The pressure Nicky could exert is a long way off. So Stoner has nothing to worry about this year and in fact, ever, from Nicky. There are only 3 guys that Stoner has to fret about;: Rossi, Lorenzo & Pedrosa. No-one else is even close. Nicky in the top 5 would take a huge effort and looking at the top ten I am smiling my ... off. Such talent.

He was a second and a half down then and up until this weekend, was still a second and a half down.
I've been wondering that for quite some time.

Didn't Ryder make those remarks in regards to the test in Valencia. If I remember correctly, Nicky actually recorded the best time during one of the wet sessions.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought Ryder's remarks were a knee-jerk reaction to a genuinely good result in testing.

Nicky did have some decent test results early on, just took him too long to get competitive in the curtailed race weekend period.

Girlies.. Hold on to your shirts and skirts...
1-FP1.. There is a long way to go
2-FP1... There is a long way to Sunday
Having said all of that... i am holding my breath. It will be truly amazing IF he can get things together and move giant leaps forward to challenge the top 7 to 8 guys.

I am pulling for the guy.

We will see in about 3 hrs what he does in FP2

its good to see the boy is enjoying his riding again. like jumkie says, i hope the smile stays there for longer than FP1.
Suzuki on the other hand.....

loris and CV are better than these results show. it must be the bike. make the engine work zuki engineers dammit!

Don tknow weather anyone has mentioned it already so sorry if so,

Did any one see the the massive 990 style slide on one of the corners in FP1

10th in FP2. Only .16 off Stoner.

7. Casey Stoner AUS Ducati Marlboro Team 1min 43.496 sec
10. Nicky Hayden USA Ducati Marlboro Team 1min 43.658 sec

Nothing too great...he's still almost 2 seconds off Jorge's pace.

At least he's got a smile on his face though. It's better than 15th!!

This is getting me a little bit excited here! I've been somewhat ehhh on MotoGP of late as Nicky was obviously struggling and was hard to watch. Gonna be tuning in for the live qualifying in a couple hours.

Nicky gives a little more detailed info to MCN here. I don't quite follow him on the bit about the speed/comfort element though.

“It was quite a lot more fun. Running around in the back isn’t any fun at all I can tell you. So it’s not great, but we were in sixth. I’m competitive and I enjoyed riding the bike and hopefully we’re on to something here and can be the beginning. We changed everything but the grips on it as far as the bike goes. Riding-wise I just feel that it’s more comfortable and I can push harder. When I’m fast on this bike, it’s not easy, because if it was easier you’d go faster. But the faster you go the more comfortable you are and feels like the more you risk your life you go quicker. I mean, you can be three seconds off the pace and it just feels like it’s not possible to find another tenth.” Hayden said he would not let today’s confidence-inspiring display let him get carried away, but he admitted his vastly improved performance had been a huge relief.

“It was a relief because we trust a lot in Vito and some of the last couple of things he had tried wasn’t a big help for me. So I had joked saying the only rider’s got more pressure than on me is Vito. I wanted to hug because everything he said, and I even I talked to him this week on the phone after he tested was right on cue with everything. But I don’t want to get too carried away. We’re not completely out of it, but hopefully we’re on to something. I enjoyed it today. The bike was turning better and that as probably the big thing. Sure it was pumping a lot less, but I could turn the bike now and when it would start pumping I had it picked up and wasn’t on the very side of the tyre trying to get it turned and get the throttle open.”

Mixed bag for Hayden today.

He slowly slid backwards relative to the field, but he did manage to find pace right away.

It weeks gone past, he was demoralized in FP1. After major gains in FP2 and QP he would still find himself at the bottom.

I'm sure he's playing with settings. I'll be interested to hear his take on the day's events.

Nicky's QP time if better than his FP2 time by a few tenths. He is near the back of the pack again unfortunately. The rest of the field pushed their times more than he did during qualifying. I guess the most important thing is that he is no longer consistently 2 or 3 seconds off the pace. I still think he will have his best outing on Sunday and I think anything inside the top 10 would be a significant improvement. Guess we'll know tomorrow.
