Ah, I would have but I know nothing about the man. All I've heard is he won the SuperStock championship (is that correct?). We don't get any of that kind of coverage around here.

I wonder what it would be like if Spies hadn't had a 16th, two DNFs, and a 15th.

Forget the previous DNF, how about just not running out of gas while leading the race into the last turn. Damn, talk about bad luck. Two of his virtual DNFs (Qatar/Monza) have been of NO-fault of his own. Take those two out and the championship is tight.

Believe it or not, its a team sport. I have a question, were they allowed to replace the gas after the red flag to compensate for that first lap?

Race one was immense - Fabrizio waving at spies was pure class! Love it

It's a simple diagram that I knocked out in about 5 minutes, but after watching the races yesterday, this is what I initially thought could be done.

The new entrance would be slighter wider, and a bit faster (which would actually be better, as it would cause slightly less of a bottleneck, I think)

James Haydon was pumping for something similar whilst commentating with Jack Bumknuckle on Eurosport.Happens almost every year, time to change things.AND Cal Crutchlow you need to learn to glance back now and then, well done though.

Or it might just cause them to hit one another at higher speeds.

Don't get me wrong, I think they should modify the chicane like you depict but will racers be smart enough to realize it was installed for safety not so they can wedge it up the inside while going even faster?

BTW if you slide you changes forward a few meters you can install them on the inside of the chicane and use less new pavement.

What!? You're actually commenting on racing now? Hahaha, good to see you actually watch the races, I was beginning to think you had lost your passion.

The wave was fun only because he got passed back. I was sitting with a few friends who started yelling obscenity at the screen when he did that. Fabi is an ... but I suppose he had the last laugh in race 1 though, eh.

I didn’t know much about Fabi before this year, I just figured he was a token Italian on the team. But I’ve been impressed with his quals and now a race winner (abiet somewhat of a gift, but that’s racing as they say).

Well he (Fabi) said he was more impressed with the Yamaha than he was with Spies, so I suppose his impressive race performance begs the question, just how good is that Ducati, eh?

I'd love to hear Arabbi's take on the wave though.

Agree, with safe run off/stretches of asphalt and astroturf deployed on either side.

Actually on reflection, this would not be dissimilar to the chicane at the end of the Courbe Dunlop straight at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit. This causes similar first lap problems every year in Moto GP, though not on the same scale as witnessed each year at the Retifillo chicane. Usually the 125's come to grief due to the size of the field, and the inherent lunatic factor, but I can recall several incidents in the Moto GP class over the years. Didn't Vale skittle RDP here on lap one in '06?

Maybe they should have a 'rolling start' eh Lex.

BTW, did you hear the commentators when they mentioned Zemke's duties in the AMA? One of the commentators said Zemke wasn't familiar with a "superbike" since he was running a 600, and the other guy says; well he's in "supersport". Then the other guys says, well NOT really, its "daytona sportbike" or whatever.

Haha, even the international community knows Daytona
Sportbike is a joke and our "superbikes" are more akin to "superSTOCK".

Everyone is so obsessed with their image. They'd rather destroy what they have than admit they can't afford the upkeep on the facade.

Edmondson is doing the work that only a man who cares little for his image can do.

Who cares what other people think, you're going to let them shame you into an early grave.

What a compliment. Is that why you love Rush Limpballs?

You give the guy kudos for doing this dyno test in secret that would make .... Chain proud and we suppose to applaud him for it? ...., its not like most everybody saw right through the farce. What you consider "work" is a man who's hand has been forced to make adjustments from his radical push for nascarization since the very beginning. You are easily fooled, but that is not anything new.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Who cares what other people think

Because they may know what they are talking about. Unlike Roger who doesn't and still decides to follow his own agenda. What you consider "work" was Roger backing down from his original proposals once he saw that everybody who knows was saying 'you are fing crazy'. If he was so confident in the rules he would have enforced them from the beginning. He didn't. Now he does this dyno test surely in hopes to spin the results if they were favorable, looks like they are not, so the weight is added. He's come back to what people already had known, but being the arrogant ......., he did NOT listen to what they thought.

