Nicky To try Radical change

I foresee Kallio replacing Nicky next year if things don't change in a hurry for #69.

Yeah, Kallio is really setting the world on fire. This is the first time the Pramac guys have gotten all of the factory updates. I wonder if Ducati will give Kallio full factory support so he will make the Duc look like a viable bike for next year.

Doesn't look good for Hayden, not good at all.

I'm glad to see Dovi at the front as well. If Ducati keep Kallio at the front and Dovi can continue to improve the Honda, we may have 5 or 6 people at the pointy end.

Wow, Kallio is immediatly faster with the new parts than he ever was in the race weekend. An improvement of 7 tenths from the qualifying.

Personally - I don't think that would be a tragedy. I think we'd all rather see
Nicky on a bike that he can gel with - before his spirit gets broken altogether.
.... . . . I wouldn't mind seeing him ride a Ducati Superbike and competing against
Spies next year (assuming he's still in WSBK).

Whaah? Did I miss something?

Nicky will arm wrestle with the Ducati all year. This is just a test however and today's times mean .... all.

Regarding Monday's test times.

I don't understand how the hell he can putz around for damn near 100 laps and not get anywhere. WTF are they doing? Maybe they are being methodical, and are planning to put all the pieces together tomorrow. Maybe he'll find the 1.5 ~ 2 seconds he needs. That's a nice fantasy, but I have a real bad feeling that it won't happen. As I see it, you've got to be on the edge to get meaningful feedback from the bike. Touring around in the 1:44s and 1:45s just won't stress the tires and chassis enough to reveal what's wrong. I'm afraid they'll wind up with a bike that feels GREAT doing 1:44's, but is completely unable to be pushed any faster.

Ducati and Nicky REALLY need to reach around and pull out one of those Jeremy-Burgess-Magic-...-Rabbits. Unfortunately, I don't think they know how...

(This is really discouraging.

Correct me if Im wrong but this was the only day of testing.

On to Assen. I don't have high hopes
<
but still hoping.

As a big fan of Hayden, I've been pullin' for him all spring to conquer the Duke. I will continue to as well, but there is a small part of me that would love to see him move to WSBK. I think that shoe would fit him perfect. He needs a bike that he can slide the hell out of, with less electronic control. Xerox Ducati...

Damn, you're right. I somehow thought it was a two day event.
Now I'm even more despondent.

In riding Hondas, Nicky and Marco never had to ride a bike over it's limits. Kallio and Stoner did this for multiple seasons.

Definitely some truth to what you say, but while Hayden may never have had to override the bike, he did override the bike every single race.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Jun 12 2009, 09:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Half a second off Stoner in his first go with the new settings? He's found something, ladies and gentlemen. I know Stoner fell off in the last quarter of an hour so he likely would have upped the pace by a few tenths but we haven't seen a second Ducati be this close to Stoner since Capirossi. This new setting should allow him to find a top five pace for Sunday, and Monday's test should give him a considerable amount of data (all things considered with limited track time available this season). He could be back to consistent top fives in short order. Or perhaps the runway of a straight is hiding the other problems for Ducati, although that wasn't the case in Mugello or Qatar.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Jun 12 2009, 09:37 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I know it sounds crazy but when you go from consistently 2.0 to 2.5 second behind your teammate to 0.5 after one session, you've found something. He's a guy who finds speed by plugging away lap after lap and to make such a big jump in one session is astounding. I honestly think after Monday's test he's going to be even closer to the boys in front.
I've tried to hide my fanboy-ism for the whole season and after a sixth place in FP1, it slipped out. I'm embarrassed.

it's okay austin, we all understand the feeling

A serious non Nicky bashing question, maybe the newly declared Fan-Boy aka Austin can answer this for me.

How long is Nicky's current contract with Ducati, 1 year, 2 years or more?

Cheers

Mika is the long term future for Ducati, so investing in his confidence now will pay off for them. He is learnnig and now succeeding at riding the world most difficult motorcycle.

Nicky on the other hand is part of the 990 era and perhaps his time has come with a world title and its now gone so he should look to WSBK for his future.

Silly Season time!

2 years, turning out to be a nightmare for ducati. oh well. at least the got 1 rider to go fast other than stoner now, so cant blame it all on the bike, lack of practice, new bike, new this, if this, if that, if if if....

i hope it works out for him... i was thinking the switch to ducati would fit his riding style perfectly but that hasn't been the case. i don't want to give up on the guy completely... i think on a good setup he still has a few more podiums in him. i would hate to see him leave motogp without some sort of rise in his career after the downhill tumble he has taken since 06.

The 800s have not suited Nicky at all really, but people seem to have thought that he would adapt like Casey did. It does seem though that Nicky is following the KRJR path, doesn't it?
