Márquez is back. Let's hope it's the right decision. Should be exciting to see if he can dominate in his circuit with a bike completely different to what he's used to.

As long as the .... michelin tires work, he should be fine.

A bike he is unused to and you would expect an understanding it would be best to avoid further head knocks just now.
Will be interesting to see how restrained he is and how fast he is.

Marquez either wins or finishes outside the top 10.
He'll crash 4 times over the weekend either way and I will find a way to blame his approach on the conniving french connection. Degenerates, I tell you.

On a bicycle is the only way we'd keep up with him.
I'd try anyway. I do 10 hours a week on the roadie.

Hoping he chills a bit at COTA.
I want to see more.

Austin has a few decent story lines going. Marquez return is interesting. MotoGP has also featured 9 different riders on the rostrum. Who will be the first repeat?

Championship is still up for grabs. If KTM have a good showing, Binder could be leading. That would be a bit crazy.

I think the championship is wide open. It’s a long season and most of it lies ahead.

Candidates for taking it include Marc Marquez.

Tires, hmmm. At least everybody has access to the same ones. Nobody will be able to blame the tires. If they do they are delusional. It’s up to each team to adapt to the tires brought to the race. Bike design is subject to real world conditions. Ask Ducati.

Looks as if the weather is going to cooperate and the track should be good as well.

"With the Grand Prix of the Americas taking place on April 10, 2022, FIM Safety Officer and former 500cc Grand Prix champion Franco Uncini traveled to the Texas track to confirm the results. Uncini not only inspected the track on foot but also piloted a production Honda sportbike around the 3.4-mile course.

"How wonderful it is to ride a motorcycle around the GP circuit in Austin," exclaimed Uncini. “I inspected the route with the motorbike!”"

Rins and Viñales top FP1

Both riders were using the session end as a pre-qualifying. Everyone else was just doing routine FP work.

Miller in 3rd. M Marquez not able to turn up the wick without getting out of shape. P Espargaro somehow chucked his bike down the road at high speed several minutes after the session was over. Weird.

Honda seems to have miscalculated with the design of that bike…..again.

Neither factory rider seemed to be able to put together a reliable drama free fast lap…..

For now.

Of course it’s way early in the weekend.

He also went down at T18 very early on. From the onboard shot, it appeared he went over a bump at a good lean angle and lost it.

Track still looks pretty wicked to me. They talked to Petrux and he said it's still a bit bumpy and not much grip. Need to get some rubber down.

Ducati have taken control in FP2.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Marquez. If he’s not careful, tomorrow could be the end of his career if he’s not careful. The RC is loose but not fast. Formula for disaster if Marc tries too hard. However, he’s one of the all time greats so maybe he unleashes a lap for the ages in QP.

I haven't watched it yet but in FP1 I don't recall even seeing Bagnaia on screen. And what's going on with Olivera and KTM in general? They were nowhere. I think Binder managed 12th at the end.

Pecco has not made an impact. Miller and Zarco are doing the heavy lifting.

IIRC, KTM works better on high grip circuits, mostly in Europe. COTa is low grip and the tire allocation doesn’t appear to suit the KTM. Maybe they know some of the compounds will work better and they are holding them back?
