AMA - Road America (Round 6)-----SPOILERS

Soup says Hodgson slowed because he thought the white flag waving atop the flagging stand was a checkered flag, causing him to lose positions.

Why does DMG think it is a good idea to wave flags from an elevated position when riders have their heads down? Do they simply not want a flagger standing on the edge of the track? What if this had happened at Laguna and riders charged over the rise into turn 1 with a slow bike in front of them?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did I see "Doug Polen" in the results? And is this the same Doug Polen that is a world champ? What's he trying to do, get back in the game? Wants to take back his poles record from Spies perhaps?

Two world champs in the field and the old man beat the younger one (yeah yeah, I know he's hurt, still funny.) Polen is like 85 years old and still scores a 13th. Schooling the kids.

An unofficial count have only these riders to have beat Mladin:

Ben Spies
Eric Bostrom
Miguel DuHamel
Jake Zemke
Aaron Yates
Kurtis Roberts

And now:

Josh Hayes & Larry Pegram

So my question, is DMG's plan starting to work?

I said "beat" Mladin not "devastate".

It appears as though Hodgson didn't actually jump the start in Race 1.

Congrats to Pegram by the way. It's been 10 years since his last win.

I think it still has a chance to work, although it better keep producing good races in order to win over fans. I like the idea of a more level playing field, with private teams in the hunt. A grid of factory teams filled out by superstock bikes does not appeal to me any more than DMG's plan.

I feel Daytona Sportbike will have a much harder time winning fan support. The idea was apparently just too out there for bike fans; the "massive" twins, rolling starts, and Buell controversy seemed to cause fans to recoil badly.

I like the idea, minus the "Daytona" part. The potential for diversity could have been a good thing for the class. Sport bikes that aren't necessarily race replicas laid out on a level playing field with the 600s, the potential of seeing the 848, BMW HP2 sport, Aprilia Mille and others in one class is a cool idea. Think of it as supersport with a little more flavor.

Buell starting the season so far out of balance was a huge blow to the concept. I think it obscured the idea of parity-bred variety, instead coming across as a rigged farce.

I just watched the vid of the incident at Road Racing World. In my opinion there was NO BIKE-TO-BIKE contact.

If Yates did hit Young, it was bike to body contact. Imo, Yates was well past Young so I'm inclined to side with Yates in this instance. In the post race interviews, Yates said that Young grabbed too much front brake after trying to ride around the outside.

His account seems accurate since you can see daylight between the two bikes immediately before Young goes down.

If you've passed a rider and you hit his extended knee, it is much different than say Jerez 2005.

Imo, running slightly wide and hitting another rider's outstreched knee is a lot different than if your bike makes contact with his.

Don't you agree?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mylexicon @ Jun 11 2009, 05:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Don't you agree?

Yes, just fing with you. But any contact can disrupt enough to crash. 'Don't you agree'? My point-"contact" can make one crash regardless if its 'bike to bike' or 'bike to rider'.

Looks like a classic motocross block pass in the corner, where you stuff the guy and ride on. Ya it's racing, but not the coolest. That corner is pretty tight, Young didn't have a lot of space to react to that quick dive by Yates, add into that Yates going a little wide. Boink.

Race 2 itself as a whole was good stuff. Best AMA SBK race this year. Bayliss's, I mean Pegram's Ducati has some serious pulling power over the Suzuki. Not taking anything away from Pegram, the guy rode the race of his life, stayed clean and smooth. Great to see him pick up a victory on a team he built up himself, very admirable.

Who's next to beat Maladin this year?

I agree, he rode a flawless race. I was impressed in his postrace podium interview, the guy looked like he was in tears. Nice to see him turn away from Greg-.......-White to give props to his family and team.
