Superpole was great today. First off, love the new markings on the special Quali tire. Easy to tell who is on Quali's so long as the camera catches a shot of it. I watched Sykes put 3 solid laps on a quali tire. Was Haslam or Stiggy having issues?

Lots of drama today too, I was worried Haga wouldn't make it into the final round, he barely made it. Spies snatching the pole away from Fabrizio, how many in a row is that now? Spies still had both Quali tires in the last session of Superpole. Kiyo and Max N are going to be right up there tomorrow.

Hoping we have some good races tomorrow.

race 1 red flagged 4 bikes down at the stupid first corner/chicane and 2 caught fire.think it was corser.hill.tamada.and max Neukirchner

Looks like the field is pretty tight and lots of guys were having trouble running the optimal line. I hope nothing stupid happens at the chicane unless it involves Haga lying UNHURT on the pavement while Spies runs clear for the win.

There is ALWAYS an incident at Rettifilo, - it's impossible to get a reasonable size field through, and I was slack jawed when this moderation was made. Certainly, it slowed the riders down, but has caused innumerable accidents in the process, such as today's. Did anyone see the Superstock bikes trying to get through there earlier this morning. Half of them had to take to the astroturf/grass and the run off. What a great race by the way - Corti from Simeon by one thousandth of a second! Despite all this 'chicanery' by the circuit owners, it is still one of the greatest places on the planet to witness a motorcycle race.

When Herman Tilke fires up CAD to design another formulaic and soulless circuit, why not just get the blue prints out for Philip Island, and Monza, just to be reminded of how it should be done

WTF.spies leading into the last corner on the last lap and runs out of petrol/gas.and finishes 15th as the other pass him before the finish line...

Nope, Fabrizio passed Spies on Lap 16, then Spies came back on lap 17 and took a 3/10ths advantage. Next thing you know...15th

Great Racing....eitherway...!

Spies would have deserved the win...but that's life!
<
For me Fabrizio deserved this as well, he was absolutely unbelievable on the brakes and he seemed to be riding totally on the edge.
<

How cocky he was during his first overtake on Spies?! I thought it had been too early and Spies would have the answer for that for sure, unfortunately he run out of fuel.
Spies must be very mad at the moment, I bet the second race will be even tougher!
<

WSB is the king, I was not shouting out loud so much altogether on all MotoGP races this year...probably including the next 3-4 ones.
Now SSP is coming.

Btw the race direction was too strict to Biaggi, he slowed down totally after his running out, Kagayama should have gone past but I guess he went wrong also somehow in that corner.

Any news on Neuchkirtner? I have heard he has a broken leg...

Was a horrible accident, i've had something similar happen to me in karting and the worst thing about it, is that its totally unexpected. Get well soon Max...

Monza WSB: Race one delayed after serious crash

By Michael Guy

Max Neukirchner and Brendan Roberts have both sustained serious injuries in a first corner first lap crash at Monza. Suzuki Alstare rider, Neukirchner was leading the race when he was hit by Roberts who is believed to have collided with Tommy Hill under braking for the first chicane.

Neukirchner suffered a broken right Femur and a dislocated left foot, whilst Roberts has a break high on his left Femur and also sustained a heavy blow to his throat.

Hill and BMW rider Troy Corser then tangled with both men going down and both bikes catching fire. Despite being hit by Hill’s bike, Corser walked away from the crash alongside Hill.

Factory Kawasaki man Makato Tamada also tangled under breaking and has suffered a broken left wrist.

This could have been the weekend Spies got back in it. Haga down in second race and Ben riding witha fury to pull 5 seconds on the field in 8 laps. I am ready to choke a technician

Edit: Just saw post above, happy for Ben so far in second race but wasnt overlooking the seriousness of the injuries to Max,that sucks. Takes a little of the joy out of it.Any news on weather Haga is OK

Ben must be making sure of the gas situation,he slowed by a second and a half last lap

So far as I'm concerned that's the double for Spies this weekend.

Anyone know what the problem with Haga's bike was on lap 1, and whether he chucked it trying to override it/ride around the problem?

Spies was flawless again, well deserved and dominant win.
<

I feel sorry for Neukirchner, hope he gets better soon!
The commentators just said it would hav been nice to get Mladin for Kyalami onto Max's bike.
Any chance for that? I am really curious how fast he could be, I do not follow AMA but if he is as good as Spies, get him for next weekend!

How many people are WSBK going to send through that meat grinder before the demand modification or drop Monza from the calendar?

I almost edited the post to drop any mention of the chicane since senseless injuries ALWAYS seem to occur there. While mentioning the chicane obviously has no impact on the results that transpire, you're simply setting yourself up to be scorned by fans of riders who are injured during the weekend.

I'm really gutted for Spies in race 1, what a cruel way to lose a race. However, I'm really happy about his performance in race 2.

It's a shame, Spies really should have been back in the championship this weekend.
