Silverstone GP 2013: RACE (spoilers)

Well I was once chastised for saying a yellow didn't mean you had to slow down but rather the rule was 'no passing'.  So which is it?

And, if he was given a warning points for this and not for using Lorenzo as a battering ram berm at Jerez, then .... race direction.  I'm not fooled.  This is done for show.  Hey, lets make it look like we are doing something up here boys.  Hey, lets give Marc a meaningless doc on these phantom points system.

If race direction is going to do anything meaningful, they should be docking points for crying at the track.  There is no crying in racing!

Great race, that last few laps when Lorenzo and Marquez were trading places, oh boy!! That was real racing and I thoroughly enjoyed it. At least with Marquez having a damaged shoulder they're all equal at the front there now ;)

Rossi and Bautista seem to end up duelling every race now, Bradl is always there or there abouts too, thing is Rossi should by rights be up the front with this team mate and the Hondas, I'm not sure why he isn't.

Pedrosa caught up to the front runners but couldn't muscle his way by, he wanted to but just couldn't do it I'd say. Not sure what happened to Cal, though I do know he had an injured arm, maybe that was something to do with it.  That crash by Dovi looked painful to me, ouch.

Good race though, really good!!

Oh and I was wondering what you had to go in order to get a penalty.  Now I know. Not slowing down and risking marshals is a bad thing to do. Having seen one die in F1 this year you realise you have to respect these guys and in my opinion it's right to make sure the riders respect them too.

Superior competition and diminishing skills

Bradl has been sucking. One podium in two years on a "factory" spec RCV. Now even getting beat by Alvaro. Give Redding Bradl's bike.

Great race. The last few laps were Epic. Pedrosa is a bit of a worry. As usual right there, but never even shows a wheel to his competitors. He isn't a demon on the brakes that the other 2 front runners are. Lorenzo & Marquez were awesome. JL had to dig very deep to pull off the win. Marquez is a freak. The kid is crazy good. Yamaha need their 2nd factory rider to be in the fight. Trying to take points from the HRC boys. Not battling it out with Bautista & Bradl on sattelite bikes.

As Lyria kind of said already, under yellow you should ride 'reasonable', the common sense of this being 'not so close to the limit'. overtaking would be closer to the limit than holding your line, having a faster sector there than in your last quick lap would be one, and breaking so damn late that you land on your ... falls into this category as well. I think this is how the 'yellow' rule is being applied. so technically the penalty point might correct, in fact I believe it's just superfluous nonsense. The other guys being penalized so far iirc were Barbera for cruising in Dovi's way and Dovi for kicking towards him (one point each).

As for Bradl, I think him and Rossi have similar issues: both need a rather perfect bike in order to shine, as they aren't too strong in riding around problems, as are the strengths of Stoner, Marquez and, lately, Lorenzo. Today Bradl a. messed up his tire choice and b. said that edge grip in longer corners is a consistent issue that they couldn't resolve but that was less apparent in Laguna due to the different nature of the track (more stop'n'go instead of flowing, that is). Some of Bradl's problems seem to persist on and on, and it seems his team ain't able to resolve them. So instead of giving his bike to Redding they might rather hand over the seemingly tough task of operating a near-fac bike to the Gresini team, or at least lend some more capable personnel to LCR. (Not to say that Bradl is free of responsibility, but we should take the team into the equation as well).

edit: Frizzle, Pedrosa's pace isn't worrying, but his lack of QP performance and recently .... starts are. He lost ground early, the burnt up his tires catching up. Was obvious to see, and he stated it like that after the race.

Great weekend.

EspA crashed in front of us at Becketts on Saturday - glad to see he was fit for Sunday. Crutchlow and Marques crashed in front of us during warm-up at Vale - great grandstand BTW - been in the LH end of it the last 2 years and seen some great action.  Just a shame that the start-finish had moved back to after Luffield so it wasn't quite as dramatic.  Mind you, quick get-away for those in the campsite - was home by 3pm :)

Pleased for Redding - rode a superbly controlled race, shame he gets a CBR.1 next year - as others have said, give him Bradl's bike.

Marques, what can you say?  I agree that if he had no issue going into Vale during WUP (given that he wasn't the next bike through after Crutchlow by any means) then some kind of warning was good.  The only thing I can say is that Pirro crashed on the same corner near the start of the session - could he have left fluids on the track that both CC & MM were unlucky enough to find??  There was a lot of clean-up work done by the marshalls after MotoGP WUP but no concrete dust, so perhaps unlikely.  Still a plucky ride with a damaged wing - nearly got Lorenzo at the end. Rossi - it's the changing of the guard I think.  Amazed by the number of punters still buying his gear, but found it interesting that VR|46 is now selling both CC & MM stuff - can't say the bloke ain't smart!!   Bought a 93 mug on Saturday to go with the Rossi one I bought in 2000 at Donington, then thought I'd jinxed him during warm-up!!

Even got to meet Willski - great guy and he didn't try to sell me a bible at all!! Sadly failed to catch up with LilRed - maybe next year.

Jorge celebrating the win with a new hair cut....

:punk:

Just got back from the track so I havent caught up with the thread, but my god did I have fun. I'm defintely converted to two-wheel racing. This was so awesome to watch. I need to watch those last 5 laps again. When Rossi got Bautista and then Lorenzo took lead back from Marquez with 2 brilliant moves at the same time, I have to admit I felt my pants tighten.

They need to slip Crutchlow's old bike into Rossi's garage next year or just buy out his contract. When the powers that be were pushing to put him on an M1 again, they should have put in a clause that nullified his contract if became known as the greatest of all 4th placers. or for short... the GOAP
