Can Honda snatch championship frontrunner now Yamaha won't meet Jorge's demands?

THE HOTTEST rumour flying around the MotoGP scene right now is that Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo is contemplating a shock switch to Honda.
Sources say Lin Jarvis, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, is currently in negotiation with the Spaniard as Lorenzo's contract expires at the end of this season.

But it's understood Lorenzo is asking for 5 million euros to remain at Yamaha - double what he's on right now. Yamaha have said they'll up Lorenzo's fee to 3.5 million euros but won't go any further.

Reports say Lorenzo is now in talks with Honda, who are interested in setting the Spaniard up in his own factory-backed squad.

not nesesarily rog. theres plenty of hondas out there with under performing riders.

True and i found your telifonica theory interesting. But im not sure Lorenzo will be happy riding that if he feels pedro on the repsol may be getting first dibs on parts ect. Lorenzo will want to be Honda #1 rider not just gresini #1 even with a so called factory spec bike. just my silly season thoughts, no facts to support it

it's all pie in the sky at this time but if any of this speculation comes to pass i think honda would defo give jorge what he would want.....i'm sure it would be writen in the contract............ co #1.

No, I think the little ..... seat might be safe. With Sete's team pulling out, bets are up Honda will fill the void. Gambling with two spanish rider to please whomb ever.

It would be like when Rossi went to the top class. He was sponsered by a beer company, but still factory supported. Then was placed in the repsol them later. I think pedro will get one more year to prove himself. Should he fail "which he will" the Jorge will have is seat in 2011.

Think this could certainly happen, but I am sure that Horhey would need to see how close to Yamaha in terms of development and performance the Honda is by the end of the season.

There is no way that 99 would even consider playing second fiddle to Pedrobot, but I also think he would chose a bike which is best suited to winning the championship. 5 large ones is a lot of money, but I think Horhey's motivation will be winning. Perhaps with a title in the bag next season and perhaps GOAT retiring, Lorenzo will get all the money he needs from Yamaha

Does he want to be stuck winning on Rossi's bike?? We know if he went to Honda he would be winning on Hayden's bike so that's better

EXACTLY that was my first thought when i read the first posting!

pedrosa is DONE when lorenzo comes...lorenzo is a rider that can bring honda back on top....i think the next few races dani will have to show what he really can do (now that hes ok again). laguna was great for him, but he has to keep the momentum up if he wants to stay no 1. honda is not in GP to be 3rd or sth. they will take the rider that brings them the title...and if pedrosa is not REALLY good in the next races I think they will take lorenzo desperately!!!

Repsol will be more than happy to sponsor two Spanish riders and Lorenzo will be given guarantee that he will receive equipment as quickly as Pedrosa or sooner.

Bingo. Although that's assuming Honda can secure sponsorship for Dovi's one-man factory team.

Even if Dani does really well for the rest of the season, his next crash will put him out of testing and a few races. Honda should be judging Pedro on his career so far. Yeah he has moments of brilliance but he has also had an injury prone season after season after season. So if they put all their marbles in one basket and it breaks another season is lost. Honda need to wake up and sign Whorehay. I'd like to see what he can do out of the shadow of Rossi

no way will this work! fish your forgetting the puig factor. i doubt very seriously that these 2 will ever ride on the same team at the same time.... ever..... never..... ever in a million trillion years!

most teams would be delighted with dani's performance in his career, He has finished 3rd's and 2nd in the championship so none to shabby but this is honda and they want the # 1 plate. 2nd is just not good enough for the big H and i think dani is going to find this out the hard way .He had his chance and not come up with the goods.

At least Lorenzo is contemplating moving to a competitive team, not Kawasaki. There's a difference.

Well in his defence I have to say that if he keeps crashing and getting hurt he won't have much left after the medical bills.
