Mugello Discussion **Spoiler**

Maybe Rossi was just on form today and stoner was off form?

Rider's compromise isn't only go out there and race, they are who set the bike up and choose the tires. The team's interface between the bike and the track is just the rider and as important as race well is make the right setup and choices, if not the most important thing.

So, Stoner rode very good within the possibilities, but this possibilities was bounded by bike poor setup and tire choices.

This is crucial for a team and a rider who aims to be champion.

Now now ... I don't agree with ya ...

So far - except this season when you said ducati in motogp you said loris capirossi. It's a bad period ... but hey it's racing and stuff like this happen. I have my belief that loris will be back on top soon. it's not fair to ask for retirement ...after a bad period .. or is it? You can't be allways on top ...
I won't start making excuses ....but i don't like the ideea of retirement.

We'll see how things turn out. in the end ...

stoner ...remember last year he crashed at mugello so it's an improvement for him.

ehhm

I admit as a capirossi fan this situation isn't easy to swallow, let alone that he isn't going welll but his team-mate is beating him. But i have hope he'll kick back soon now ... maybe even at catalunya -

well another great italian gp! the weekend was very strange with all the dry & wet which made for some interesting qualifying. quite the crap shoot!!! the race , paticularly in the beginning, was fantastic with so many passes! but it settled into a rythm & to my surprise the yamaha of who else but rossi wins! i have to say i really thought that ducati were gonna clean up here & vale would struggle to get to the podium but i was way wrong. he got a .... start but came up thru pretty quick once he got up to his pace. brilliant ride from him. anybody who thinks hes over the hill.... bet against him at your own peril! pedrosa did an excellent job & surprised me. i did'nt think he was gonna go so well even tho his practise times were very fast. i did'nt think he was gonna keep pace but really was the only 1 able to go with rossi. the yam & rossi were just to good in the flow that is mugello. pedrosa is there, the honda just needs a bit more work. alex barros!!! what a great result for him & the pramac squad. anybody thinkin that the satillite bikes of d'antins ducatis are'nt up to snuff take note. alex is inconsistent but when hes on & at a track he likes, he shows his quality. casey stoner.... props to him for a very mature ride. he was'nt gonna do it on the day but did the best his package was capaple of. i think he could have gotten 3rd but played it smart not to try to fight barros who had a hell of alot less to lose than he. good on him!!! john hopkins... another good ride from hopper! i really did'nt think it would be possible for him to podium here simply cause the suzuki is'nt quite there yet but their gettin there! do i dare say it?
<
......... toni elias. an excellent ride considering how far back he was on the grid. he stayed outa trouble & ran a solid race for 6th beating his team mate & the ex champ. & as always, when he was show, i was enjoying that hang it off slidin around style! loris capirossi.... very dissapointed in cappers. i thought for sure he'd be up there thru the whole race. what happened? chris vermullen needs to get alot faster in the dry. marco melandri..... another big dissapointment. i thought he would have been the front honda man. what happened? nicky hayden....... what can u say.... beyond dissapointment...pathetic comes to mind
<
alex hoffman.... somebody give this good bike to a rider who can do something with it please! colin edwards... see u in sbk series next season. the rest.... well the usually expected results. bring on catalunya!!!
<

TonyElias member got banned before he copped a mouthful DAMN.. nar jk.

Rossi - Way to good, came back from a long way today i thought!
Pedders - He is so good to watch
Barros - He's wicked!! all i got to say!

Stoner & Cappers - whats doin? it was lookin good early on! Dissapointed in Stoner.

Looks pretty good for Rossi leading into Catalunya! Lets just wait and see tho!

they really did'nt have alot of time to get a proper set up this weekend tho did they. can't win em all. if this is as bad as it gets i don't think ducati will be to unhappy. tho i know the fans are.

I agree the D'antin bikes are really good, the gap between the factory and the satellite bikes seems a lot smaller than previous years. Alex Hoffman rode his 100th GP, does anyone still think he is an up an coming rider? I didnt realise he'd been around so long. He's just not a GP rider, he needs to join Edwards in SBK next year. Hayden says hes a momentum guy, I think this hurts his mental approach to racing.

Hopkins on the grid "Its going to be deadly out there". Well said.

