Organisers of the Malaysian MotoGP race are interested in running a night race, according to Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta.

Qatar is set to host the first MotoGP race at night in 2008, but organisers for the Malaysian race attended the recent night test session held at the Losail circuit.

"Malaysia are thinking about (night racing) too, at Sepang," Ezpeleta told Motosprint. "They are very interested in making this investment as well."

Ezpeleta added that there were several genuine reasons for holding races at night, rather than just having it as a gimmick.

"Since we first signed the contract with Qatar, I explained my worries, which were mostly about the great heat," he said. "And the government told us 'why don't we race at night?'

"The race can now be held on Sunday prime time and that's ideal. And then, by being at night, this event becomes very fascinating and it becomes something prestigious for the country."

The Qatar government has spent approximately 20 million euros on their project to make the night race happen.

If the F1 night race is a commercial success in Singapore, and Qatar works out, then expect the same thing to happen at Sepang. I'm all for it, means not geting up at all hours of the night to see the races live.

I tells ya, if it works out this year, this will be the future for top-level motorsport. The atmosphere is much better, and its much more pleasant for the crowds (sitting in the midday sun in Malaysia or Qatar isn't healthy...)

What ........, its obviously for commerical reasons like having the race on at a nice time for the majority of people in Europe.

The viewing figures must take a hit everytime theres a race on at a weird time.

And it seems to be the nice governments shelling out for these expensive races, not Dorna.

1. Well duh, Moto GP is a European sport, you just have to look at the schedule for that.

2. See above.

3. Well, maybe these governments think it'll be beneficial to their economy to have a major sporting event?
