Rossi: Broken Tibia?

why Elias? you have Spies, a rider that Yamaha is very keen to have in MotoGP (seeing as how they moved him up a year earlier) and they have an old hand in Edwards. i would be shocked if they passed over those two to replace Rossi.

Spies to Fiat

Elias to Tech 3 Id like to see that, Elias is too good to be in Moto 2 i think he can still kick some ... in Moto gp

Dude, I was thinking the same thing!  I suspect Toni has a contract and all that, but I'd die to see him on a proper, well sorted bike.

Very strange to not see vr line up for a race, it has never happened!!!

Nightmare stuff, hopefully he won't suffer complications from infection with that open wound. Something which they won't know too much about until now......

It's not 'if' but 'when' with motorcycles.

Jl looked genuine in his sadness for the loss of his teammate, this has major reprocussions for jls title chase and no matter what if he wins this year now it will be hollow. Alah Doohan and Crivelle, Rainey and Schwantz, Frasier and Ali.

Devastating for the sport, no doubt millions will switch off taking millions of dollars with them. It will be a great chance for motogp to take it's first steps towards a series without their trump card of recent years. Hopefully it won't be processional, very unlikely with the times from practice and qual. Dorna needs some freakishly good racing to get through this.

Makes the silly season now very interesting......... Great post before Arri

Couldn't agree more mate. There has been so much silly season talk already and Rossi's injury is going to add fuel to fire and make it the silliest of silly seasons............

I mentioned this in my early post that I'm a big Rossi fan and I'm absolutely gutted by this but i certainly won't ''switch off''. I'm a fan of the sport, love bikes after that the rider and manfacture thing comes into it .Its rather silly that some people won't watch races but unfortunately its the truth of the matter.

I think we will see Elias get the ride with a promise of a Tech 3 MotoGP ride next year to compensate him for not being able to fight for the Moto2 championship. I can't see that Spies is allowed to take the factory ride after all he is technically a rookie and beyond that the complications extend to the team as Spies rides with his own pit team so what would they do with Burgess.

This could be the opportunity to relaunch Elias's career. Six months with Burgess as crew chief and I am sure you will see at least 1 win from the little man if he is allowed that is.

Burgess and Spies sounds like a winning formula mate.......

For what its worth, Lorenzo did describe Elias as his best friend i the motogp paddock in one of the after the flags this year. I would love to see elias at fiat. It could be a major breakthrough in his career, which at certain moments looked so full of promise. Worst case scenario, if elias doesn't find success on the Fiat and nothing pans out, he can finally be at peace knowing that it wasn't the equipment holding him back. Nasty legal battles with Gresini over a broken contract would also be an interesting side show.

Takahashi is another possiblity to slide into tech 3 if Spies getst he fiat ride. Or the other tech 3 moto2 guy (de rosa?). Neither of those two excite me however.

Maybe Cal Crutchlow as a stand-in? He says his eventual goal is MotoGP, this will give him a taste.

I just read the full quote from the surgeon. It sounds as though they are hopeful of closing the wound in a few days, which is a good sign.

I am surprised he doesn't have a fractured fibula as well, not that such fractures are usually much of a problem.

Unless Dorna are willing to throw out the rule book then Spies can not step up to the Factory team as he is a rookie. Therefore Fiat has to field a previous full time rider which to me also counts out a test rider. Also you have the issue of teams. Edwards and Spies have their crews who I would assume they are used to working with and do they drop their team and switch to Burgess and his crew or does Burgess and crew get to play with a Tech 3 for awhile? If Fiat Yamaha wants to run at the front then they need a rider who is capable and there are not many around. What is Hopper's physcial condition at the moment?

I agree Elias would kick butt as he is riding with confidence at the moment.

I wonder
<
what would be better for Elias long term? If he were to come to Fiat Yam temporarily and not perform well he could very well end his chances of returning to the GP paddock. If however he chose to remain in M2 to complete the season and wins the M2 championship I suspect he'd be all but guaranteed another GP run for 2011 with a CONTRACT for the entire season. Perhaps the decision is not as black and white as many of us think.....or perhaps it is? I just don't know but I suspect the M2 champion would certainly earn a GP seat. A poor showing on the "best bike on the grid" might prove less helpful than simply winning the M2 title?

Thoughts?

They would be mad to not put Colin on the bike, keep it near the front for the sponsors and keep burgess's and the teams eye in with a rider who already knows the thing, promote to tech 3 whoever.........

MotoMatters reporting that a Yam test rider will likely be placed on the bike. That would sure prove boring!! Ferrari did the same when Massa was out. Long time test driver Luca Badoer turned laps in the car but was never fast. LAME! I hope something with more teeth happens in this case.

I agree and maybe Burgess and crew can be the factor to get Edwards over the hump for that elusive win!!!

This goes against every fabric of my being but I agree with you Talpa! Colin is a sound and safe choice for the ride and history says he is happy to do the grunt work for the lead rider. But I think it would be better PR for Yamaha to chuck Elias at it and if he gets a win then that would be huge for them. If I was Elias I wouldn't jump ship with Gresini and a possible Moto2 championship for a satellite ride this season. But a factory ride with a satellite Yamah next year - I'd be saying "where do I sign?"

I would never disagree with Kro but isn't there a rule that states X number of races completed in the same year to be considered a full time rider and only full time riders can get a factory seat. If so then how can a test rider who hasn't doesn't have full time rider status get a factory seat for perhaps the remainder of the season (15 races).

I believe it is something like 9 races, so a test rider would presumably not be qualified, but ben spies might be fairly soon.

Edwards does seem the obvious choice although he is now contracted to tech trois rather than yamaha so presumably herve would have to agree.

Tis indeed a shame for the championship that this has occurred as, like most others as a fan of ths port one does not like or wish to see any rider suffer an injury that requires races to be missed as all impactupon the championship. Add to this that the rider in question is the face of the sport and one can expect a major outpouring of feelings both positive and negative as people come to terms with racing without Rossi.

Indeed, it seems safe to say that the injury has ended VR's title chase in 2010 but that should not detract from the eventual winner as they still need to beat many other competitors to finish, as many have said 'to finish first, first you must finish'.

To Rossi, wishes for a successful and complete recovery, which if it means next year than so be it as one does not wish to see a rider riding in excrutiating pain and exacerbating any effects of an injury unnecessarily. Hope the doctors have gotten this one right and done a damn fine job, unlike those doctors of years ago on MD.

As to replacement - I say bring back McCoy.

hopefully rossi doesn't try to come back too early. he should take the time to relax and get back to full health. skipping the whole season would be a good idea imo. (sucks for the fans, but good for the man)

Why didn't they show a clear video of the crash?

We could see it a lot better when Lorenso had a few crashes.

I dont believe that they haven't had a camera there, stupid dorna.

I dont think Yamaha will Dare to put Spies on Rossi's bike, (EVEN if they could and the Rookie rules allowed it)

They will take a high risk of losing Vale for good. Edwards at this moment seems the most right one for Yamaha and Rossi.

when u crash one to many times the camera is always on you waiting for u to crash. vale tends to stay on his bike
