and .... and thinking how gay the place
was. Most of the guys I raced with were hillbillies from the south or
their equivalent ....-kickers from the mountainous regions of New England and I always
really like the whole pioneer/cowboy feeling of those places.

Oh . . . and about partying with the Mormons, I think the thing is, you party
in spite of the Mormons! Although - I 'spect they party okay - when the curtains
are drawn, inside their little compounds, with their 6 teenage brides and all.

Nice double by Ben. His performance has helped him immensely in the Championship.

Hacking made himself look foolish this weekend. He had a little get together with Parkes in Race 1 but still managed a great result.

In race 2 he attempted to kill Scassa in an attempt to finish inside the top 10 after being nearly last into turn 1.

P.S. Haslam is single handedly trying to wreck my fantasy season.

That Ben Spies is a bloody marvel, apleasure to watch last night.Big shouts for Rea too, maybe next year Johnny.

I think he may have got some results that were somewhat pleasing as well, ominously missing from your cutting edge analysis.
