A bit of a cold front just came thru. Yesterday it was in the 80's and today its in the 50's here in miami. Usually its about 10 degrees colder in Daytona. For the SS guys this could be a problem because they are running so early in the morning.

Well that's what it must have been cuz Benny was P11 in Q2. They combined the last two sessions times and officially he qualled P8 with a 0.9 gap. No great but what can you do.

Supersport race starts at 2:15 EST

Pretty good from Benny considering he's riding a Honda. I'm not really sure how Puerta got away (or what happened to Hayden Gillim). Looks like Myers managed to beat Rispoli again. Those two are always within a few tenths of one another.

Does anyone know if Jett Chandler is going to pan out? I've read a lot of hype, but I don't know how old he is or how far he needs to go to be competitive.

Benny was in second until right at the end. Looked good! (at least from the timing)

Yeah, he got draftedwith 2 laps to go and couldn't make it back. 2,3,4 were within 0.04. It was a good race for the podium, the winner checked out. I'm told by JK (who's been going to Daytona several years) that the draft is tricky business. Anyway, I'm hoping tomorrow will bring a win if not at least a podium.

SuperSport Results

I know none of you give a .... about the XR1200 race, but judging from live timing, it must have been exciting. Top 4 at the line withing 0.136!

Oh, btw, how does an Aprilia Mile 1000cc compete in a 600 bone stock class? (Not to mention the 848 Duc). I mean I get it in DSB, since they have more ways of restricting or evening out the field, but in stock-supersport?

Heard the XR1200 race was a barn burner, I hope we get an extended highlight during the race coverage.

I'm also disappointed that they let the Mille and the 848 run in Supersport, but the kids who ride those things are only making it more difficult for them to jump into the higher classes.

What a curtain-raiser to the 2011 season.

I've never really given Young a lot of credit b/c I wasn't sure he "had it", but it looks like Schwantz was right about him. Can't wait to see the race on TV.

Bostrom hit 198mph on the banking
<
What happened to Chris Peris and Eric Bostrom?

Tommy just can't catch a ....... break. Goes in leading with a .174 lead onto bank, comes out 2nd, and 3rd place Young comes out 1st. Well, I like Hayes, but I'm kinda glad he didn't win. RL must have burned up his tires, lead BBos all race until the last couple laps.

Tommy hit 200+ on penultimate lap.

Toye lead Pegram all race then Larry got him at the line. Smart drafting or team orders?

Eric crashed in opening lap. Perhaps Peris got caught up too. Will find out.

I'm pretty sure Toye has been campaigning the Lee's Cycle BMW since last year in various California club races. I think Lee's Cycles has its own development and they don't answer to Foremost insurance. DMG moved away from factory parts and factory teams specifically to eliminate the politics that dominated the old AMA. Last year we had the Graves problem with Herrin and Seller. It would be sad if team orders are determining the race results.

Draft?

Bikes were hitting over 200mph at Daytona back when Jamie James was racing.

Here is the DSB qual press conference. LINK

Its a long read but here is the most moving part of the conference. Big ups to Jake Zemke to have the presence of mind to say the following:

ZEMKE: It's a huge tragedy. It's really hard to put into words, because there's - it seems like it's always something, whether it be earthquakes in Japan, the tsunamis, Haiti, you just keep going down the list. It just seems like every day there's another tragedy going on somewhere in the world. But all we can do is pray for those that are affected by it, and wish the best for those people and those families. It's just really tough to see. We're out here riding motorcycles. We're just having fun. And there's people that deal with a lot more than that.

(Crying) I want to dedicate this pole to my friend Nathan Woods. He passed away. He's a two-time WORCS champion, off-road champion. Winningest rider of their series. Good friend, training partner, riding partner. Left behind a wife and two little kids. This was for him.
