Motogp: 2016 Round 4 Gran Premio Red Bull de España

Actually , Jorge is a very nice

Agreed, I met him on the day of champions at Valencia, he signed a shirt for me and chatted for a bit, had loads of time for the fans etc, very different to the chap you see in interviews!

Looking good so far for Jorge.
Not looking good for next year's prospects though.

Viñalez on the new chassis.
A.Espargaro on the old chassis.

(For posterity)

Just watched FP2 and i'm getting totally sick of those ........ commentators and their continual hero worship for the supposed GOAT,when discussing the will he or won't he? Vinales move to Yamaha they seem convinced that the greatest attraction in the move for Vinales is quote: 'The chance to ride with Valentino Rossi',not the chance to ride a great title winning bike for a great team, that seems to be secondary to these ......s,i've started to watch with the sound off, what planet are these ..... on?.

It isn't the 'supposed' GOAT, he is the GOAT. I know it eats you up inside. The record speaks for itself. Just ask Jorge who's the greatest of all time.....

I think Budoist's thread starter said it all, as is often the case.

I never have the sound on in practice, even the timing etc runs many seconds behind the live timing on the GP site, and the commentary much longer behind.

If Vinales goes to Yamaha because Rossi is his hero (obviously that would far supervene any other reason for going there, such as Yamaha riders having won 17 titles), I would suggest he ask Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez how him being your hero works out if you start beating him.

Not another one,it doesn't eat me up inside mate, it's just incredibly sad, i stopped hero worshipping others when i was about 12.

He is certainly one of the greatest riders of all time, and I believe would have been unchallenged as GOAT even by anyone on here (for what it is worth being so dubbed, which is not much, it being terminology coined in mainstream american sports, which GP bike racing hardly qualifies as being) had he retired after the 7th title win in 2009.

How is he the unquestioned GOAT now though, after the Ducati adventure in particular?. He doesn't have as many titles or total race wins as Agostini, which he himself definitely seems to feel is a lack even though virtually no-one would rate Ago his superior, and he hasn't shown he can overcome a difficult bike like the great Mike Hailwood. I think Eddie Lawson comes into it as well, who won a world title on a man-killing Honda in addition to his 3 Yamaha titles, and also won a race for a third marque, Cagiva, which never reached anything like the level Ducati has managed.

You can not compare era so easily. Different bikes, different power, different tires, different grip and different tracks. I wasn't around in the 60's but I've read enough to know this current modern era has been the most competitive of all time. The Ducati experiment is meaningless, the bike was in a steady state of decline even in the hands of your hero Stoner. As for who is the GOAT, Jorge, a man you have very high regard for says it's Valentino Rossi. Would you like for me to replay his comments?

But his record is not the most race wins, the most championship so if it is results on which the GOAT is based, he is second loser to Agostini at present

So he is the GOAT based on your criteria which makes it an opinion, yes?

The Ducati experiment is actually very indicative and very meaningful as it demonstrated what can happen when all does not align and he and his support team were found wanting. It should also not be forgotten by yourself that VR started riding the VERY Ducati that had won 3 of the last 6 races in 2010 with 2 further podiums on the first day of testing so it was not in the decline that the performances of 2011 displayed (albeit there was a downward slide from the heady year of 2007).

Anyway, regardless of who thinks who is the greatest rider of all time,my point was why would anyone think being Rossi's team mate should be the driving factor in taking the Yamaha ride?,do they think he's going to help his new team mate beat him,he's more likely to want the wall putting back up in the garage if the newcomer starts to hand him his ... not help him out.

If one is enraptured by all things Rossi as some of the riders seemed to be after Sepang (MotoGP and elsewhere - remember some of the tweets), it may well seem an interesting proposition to be part of a team that contains Rossi for a number of reasons, not least being in the same team as your 'hero' (do not like that word for sports people)

It should also be said that whilst many of us have a decidedly non-yellow tinge near all of us will admit that the guy can ride and thus being part of the same team will have tremendous learning opportunities as no matter how long he has been in the game, he does a lot of stuff right in terms of bike setup etc.

With this of course is the opportunity to forge a 'name' for yourself which may result in procuring additional sponsors who cannot afford Rossi but want to be associated with him, and by sharing the shed the opportunity may come cheaper. Plus, when he retires in 2032 you may get some of his sponsors.

On the down side, that if you start to beat him you will be ostracised by millions of yellow adoring fans

IMO only, but if you are young and not yet established in MotoGP, it is a worthy risk

BTW, where you FIFO'ing?

On the same tires, Lorenzo is Rossi's superior.
