Espargaro considering retirement, test rider role.

Espargaro considering Aprilia test rider role, but MotoGP future still open

The Pramac/Ducati saga rolls on, looking increasingly likely that VR46 will be the primary satellite team next yr, with one factory bike (the other presumably going to Gresini)

Ducati “open to possibilities” with VR46 and Pramac’s “relationship strained”

Gresini are contracted with Ducati until the end of 2025, but apparently have a release clause if a rival manufacturer wishes to pay a fee.

Revealed: Release clause in Gresini’s contract with Ducati

I doubt Yamaha would apprach them unless they are desperate? Especially as Yamaha have a 'No Marquez will ride our brand' rule.

Obvious, but Marc Marquez has stayed 'he is keeping all options open' for 2025.

Marc Marquez drops first clue that he could leave Gresini
Not that Marquez would go to Yamaha given the current state of their bike but the no Marquez rule may end with Lin Jarvis.
ETA: It is a really strange rule given that their rider won the championship that year.

And that the rider with the grievance on behalf of whom they promulgated the ban heads a team running Ducatis and reputedly intends to keep doing so despite offers from Yamaha. He is their brand ambassador though.

I have never really understood why Valentino’s 4 Yamaha victories exalt him so far above the 4 great riders who won 3 titles for them, including the guy who actually won the 2015 title. I personally consider Lawson in particular to be able to stand comparison with pretty much any other rider.

Perhaps ironically Rossi’s superior status would appear to depend on the 3 titles he won on a Honda.

Pretty funny rule at the moment. It is not like either of them are in any way keen to ride the POS. 😆

It appears that how good the bike is will largely determine who MM rides for next year, he isn’t interested in the $

It makes me almost angry how comical this is. If I were Yamaha I would say "If you want to be the brand ambassador, you run our bikes. If not, you lose both"

I hate to say it but unfortunately the biggest loser in that scenario would be Yamaha. The Taylor Swift of motorcycles most certainly helps Yamaha sales just but smiling and waving wearing a yamaha t-shirt.

You're right. I suppose I just wish Yamaha would grow some balls.

They'll be releasing bikes like this in 50 years and still somehow adding 'VR46' to them,

Yamaha needs a satellite team that they can control, that way they can use the data from 4 bikes for future developments. That has been the biggest advantage that Ducati and KTM have had the last few season, and they are miles ahead of Yamaha and Honda.

In Pramacs case, their partnership with Ducati really helped them as a team, but I do get the sense that Pramac would like some of their own control back.

Again, this is Crash.net, but they are reporting that Gresini moving to Yamaha for 2025 is 'taken for granted'

Astonishing twist as Yamaha tipped to acquire Gresini

This also ties in to Marc Marquez' latest comments that he wants a factory bike for 2025

Marc Marquez tells Ducati his No1 desire to sort his 2025 future

IF the above is true, then it looks like Pramac and VR46 would each have one GP25 and one GP24. Marquez will not follow Gresini to Yamaha, and I assume that means Alex M may need to find a seat too unless Gresini insist he stays? (Referring to Yamaha's stupid 'No Marquez will ride a Yamaha' rule).

With that being the case, would Marc take a factory bike at Pramac? Or will he insist on a Full factory bike?

What must happen for Joe Roberts to be in MotoGP in 2025 you think? Seems to me it´s now or never for him.

Can you elaborate on that?
At bit out of my area of armchair expertise. The USA is a huge market for which MotoGP has low penetration and now the MotoGP owner is a US focused company. Add to that there been a US owned team there should be more influence to bring in US companies to market themselves and having a US rider to sponsor will be more attractive than sponsoring a European rider as the US rider will be more suited to advertise their products

He needs race wins first and foremost imo.
Start beating Aldeguer, who is going there already, and he puts himself right into the picture.
I would rather see the fastest riders selected. Not selected on the basis of nationality, at least in part.
Yes that is not the way it has always worked though.

Typically it takes a championship to move up to MotoGP, or a solid runner up. However I wouldnt be surprised if Trackhouse gives him a look.
Sponsorship
True, If he had a major backer, or sponsor, willing to put up the funds (buy him a ride) he could buy his way onto a bike. I am a bit baffled that he doesn't have a team around him building his brand and helping with his PR. I wonder if he gets any help from the AMA at all or anyone associated with the motorcycle industry in the USA.

I think for VR's fanbase the 4 is about numbers more than anything else just as 10 was double digits instead of 9. I mean honestly, I don't mean to sound crass on this, but who is say Wayne Rainey to the VR fanbase other than some American in a wheelchair that happened to win a few titles for Yamaha way back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth? Knowing motorcycle racing history himself, rather ironic his fanbase seems to have little of that knowledge, he'd never push for the position, but he doesn't exactly dissuade any from thinking that strength lies in numbers. Amongst a gaggle of idiots, the bigger the number, the more seemingly impressive it becomes to them, hence why a segment of America's population remains infatuated with Trump...one that taught the idiots of society big numbers mean better. When bigger is better, 4 is 1 more than King Kenny, Steady Eddie, Wayne and that damn Majorcan could ever muster up. Plus it was 1 more than he won at that ungrateful place known as Honda. But the nice thing about 9 is that it evenly divides with 3 at the end of the day.

Several wins and Top 3 in the championship. His passport alone won't get him there.
He's likeable and I'm rooting for him but a Jake Dixon 2023 season won't be enough. When it takes someone seven full seasons to get to the top in Moto2 it's difficult to consider them a major talent.

Joe did alright there. P2 after starting 11th on the grid I think. Leading the championship by 5 points.
Aldeguer has come good too though.
