Cal: down the duke drain.

The past several years have seen rules changed to insert riders into factory teams, CEO of the whole show insert golden eggs back into winning teams, massive influx of single nationality riders, a 2 time WC leave the sport due way to early due to discontent with the direction, a general feeling of contrived racing where only a few bikes can ever win.

Then comes along a guy who has entered the sport through an alternative route. A guy from an alternative back ground from the normal "racers". A guy who has applied himself and with courage has worked his way to the front of the field often beating silver spoon riders on better equipment and always beating the other guy on the same equipment. A guy who is fighting for what is deservedly his yet being given away to someone who arguably deserves it less but has the correct nationality.

And the fans deride him for being vocal whilst trying to swim against the current, that we all hate, and make it to the pinnacle. What has become of the fans?

Easy there.

I like Cal, but he didn't beat Dovi last year and the year before he barely edged CA for rookie of the year honors who was on a crappy Sat Duc.

I agree with the general sentiment of your post. I really like Cal and hope he'll do ok on the Duc. As for the supposed bitching and moaning, it doesn't upset me, and I think a few people are (once again) critizing one rider for the same behavior that does not appear to be a problem for other riders. I also would have rather seen him on factory Yamaha than Rossi, not just because I'm a 'hater', but first and foremost because I think he was more deserving of the seat.

However, Dovi was even more deserving, having beaten both Cal and Rossi in the standings. Also, I think it's a bit ironic to bring nationality into it. I don't think him ending up on the best sattelite bike out there on the back of a WSS championship was entirely unrelated to 1) Toseland's departure 2) BBC's tv coverage 3) Bradley Smith still being to young and unaccomplished to make the move to Motogp.

Good post, StIEfel.

My major reason for not wanting Cal to go to Ducati is that we'll lose a proven podium contender. There's far too few of those...I don't doubt that Aleix will get there, but on the other hand it might take him some time.

Root cause of issue: Not enough competitive bikes.... Again.

Thanks. Don't you mean Pol, or did I miss something?

I too think he deserved the M1 more than Rossi and I agree that on last years results so did Dovi. I like Dovi but I think he has peaked. He doesn't seem to have the mentality to push that last 1-2% which is required to win. I believe Cal has it.

You are of course correct about nationality and the push to bring in English riders and I stand corrected.

I always thought it was a bit daft of Cal to start complaining about needing a Spanish passport to get a good bike when he is the token Brit.

If he is on the Ducati, I wish him good luck but I think he will unravel very quickly as a rider when things aren't going his way. Whereas someone like Dovi will keep his head down and keep working at it. Although the Aprilia will probably be winning races before the Ducati...

From Pedant's Corner comes the cry: It is tenterhooks.

I dunno. I think they would be pretty tender... maybe even a drop of inflammation?

From Lin Jarvis:

Jarvis admitted that Crutchlow has shows extremely positive racing this season and everybody knows he's "hot property". While all three mentioned parties are happy with Cal's performance, it's still impossible to offer him a factory seat, as Yamaha's (now) MSMA bikes have Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi secured with two-year contracts.

The Yamaha official also added that there have been discussion involving the factory, the team and the sponsor on one side and Crutchlow's management on the other, and the former have prepared an offer. According to Lin Jarvis, the "problem" could be solved with a financial offer, even if he clearly stated that other teams, such as Ducati, might come up with a better paycheck for the British rider.

You recently said that Yamaha has made a large effort in making an attractive offer for Crutchlow. Can you elaborate?

Normally it means money. Basically, we are ready to do something. I think Cal is very happy with the team and with the bike and is very happy with where he is, but he is a professional rider and at a very important stage of his career.

Now is the time to make money in your career, so the main issue is that we are trying - collectively, from three parties - to see if we can put together an offer that is enough for him to stay.

Are you aware that there are plenty of rivals interested in his services?

Yes, we are pretty aware of that. Two strong alternatives - and maybe both companies have more money than us at the moment, shall we say. We have a situation where Cal has evolved in Tech 3 and, normally, Tech 3 is our team where young or developing riders will come on and then maybe step up into the factory team.

Cal is at the prime moment to step up, but we are full. We have Valentino (Rossi) and Jorge (Lorenzo) on two-year contracts so, right now, we have no place at the Yamaha Factory team. It is a difficult circumstance and on the other side especially Ducati have a different situation, so maybe they have more possibilities.

Everything would be fine if Ezpeleta had not forced Yamaha to take Rossi back. Rossi did not deserve the ride and he has not performed well enough to hold the ride. Yamaha should tell Rossi he will not be offered another contract and sign Crutchlow for 2015.

.... crutch! He was getting his ... handed to by Dovi on the Yam more times than not and he will be getting more of the same on the Duc, let alone deserve Rossis M1

At least Spies is deserving of his current ride Curvy my man

I predict Cal will go to Ducati, then;

1. He will get bested by Dovi (again)

2. He will become frustrated

3. He will voice his frustration often and loudly

4. Ducati with not be amused after having Nicky and Dovi quietly go about their business for several years demonstrating super human patience

5. Cal will continue to bemoan

6. The relationship will sour quickly

7. Someone will tell Cal to stfu because he's only there for the money

8. Cal will cruise for dollars like every Ducati rider save Stoner with no real results

9. Cal will wish desperately that the Tech 3 bike were still available

10. It won't be

11. After two years of being nobody, his results from 2013 will appear much like Nicky's 2006 Championship, ie, largely forgotten and discarded

12. Cal will never again contest for the podium

13. Cal joins Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies, in WSBK

That's all.
