Ah well that makes him a Brit then. :)

Sound logic. We do the same thing with Mark Webber. Except when he's doing badly, then he's an Aussie.

Eh. I think the injury will be bothering MM more this morning than it did during the race. Whatever they did to re-seat it, they did a good job, he seemed to move about on the bike easily enough, and I don't think it affected his performance to extent that it would've changed the result.

I can't be 100% on that of course, but if you're going to talk injury, that's like saying Marquez is only good enough to beat Lorenzo when he's recovering from a collarbone injury. Which I also think is bollocks.

Both J-Lo and Marky Mark did themselves proud yesterday, and this is just the sort of rivalry that's missing from F1 at the moment. You've got 2 very talented riders with wildly differing styles that are great fun to watch.

I heard just as much cheering when Jorge took lead back. I think most people were just getting into the battle. I definitely saw more people in MM kit than JL though.

Sorry, regarding Marques/Lorenzo just joking about.  Personally I don't much like Lorenzo for his whinging (Rossi Motegi 2010, Marques Jerez 2013 for a couple of examples) He is a great rider for sure, but many people have their favourites, plus I'd never wish any harm on any of them.  I used to not like Pedrosa, but last year I was rooting for him over Lorenzo (sorry Jums).

Regarding the Marques / Lorenzo passing at Shiverstone I'd agree there was just as much cheering for each of the overtakes - lovely to see some passes, regardless of who's doing it.

Brits have a tendency of being bandwagon fans. They loved them some Valentino when he was wining. Just look at Yamaka46, he has abandoned Rossi and bought a Marquez mug. He is even considering a name change to Honka93. :) Welcome to the forum.

Honka wouldn't work - it's not how Marques pronounces "Honda" ;)

Regarding bandwagons, I remember turning up to Donington in 2000 after missing a couple of years and being gobsmacked how much Rossi paraphernalia there was on display - hats, t-shirts, flags etc.  No one in the UK had ever done that to that extent, or not that I'd seen having been watching live since 1987.  I think it was more Rossi's PR machine cranking up selling the gear that caused it in the UK.  I recall earlier GPs where they sold the official t-shirt for the event and team gear, the odd hat or t-shirt for particular riders, nothing like what became available when He ( ;) ) turned up.  Brits do seem to root for one rider at a time though - it's not just me with my serial fanboi-ism, most of my mates have had favourites over the years, so perhaps as a nation we're susceptible ;)

As I said in another thread, Rossi seems to be marketing Marques so the fans of Rossi see Marques merchandise on his official VR|46 stands and this, together with Marques' winning ways seem to have started to spawn another phenomenon in the UK.

BTW, the Rossi mug is still in use at work at the moment as it has been since 2000 - call the Marques mug insurance for when Rossi doesn't manage to up his game :)

That's cool. I'd never have a beef with someone liking a different rider to me (Although I would laugh my ... off if you do actually rename yourself Honka93) but I will debate .... with said people. It's why I love forums. If everyone had the same opinion, they'd be a lot less fun.

Equally I'd never want any of the riders to get hurt either. I wasn't happy to see Marquez crashed, and I definitely respect him getting back on the bike, and although I've chosen a side in the JL/MM fight, they're both good. I'm hoping these battles run and run.

We posted across each other (fnarr fnarr) - it's all good, but there is no way I'd rebadge myself.  The convo has been had on here that I wish I'd never added the 46 to my username, or even picked a Rossi-centric one - it was a funny idea when I first started with bike forums in 2005 or there-abouts, but I never expected to enjoy this place enough to be still here all these years on!!

I'd rather see racing then a runaway regardless of who wins - part of the reason I've followed Rossi and now Marques - racing is better with them than without them, even when Rossi was at the top of his game he didn't f-off into the middle distance too often.  Mind you I also followed Doohan, who did at times.

Redding was impressive at Shiverstone. Maybe it's because I'm new to the sport and don't really 'get' everything yet, but it seems to me he should've got Cal's bike next year.

Murder Marshal. Jumkie wins the nickname contest hands down with that one. Im going to call him Murder Marshal Mathers, it all ties in with my Slim Shady nomination.

I havnt seen a group of Brits run that fast since the American Revolution.

I would like to congratulate Dr Claudio from the Clinica de Mobile for wrestling away the title from Travis Pastrana as "Most dangerous Man in Extreme Sports"

Im impressed with 93. We havnt seen such quality and believable acting since Ian Zeiring in "Sharknado" or Asston Kutcher in "Dude Wheres my Car". Hes given us two unbelievable performances this year. First in the Holy .... that was not planned , Corkscrew incident and now the incredibly believable dislocated shoulder with no symptoms incident. During the Rossi era we were treated comedic acting. Marquez has changed the game. Comedy and buffoonery are no longer in. Its the era of dramatic actor now

It must be so frustrating for Honda engineers to build the perfect bike for their #1 rider and yet cant fix the throttle controller for 8 years now. Or is it the number 2 bike? Or is it the number 26 bike? .... it I can't keep track of the number. I just call it the 25% bike. But that's confusing as well because there are three other 25% bikes that can win 100% of the time. The rest of the field should run the 0% number plate.

