Motogp: 2016 Round 4 Gran Premio Red Bull de España

If one is enraptured by all things Rossi as some of the riders seemed to be after Sepang (MotoGP and elsewhere - remember some of the tweets), it may well seem an interesting proposition to be part of a team that contains Rossi for a number of reasons, not least being in the same team as your 'hero' (do not like that word for sports people)

It should also be said that whilst many of us have a decidedly non-yellow tinge near all of us will admit that the guy can ride and thus being part of the same team will have tremendous learning opportunities as no matter how long he has been in the game, he does a lot of stuff right in terms of bike setup etc.

With this of course is the opportunity to forge a 'name' for yourself which may result in procuring additional sponsors who cannot afford Rossi but want to be associated with him, and by sharing the shed the opportunity may come cheaper. Plus, when he retires in 2032 you may get some of his sponsors.

On the down side, that if you start to beat him you will be ostracised by millions of yellow adoring fans

IMO only, but if you are young and not yet established in MotoGP, it is a worthy risk

BTW, where you FIFO'ing?

Mackay Queensland, then into the Bowen Basin, although not for much longer, just landed another job in hydro power plants in NZ.

You can not compare era so easily. Different bikes, different power, different tires, different grip and different tracks. I wasn't around in the 60's but I've read enough to know this current modern era has been the most competitive of all time. The Ducati experiment is meaningless, the bike was in a steady state of decline even in the hands of your hero Stoner. As for who is the GOAT, Jorge, a man you have very high regard for says it's Valentino Rossi. Would you like for me to replay his comments?
A man you despise and whom you regard as having lied and cheated in stealing a title from Valentino in 2015? There goes that thing about having it both ways again. Doohan also said something similar. Kenny Roberts junior, another world champion, said Stoner was the best rider since his father; I don't believe him either even though it suits my fan bias.

I also wonder if Doohan, and particularly Jorge, would say the same thing now, and I think we will all be in for a long wait to hear him repeat that statement after he retires. Mike Hailwood also died before Jorge was born. Certainly I can't imagine Hailwood behaving as Rossi did late last year, said behaviour being what has really coloured my view of Rossi. And if that is irrelevant then Ago is still the GOAT by the numbers, and the 8th title for Yamaha which gives him the numbers was actually in the full modern era with the Japanese involved and due to him managing to beat the young chargers in the twilight of his career at age 33, when his reflexes must have been shot by your previous argument.

On the same tires, Lorenzo is Rossi's superior.

Hiya gramps. ;)

Perhaps he is on certain tracks and certain days. I suspect the difference is not as much as you probably believe.

Not going to get into this debate again, it's been beaten to death. Jorge was never the villain, the villain was always MM who deliberate interfered with a championship he wasn't involved in because he couldn't handle having his ... handed to him in Argentina and Assen and wanted to make sure VR did not win it. As for reflexes, you are mistaking me for other poster. Comparing era's is useless. Ago is the GOAT according to numbers but I suspect the competition in the modern VR era is much higher.

Exactly why calling anyone the GOAT, an Americanism not relevant to GP bike racing in the first place and a term you chose to employ, is nonsensical.

And the events of late season 2015 is the debate, in which again you have made the choice to re-engage.

Geez, you are a miserable human being with a huge ego complex. I can't envision you having even one friend. Are you even married??

Ego complex? Seriously Sigmund?

I've met people like this from time to time. Inarticulate, ham-fisted brutes I guess you'd call them. You can hear the lack of thought process in their language as they mangle metaphors and syntax in their blustering haste to jamb their half-formed opinions into the conversation space. Best to just ignore them really.

I would contend that the era surrounding Spencer, Lawson, Sarron, Schwantz, Rainey, Gardner, Lawson, Chili, Doohan (and the others I missed) was likely more competitive that that of today.

Most definitely it was,and a lot more exciting with the smoking 500's and total absence of electronic rider aid's,there used to be more overtakes in 1 lap than in a whole race at some tracks these days,Fast Freddie winning at Silverstone in '85 was the first race i ever attended,[I'm an old ....].

I have not attended many being both lazy and a damn long way from the tracks but have been involved in the local road racing scene (bikes and some car series) in and around NSW for years (stopped a few years back when I moved out here)

I started watching in the days of Hansford (was my favourite and the reason I have always had a soft spot for team green) and can remember sitting watching as Gardner hit Uncini all those years ago ............ mind you, mum on seeing it turned off the tv so I had to sneak it back on.

Give me the old days where personality was used to describe the way the rider rode the bike, not what they tweeted

I started watching in the Sheene/Roberts era of the late 70's/early 80's when Barry Sheene's horrible crashes were all over the TV back in the UK,still the last Brit to win the title in the top class in i think was '77,can't see a British rider ever winning a race again let alone a championship.

there is time in our lifetimes I hope,
I know of a young'un that is red hot and was going to go for the rookies this season, unfortunately he had a highside running in fifth in the CEV junior world champs at Valencia last weekend and broke his wrist, That's put an end to it for this season but I will stake my house he will do it,
That's if you class our northern neighbours as British ;)

True and I fear that we may be waiting a while for the next Aussie champion as well (I like Miller and believe that he can win races, he has the ability but championships are sadly not likely)

That said though, it is cyclical although you Brits have been waiting a long while so far, I suppose at least there is still WSBK (us Aussies can't even say we have a decent chance there anymore)

I couldn't fathom it when Jack Miller was brought into the big class straight from Moto 3, imo he will always be learning things that would come more naturally to a rider who has been through Moto 2 , thus putting him at a disadvantage. As for British hopes, I can't see how a kid would progress like his Spanish or Italian counterpart when we just don't have any decent national championships.

I don't question that actually, I fully support a rider taking the opportunity and in reality there is no reason why jumping Moto2 is a bad thing, and actually may well be a good thing

That said, I am more concerned that he is not seemingly on anything like competitive machinery but I have been impressed from time to time with his speed, he just needs to manage his race better and stay upright, but I simply do not see championship (and I hope to be proven wrong)

Stoner's obviously missing racing. How about similarly trying to coax a few riders out of retirement Gaz? I have one or two suggestions.
