Marquez pace is scary. His fastest time came on lap 15 of a medium rear and never tried the soft in fp2. I want to see Marquez keep clearing off until Carmelo and Mike Webb beg him to bring the excitement back.Lets face it, the last five years and a handful of races this year, the kid is the focal point of about 90% of the excitement and discussion of the sport. The Honda looks like a beast, performs well on all tracks and conditions and doesn’t eat tires. Yamaha’s supposed breakthrough in electronics still appears to be lagging as they are spinning it up once again when the track temps rise. The Ducati seems to have just held serve with no huge advancement over last year and I suspect Suzuki has hit a developmental wall . The only thing stopping this from being a route already is a mental mistake. I think Marc grabs the lead this weekend and never looks back.

Marc.s biggest competitor is now himself. I still think he'll clear off, but he'll have to temper his efforts or he'll be having the occasional crash ..... during a race.

Like Mick Doohan. The year in which he won the record number of races until surpassed by MM in 2014 he would have had 1 more win had he not crashed out of the PI race 10 seconds in the lead fairly late in the race.

For MM, perhaps like Doohan in that race, the risk of crashing out is probably higher when being completely dominant than in a close battle. I tend to agree he nearly crashed out of Valencia last year because he was riding for points and position rather than pushing hard.

With a fire underneath him and a point to prove. We could witness the largest points haul in GP history. I just checked the wiki and Lorenzo is the lead in this particular category with 383.

It's still early but with the pace Marquez showed in the first 4 weekends I just get the feeling that it's already becoming a battle for second in the championship.

I just get the feeling that if its to be a record margin, he should have been in front by a decent amount already.

You have to remember Dovi is actually leading atm.

That could change soon. :D

Sure, but only because Marquez was penalised in Argentina, if he doesn't stall at the start he would be 25 points in front right now. As you said it could change this weekend. The issue with betting on Ducati right now is IMO that there is still tracks where they and Dovi struggle and haemorrhage points to Marquez and Honda who seem to have no real weak(relative to the rest of the field) tracks.

IMO Marquez won in 2016&2017 because he was far more consistent than anyone else and with the better bike this year it's hard to imagine that changing.

That penalty and being a criminal condemned by Rossi and liable to further penalties will stop him achieving a record margin.

What really should have happened at Argentina is that Jack Miller should have won with MM a comfortable second. He might still have won if Jack had worn his tires out even with a substantial lead.

The whole situation at Argentina, including MM’s initial penalty arose because Dorna were making it up as they went, as is their wont, with the TV audience in mind.

If start procedure happened as dictated in rules, the field minus miller would have changed tyres either end of lap one or two. Miller would have had a considerable margin. Marquez with his pace shown may have caught him. Actually I think he would have caught him. Miller with such a margin would have backed off, making it all the easier for marc.

All hypothesis though.

Regardless MM would be leading championship.

Good point on the penalty.

Riders are entitled to change their bike and start the warm up lap from pit lane rejoining at the rear of the grid before the start. Which is essentially what happened, however the rules don't allow for everyone on the field bar one rider changing before the warm up lap and race direction did the best they could according to the rules.

A quick amendment to the rules screwed Miller from a 40second plus lead. Of which only Marquez was capable of overcoming.

I'm not sure what amendment you're talking about. Going by the rules riders are allowed to change their bikes before the warm up lap, start the warm up lap from pit lane and join the back of the grid. Forcing riders to change tyres once the eve had already started despite them wishing to change tyres before the warm up lap or even after the warm up lap would've been not allowing the riders to follow the rules. That actually would've been making up the rules as they go along.

Looks like Honda is on for a good weekend! Cal looks pretty fast and like he might be a challenger for Marc tomorrow - in Cal's head, he's already lifted the trophy and drunk the champagne ;)

:D

Maybe Cal has to operate like that though to get results.

We share 50% of our dna with the banana but that doesn't mean we should allow them to post on the forum.

I've always wondered why my skin changes colour in the winter, it looks like I have really bad jaundice :(

Errr, you lost me there.
