Elias was the last satelite rider to win a race in 06 I think it was? Surely we should see satelite riders getting closer to the front as the 800's begin to peak in developement. SO the question stands.

Who is going to break the satelite drought? (if ever)

I don't think it's going to happen this season but I am going to go out on a limb and say that Spies will be the first satelite race winner since Elias. Simoncelli has prospects but I think that he is going to be a very average MOTOGP rider. I haven't really seen the dominence that Jorge and Pedro displayed when they were in the 250's

I wish, then he could retire in peace

Are most people in agreement that this season is a complete wash then for satelite teams? Edwads hasn't even come close to the podium this year and he doen't seem to be getting any quicker. Kallio could turn some heads though. Talmasci at 1 billion to one odds.

That's a bit generous, don't you think?

Well as to your question, we have had several satellite winers during the 990 era, a few that come to mind are Melandri, Elias, and Hayden. But I don't think we will see it happen in the 800 era.

All things considered, even moving back to the 990's in 2011?

I reckon we will have to see a superb performance by one of the satellite riders (like Elias for example has been able to deliver in the past) combined with a couple of lackluster performances from the top riders (such as riding injured) and/or technical/tire problems/crashes at the top.

So in other words, for a satellite rider to win with the kind of performance differences we have right now, it takes A LOT of luck to happen.

You sure about that?

I give satellite riders exactly zero percent chance at a win in 2009. Next year I think Melandri or Simoncelli, whoever gets the factory kitted RC212V in the Gresini garage could have a decent chance. If Spies makes the jump and gets some sort of factory backed effort, he could well have a chance.

I put his name there to make this point:

If Hayden had a factory spec ride while being Peders teammate it would be news to me.

In dry weather than yes, I don't think a satellite team has a genuine hope (of course, barring a monumental crash that takes out half the field).

But, in a flag-to-flag I see an opportunity as some have gotten close over the last year or so, just who though I would not know as it would be up to the right circumstances on teh day.

So, yes but only flag-to-flag

If anyone can its Colin....me dont think so though. If my memory serves me well enough Estoril 06 saw KRJR on a real parts bin up there with satellite shod Elias and VR for the win. 990's were not only more entertaining, the trophy cabinet was open to more than just the few

Hopefully financial problems will be the final nails in the coffin to this current technical blight on the championship.....sooner rather than later
