The hondas are looking fast

Stoner is not nearly as far ahead of rossi in fp1 as at assen, and as we keep saying valentino does need to set up the yamaha on the bridgestones at each new track. Betwin or those punting with them may be premature in switching the odds.

Hopefully we might get an interesting race.

The winner of the past two Grands Prix, and the dominant rider in free practice and qualifying at said events, continued to impose his will on the premier class in Sachsenring. Reigning World Champion Casey Stoner emerged from the opening practice session for the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland with the fastest time of the morning, a 1´22.318 turn of the German circuit.

Frequently impressing in practice, if not quite mirroring the results in the races themselves, Alex de Angelis once again attracted attention onboard the San Carlo Gresini Honda. The San Marino rider recorded a late lap just under three-tenths of a second slower than Stoner´s marker, relegating Valentino Rossi to third on the timing screen.

Last year´s race winner and current MotoGP World Championship leader Dani Pedrosa was fourth fastest, the quickest Michelin-shod rider of the session. Behind him, Andrea Dovizioso and Shinya Nakano made it four Hondas in the top six.

Tech 3 Yamaha´s Colin Edwards headed countryman Nicky Hayden, LCR Honda rider Randy de Puniet and Fiat Yamaha´s Jorge Lorenzo in the top ten, whilst returning rider Loris Capirossi experienced a slow start in Sachsenring as he tested out his forearm condition fllowing his Assen crash

Pole position: Casey Stoner AUS Ducati Marlboro (B) 1min 22.384secs
Fastest lap: Dani Pedrosa SPA Repsol Honda (M) 1min 23.082secs

Toseland binned it on his third lap.

Pedrosa and Dovi both down in practice 2 already - both ok.
Stoner's just done at 1.21.7 - faster than Pedrosa's 2006 pole time.

Even though Stoner dropped it with 5 mins to go he is so far ahead of anyone else that I think they're all going to be fighting for 2nd.

plenty of crashes again then these 800's are so safe.....

I didn't see any film of stoner's crash. Was there any evidence of a carbon fibre chassis

?

I repeat again that even as a stoner fan I believe that the 800cc formula was poorly considered and that it looks increasingly as though they need to devise a better one quickly. It is also pretty obvious though that riding the ducati fast does require a reasonable amount of input from casey and that he is still pushing close to the edge, perhaps unnecessarily in fp2 to play psychological dominance games.

It is getting a bit tired to hear the continued refrain from some that when other riders do well it is due to their skill but that casey stoner uniquely in the field succeeds by technical advantage.
