Nice GP overall, with plenty of action, and several distinct acts, as the riders ebbed and flowed based upon their setup decisions. The big news is that Quartararo managed to extend the gap over Espargaro, despite the long lap penalty. Unfortunate for Aleix that he had such a terrible high side, especially after a long break, but he did incredibly well to lose just 1 point to Quartararo. Fabio missed an opportunity, though it's difficult to criticize him for gaining points during a round in which he served a long lap penalty.
Zarco looked strong and comfortable at the front. His front end wash was totally unexpected, though the official GP feed attributed Zarco's crash to his last minute decision to use a medium front tire. When Rins hit the front, it looked like the fans might be treated to a Suzuki victory, which is rare enough to warrant the ticket price, even if you're not a Suzuki fan. When Bagnaia eased past Miller, it was clear that Rins would be receiving a visitor in a few laps, though there was an outside change that the Suzuki might hold on, since the bike is quite easy on tires. Miller had a good race, but a strange race. He must surely be happy to be back on the rostrum, but people were making moves all around him, but he seemed to be glued to third place for about 1/2 race distance. Jack probably benefited from Basitanini losing the right front wing on the first lap, but they both had a solid ride.
Biggest winner and biggest loser were the same person, and there were 3 candidates, imo. Mav was the biggest winner because he scored his second podium on the bounce. He was also the biggest loser because he had race winning pace, but struggled off the line, and then struggled to get by Fabio after the long lap penalty. You could also argue that Quartararo should take home both awards since he extended his championship lead despite the long lap penalty, but also faded and struggled late in the race, potentially due to the Yamaha's lack of grunt. An argument could also be made that Bastianini should hold both honors since he finished 4th on a one-winged bike, which suggests a better qualifying, better start, and better race craft on lap one could have seen him on top of the podium.
Anyway, solid race. We need more fast tracks on the calendar. Bring back Monza.
