Lorenzo/s lost a finger............

Baylis had a similar injury a few years back at the British round of SBK. His response to the injury is pretty bad .... He had the doctor cut the flesh off and sew it up, he had a race the next day!

Crashed at Coppice in race one and also cracked a testicle open like a walnut. still wanted to go out in race two!!!

Yesterday i saw a long interview of Spanish tv with Lorenzo, but i couldn't understand anything. Does anyone know what the finale operation was about ? If he lost some or all of his ring finger for good or if they could put the whole finger together. I hope so.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the plastic surgeon managed to reattach everything and re-connect nerves etc so there should be no long-term effects - except he'll probably have a really ugly scar. Better than losing it.

TVE had a pre race interview with Lorenzo on Sunday. He was in Barcelona and TVE sent a broadcast crew to his house for the interview. Lorenzo said they removed the last phalange of his ring finger. So instead of having 3 sections to the finger, he only has 2. Like Baylis's if I'm not mistaken. He'll have nearly full use of the finger. Should only hamper him in picking his nose, but most people don't use this finger for that, so he should be alright!

Thanks for your replies Bikergirl and baturro.

I was hoping/expecting the doctors to reattach the cut pieces, but it seems like they haven't been able then. Though the most important thing is that he will have the feeling in the remain of that finger.

Reading the medical reports it seems some of the distal phalanx was actually ground down. They re-attached the tendon so that the remainder of the finger will be fully functional, and are hopeful he will have normal sensation as well.

He could have a quite functional hand without that finger in any case, the thumb and the index finger are the really important ones.

I know he will be able to live and race without that finger, but i think it may affect him mentally as he has lost a little part of his, though he looked mentally al right in his interview yesterday.

He'll be fine, physically and mentally.

Hell I remember when Roger Lee lost a good chunk of his little finger, and the Hayden boys did nothing but give him .... about it.