Never taken to the guy, because amongst other things, I don't think he's earned his ride owing to the Tardozzi connection. Like I say, he used to call himself 'The Wizard' because of his supposed ability to pull stuff out of the bag, - which is a bit of an illusion when you've yet to perform any genuine magic out on track, besides, I've always regarded him as a bit of a one trick pony. He's only fast at a few circuits (Brno was one), but the added kick in the ... that the 1198 clearly delivers can turn even a mule like Michael into a consistent charger at the front. I think he calls himself 'The Hurricane' these days, but the 'Texas Tornado' has a worthy successor in the form of Spies who I'm delighted to say, breezed by and blew him away in Race 2. Fabi is notoriously hot headed, and has always struck me as an arrogant ........ on top of that, he's Biaggi's mate...(or he was until they collected each other at Misano as I recall). Fogarty got away with the braggadocio, because he also did his talking on the track - I don't think Fabrzio is anywhere near championship material, and he'll never find himself with a better ride than the one he has now.

The wave was a bit old hat I thought, Ben should have flicked him the bird ala Rossi, Foggy or Sheene, but that's not his style. Instead he responded with a potential double race win - Fabrizio being fragile inside will dwell on the fact that Ben got the better of him in race 1 and ran away with race two at one of his favorite circuits....which is a bit of an 'up yours' in itself. There'll be plenty more in his direction where that came from.

You didn't disappoint.

I've read many of your post, and many have reminded me of this quote:

But they showed no corrections of any kind. Not one. He had simply written down music already finished in his head. Page after page of it as if he were just taking dictation. And music, finished as no music is ever finished. Displace one note and there would be diminishment. Displace one phrase and the structure would fall.

Salieri commenting on the originals of music written by Mozart which were unblemished by error, he couldn't believe the the music sheets were no copies but rather the first draft and simply perfect.

Ah... "He gave me that longing... and then made me mute. Why? Tell me that. ...why implant the desire? And then deny me the talent? "

Whilst one can wonder about Fabrizio and whether he is deserving of a ride or one can question his personality, I personally found his post race comments both humbling and classy.

Michel Fabrizio (Race 1 – winner, Race 2 – 2nd)

“I am so happy with today’s results. It’s gone well all weekend so I knew I had the chance to fight for the win and at last I’ve done it! Mid way through race 1 I was having trouble with the gears, especially when Ben passed me, but I didn’t give up and fought till the end. It’s a shame for Ben that the race finished as it did because it makes mine a bit of a false win but I’m very pleased of course. Race 2? Well Ben deserved the win in the first race so I’m pleased he took it instead in Race 2. I had to ride the second bike in Race 2 and for some reason I found it tricky at the start, I didn’t have a great feeling and couldn’t push but after a few laps I just concentrated on reaching the podium again and then it became easier. I thank my whole team for giving me such a fantastic bike this weekend. The double win I’ll leave for the next race!”

Nice, glad to see more of him.. so often all us americans get to see is them behind their helmets, and occasionally the 5 second interview, and of course that's not all that enlightening if they don't speak english semi-natively. Anyway, I wasn't mad he got the win, in this sport .... happens, and he's been looking for it for so long.. Plus, because I'm cheering for Spies, it gave me another WSBK rollercoaster.. just like every other week.. I'm lovin it.

Think of an event that has taken place in the last 5 months that has allowed the radicals to take over Pakistan and the Taliban to get a foothold again in Afghanistan. I will give you a hint,it rhymes with Osama.

Barack Hussein O'Drama?

The crazy part is,the weight was added back [not really, they were never at 365] before Barber and the suprise Dyno test.

Just to clarify, the 16th place was Phillip Island Race 1 (went off the circuit twice), the first DNF was Valencia Race 1, the second DNF was Assen Race 2, and the 15th place was Monza Race 1 (ran out of fuel).

Like you said though, how different would the championship be without them.
