Anyone know what the problem with Haga's bike was on lap 1, and whether he chucked it trying to override it/ride around the problem?
Apparently Haga was hit by an airborne missle.

From the WSBK website, "... the crash at the Parabolica on lap 3 of points leader Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox), who had been hit by a bird..."

What happened to Zemke in race two? I don't see him in the results?

Jake got 18th as far as I can remember

With the exception of Andrew Pitt and Eugene Laverty, the WSS paddock proved they have the combined intelligence of an autistic emu.

Lascorz couldn't find the braking marker going into the chicane to save his life (although I do like that he had the bike completely crossed up), Foret was making every lap a living hell (I have no idea why he can't just click a few laps off without mugging someone) and Crutchlow decided to celebrate 50m after the finish while people were crossing the line at 150mph.

WSS is what gives racers a bad name; consequently it also produces the best racing. Figure that one out.

There's just nothing more boring than people who always feel the need to tell everyone
about what they dreamt the night before. Save it for your shrink.

Working for the OBL is a dangerous occupation, well,up until recently anyway. Hazard pay has gone way down in the last 4-5 months.

Pics of 'that' incident

The start of it all as Tamada collides with Aussie Brendan Roberts

While Tamada falls, Roberts becomes a passenger (note the rear wheel and direction of Roberts' bike)

A bit of carnage further up as Tommy Hill now goes down (not sure whether he had been hit by Roberts)

Hill falls off and his bike becomes a bowling ball aimed at the middle of the pack (note Parkes on the far right who has seen and is watching)

While I think you may be a bit harsh in some aspects of what you have written, I am glad that I wasn't the only one who noticed the Crutchlow aspect and celebration which I thought was frankly irresponsible in terms of the place as that could have been extremely nasty.

Was it Lascorz who came past shaking his head?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (alex29 @ May 11 2009, 06:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Was Brendon Roberts injured?

Yep.

Reports are that his broken femur is worse than that of Neukirchner and may sideline him for longer. But these are only early reports and no confirmation other than he has broken his femur.

Neukirchner suffered a broken right Femur and a dislocated left foot, whilst Roberts has a break high on his left Femur and also sustained a heavy blow to his throat.

Great races. Spies should have been double winner.

I wonder if Fabi and Haga had any words later. I mean, with Spies DNF it was kinda a moot point. I'm not for team orders until a championship is really on the line, and here its way too yearly, but it sure looked like Haga got stuffed a few times. I enjoyed it all none the less, al except the cruel ending of Spies' race one.

Bummer for Max Nucker. Geez what do the nice guys of the sport have to do to catch a break?

Pinky is gay.

Include Roberts in that 'nice guy' comment but how true does it seem that the nice guys do tend to be the ones that get cleaned up or is it just me?

With Haga's DNF in Race 2, Spies has made up some ground on the championship leader and the gap is now 54 points. I wonder what it would be like if Spies hadn't had a 16th, two DNFs, and a 15th.

Great work by Crutchlow in SS. I hope he takes the title.

i saw suggested on another site that they should run straight on for the first lap at monza in WSB and WSS. then go through the chicane as per normal from lap 2 onwards. would solve a lot of crashes IMO.

get well soon Max and Brendon....

Interesting post Al, and it would make sense. However the problem then is that the field would be going so much faster into Curva Grande and the Variente de la Roggia chicane that this may cause something even worse, remember that the track at the Roggia is closed in more than usual by the barriers either side. This was the explanation of the huge F1 crash there in 2000 that killed a marshall, even though they were actually using the new revised Rittifilio chicane so I dont buy it in that instance.

What they really need to do is to stop installing these pussyfoot chicanes for the F1 ....... and make some of the tracks better for bikers. I mean the Rettifilio now turns to almost a 90º angle to the fastest straight on the track and no one has seemed to consider that something could happen like on Sunday?! I think it was built with F1 in mind and accidents like that are so rare, and the driver is well protected in the car that it is deemed an 'acceptable' risk. Now I for one don't want to take all the risk (and fun) out of racing, but christ poor Max had his knee on the floor and it promplty got whacked at got knows what speed by another bike. If they must keep that chicane format there must be a way to prevent that happening. If you look at Tamadas bike it was lucky in the sense that it dug into the grass and pretty much bounced all of its potential enrgy upwards a few times and stopped well short of the rest of the carnage, but Roberts bike hit the deck and seemed to slide. Gravel could be put on the inside but then this is no guarantee that it would hold and stop a bike. In fact it could make things worse and send a bike into a flip which could easily hit a rider on the head (thank heavens Max got hit low down). So what are the other options? A wall is out, because although it would prevent a runaway bike piling into the pack, it would certainly severly injure the unfortunate rider to hit it. What about a SAFER barrier or similar? Or there must be foam barriers that arent fixed the the ground and break up if a rider his them (thus reducing injury to him) but could sufficiently slow down/disorientate a wrecked bike so that it dissipates enough energy to stop before reaching the chicane?

Just a thought...

It's a simple diagram that I knocked out in about 5 minutes, but after watching the races yesterday, this is what I initially thought could be done.

The new entrance would be slighter wider, and a bit faster (which would actually be better, as it would cause slightly less of a bottleneck, I think)
