06 was a very competitive year, there were several winners and those who didn't win were close podium finishers. Very similar to what we have so far (with the exception of the close finishes). Four men have won races and the other winners have been on the podium as there were multiple winners in 06. If I recall, Hayden made the podium for the first handful of races straight. Similar again to what Pedrosa, Lorenzo, Rossi have done so far. The current champ, Casey has suffered a virtual DNF, but has the pace to be a contender any weekend. One of these four will surface as the winner, will we then get those on here shitting on Hayden saying that the 08 winners did it by attrition?
The fact is they changed the bike dramatically, is it any wonder that the top four guys were all successful in 250s? Hayden has made many adjustments to his style but so far it hasn’t been good enough, and add to that the bad luck (that so many use to boohoo the other guys results). Now we have guys who are 250 champs like Capi & Melandri who haven't faired so well, if anybody would be crapped on for not getting on with the 250 style of things, I would think it them.
Truth is he has adapted, but it’s a lot to catch up to guys who were practically raised on the style required after the rules change. The only one really able to be successful from 500, 990, and 800s is Rossi. Stoner had an epiphany from the change to 800s, Peders bike was molded from the same innate materials as his robotic core when they crafted the 800, and Lorenzo basically just upgraded his engine.