Stoner said:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"I was going to give it a go, but we really didn't have enough time to get the settings right.

"Most of the teams have got a fair bit of knowledge for this track because they're using the same bikes as last year. We could have just done with that extra session, but anyway I'm happy with a top four result.

Mugello is the Ducati's garden and they didnt have enough time to setup?

i think it was stoner who needed the time.

sorry i just cant understand race fans who say things like this, with all the problems that have happend during races latley nothing is in the bag ,not untill the chequered flag, watching rossi work his way from 8th to a 3 second win was not at all boring to me.
barros took the 3rd because he's a late breaker, nice to see him on the rostrum again and good for my fantasy league.

my sarcastic comment is "stoner was sure owned by rossi today"

stoner rode well enough,he didnt do anything really wrong its just didnt go the way most of us thought it would. i think most people though mugello would be a stoner or capi win because of the straight but as i predicted yamaha and honda had a plan for mugello.
interesting point i noticed was the ducati was still way faster through the speed trap yet didnt really catch up with the slower bikes untill the end of the straight where it was to late, it just didnt look like it had its normal grunt. this would be down to higher gearing to active a top speed rather than power or torque i recon. is ducatis advantage over ?

Good race. I found it particularly enjoyable and i think the result was good for the championship as Rossi and Pedrosa both closed the gap on Stoner.

Rossi was unstoppable today i think Pedrosa did well and although he kept up with Rossi for a few laps and passed him in the slipstream, Valentino was just too quick for him in the second half of the race really.

Stoner was a bit disappointing today, i thought he would win if i'm honest and being beaten by Barros was very surprising. The ducati didnt seem to have the such a big speed advantage particularly over honda who had clearly raised theirs and Steve Parrish said that he thought ducati had been worried about fuel consumption and had detuned the engine slightly, losing a little bit of their advantage.

Michelin also improved this weekend and i think the tyres were pretty equal with michelin 1 and 2 and then bridgestone 3,4,5 etc.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (phleg @ Jun 3 2007, 02:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I never in my wildest dreams thought Rossi would win that...winning on a much slower bike.
You can never right Rossi off but I have to admit I thought he would struggle against the Ducati's speed with another long straight, then add to that his poor start. Once I saw that the Ducatis couldn't lose the Hondas though, I knew Rossi would be alright when he got back with them. He rode like only Rossi can.

Rossi was great on the slow M1 (MOPED 1) and his favorite tracks to come

It was a great race. I am suprised that Stoner only finished 4th as he was dominant in qualifying but he can't be perfect every week. It will be super good when both get their bikes set up perfect, both get the right tyres.

Dani - I'd just wish he smiled a bit more and loosened up but I do like his attitude in that he thought he was going to win.

Steve

Wow Barros forgot who really signs his paychecks. You can be sure Domencali has already hired snipers to spectate at every circuit for the rest of the season.

Stupid Pramac, you can guarantee the next batch of engines they get aren't going to have the same pop as the ones they have now................., don't they know anything about Italian bureaucracy?

Is it just me or does this season suck. No more epic battles, just lots of bitching from riders on bikes they can't seem to get setup. Rossi fries his tires every other round, Hayden looks like he's riding a tricycle. Honda built a bike for their horse jockey and no one else can ride it (think Melandri). Suzuki is barely better than last year despite the preseason hype.

On a positive note......Capirossi's helmet was badass.

it was a very interesting race, from start to finish. I enjoyed it.

I was well impressed by Rossi, i thought he'd be smoked by the dukes on the straight, but i was wrong. Impressed by Pedro as well, especially at how fast the hondas were. Much faster than the yamaha. Great job for Barros getting third. I like the statement he made for bbc2:"i hope ducati wont be pissed off with me getting third"
<

Casey rode good today, cant complain the guy he is still in the lead for the championship.

Looking forward to catalunya.

BTW did anyone watch the 250cc race, i watched some HL and bautista knocked of lorenzo in the last lap, man he was MAD after that.

First of all, I'm glad we're all back!!
<

Good race, although 125s and 250s were way more interesting. Great ride from Rossi. And funny helmet! I wish Loris finished on podium. Great atmosphere.

I was mad (and sad) yesterday because Eurosport didn't air qualifications. And today my dual audio didn't work, so I missed Toby, Julian and Randy