I can remember back in 06 the 26 tried to 86 the 69 because some farfetched number crunching computed that 666 could still add up to 1.

8 years later the number is still not 1. Its -8 and 69 is +1. After watching 93 beat him with 1 arm (allegedly) its time to say his number is up.

For someone so full of metal it certainly cant be said he has any mettle

Nice exchange between Rossi and Bautista. Uccio must be furious watching all the back and forth, up and down position swapping and rolling around in the dirt together this year between the two

Marshall-Murdering Marquez = 3M = Chemicals

Spanish = 1/2 Moorish

Therefore:

I feel the Grinning Devil planned to finish in second place in order to bring in another horde of fans via the sympathy route. By losing the race with the smallest of margins he has added 2 million devoted Brit fans. Gotta hand it to the kid for one upping the Mona Lisa smile with the Marquez grin.

I heard much the same, it was about 50/50 (Hopper/Hill BSB '11, just the same.)  I was very surprised by the amount of noise for MM, it wasn't that way last year.  The cheer for Scott taking MM was even louder, just the same as when he took this victory

I'm not sure if I can ever be accused of jumping on the bandwagon, as Lil Red says "you know talent when you see it."  The majority of my favourite riders I have been following for years as they rose up the ranks.  I'm not a Rossi fan because I saw the same thing every race, runaway victories race after race.  I had a long hiatus when it wasn't possible for me to watch races, when I was able to watch racing again Rossi was on the Honda.

Jumkie and 14X have good points in that the more successful someone or something becomes, the more they are likely to be supported.  I've never gone for that, it makes me want to shout more for the underdog.  Donington '06 support for Rossi was deafening, particularly when he was in the battle with Melandri (I think I was in a tiny minority shouting for Marco.)  Lots of Schumacher, Liverpool surpassed by ManU, Rossi fans, I could go on.  Fanboy at Silverstone dressed head to foot in Rossi gear, even with the exact same kind of piercing, just made me sick.  When Rossi started leg dangling, I saw Scooter Boy, with replica helmet, doing the same as he rounded a street corner pmsl.

I just watched the race again this morning.  (3am, couldn't sleep on account I went to the dentist an he tore up my grill, what can I say, I'm still chasing John Hopkins' sparkling smile.)

Why haven't people talked more .... about the pitiful coverage?  My god, can somebody figure out where we can submit our complaints lambasting the director of camera coverage?  They really need to put an immediate and indefinite moratorium on these garage reaction shots, cut aways to fans  cheering (we get it, they are having fun at the track while I'm at home with my .... in my hand), oh and the cut away to the fan clubs at the stands (the worst being the Mugello round where we have to get the mandatory VR fanboy club of uniformed yellow tshirts clones), and useless pit board signs that are meaningless to us (though Pedrosa's "T" pitboard was a bit hilarious, as the commentators speculated what it might be about, I think it was obvious it was short for "....").  If they insist on showing us this meaningless ........, then split screen this ....!  Even the club racing known as the AMA (according to Euros) have started to split screen the coverage.  I'd like to know who the .... watching the races on TV ever got one iota of insight from the reactions by the crew to something that happened on the track? Newsflash to the ....... controlling the camera coverage: we at home were reacting to .... on the track until you cut away.   What the .... is this for?  We already know the crew members are rooting for "their" guy.  So your girlfriend, parents, and (in Rossi's case) boyfriend, is 'nervous' during the race, uhm woopty ....... doo.  The 2 seconds they cut to their ....... in the garage are two seconds I'm not watching the actual race. If these ........ insist on cutting away to the mandatory "girlfriend reaction" then at least make it mandatory these ....... have to watch the race naked, otherwise keep the camera on the action you .......s.

Rant over.  I feel better.  My teeth still feel like .... though.

Edit: The only garage shot worth a .... this weekend was the timely images of Pol Espargaro crying his eyes out.  Hahaha, this was truly priceless.  This was ok though because it was done AFTER the race was over.  And... it was done for the delight of all watching.

'Tis true. Also poignant since it depicts the strange state of affairs in MotoGP. The current Moto2 championship leader quit crying and started making himself mentally resilient and physically tough, but he is going to ride a CRT next season. The entitled Spanish kid who cries when he loses is going to be riding a prototype.

Strange times.
