Who should and who should NOT get a ride in 2008

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(L8Braker @ Jul 31 2007, 02:02 PM) <div class='quotemain'>
It amazes me the lack of respect Hayden gets. If Stoner wins the championship this year and defends it poorly next year, and this question comes up again, how many are going to be calling for his seat?

Me. Just to f with all the Stoner nutriders on here.

It's time to go;

Anyone with "Roberts" for a last name

<
that tickled me

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom @ Jul 29 2007, 01:26 PM) <div class='quotemain'>
Its too soon for Alvaro, he needs more 250 experience for sure.

definately!

krusty (i think it was) - yeah he's good, bloody good in my book, but i think the worst thing to do would be to rush him and he doesnt perform as well as people will expect (not saying that he wouldnt of course but what if?) whats the rush? look how many times he has crashed getting to know a 250. i agree with Tom, besides another world championship wouldnt hurt would it?
<
<

my list of those that should make way:

edwards- a couple of podiums and poles in a factory yamaha team, erm... USELESS!

capirossi- as much as i like him i think it would be a good time for him to retire
<

barros- not as good as i thought he'd be unfortunately

hopkins - not impressive to have been outdone by your teammate who is relatively new to the class, and i dont like him lol

team roberts, yes the WHOLE team, whats the point of riding round at the back? and quit complaining about Honda- its all excuses i dont hear LCR complaining all the time and, hey, theyre in the same position as you! private team, bottom of the ranks... it gets boring.

i think thats it
<

riders i want in:

toseland- can he cut it with the big boys??? (and its a bit more eye candy
<
)

davies- he was AMAZING at laguna

lorenzo actually, strangely, i want him to do well so long as he quits being so damn arrogant. if not then i want to see the rest of the field kick his ... and put him back in his place!

dovi- give him equal machinery to lorenzo and i bet he'd slaughter him. dovi is an awesome rider IMO.

Hayden has showed me this year he deserves his place. Ok hes had a bad seaosn but when Hayden is in a championship winning position he loses something. When he is not like this year he takes risks. He needs to do this whatever the situation and believe in himself and not care about anyone else.

Casey Stoner

Leading only because he's on the fastest bike, has the biggest mouth in the paddock and doesn't respect his competitors, doesn't look happy when he wins.

Valentino Rossi

He lost the title to Hayden, I mean c'mon, HAYDEN!
<

Plus he's old and he's taking up a good seat... I mean C'mon 3 wins and the season is halfway...the dude is over.

<span style="font-size:8pt;line-height:100%I kid, I kid!

Not at all convinced, I can't guess how they will take to the big class, but Lorenzo is the clearly superior 250 rider

I hate to say it, but Checa shouldn't be in Moto GP next season. He's my favourite rider of all time, and I've supported him ever since his first win back in 96, but its over for him. His consistency is the main problem, and although he has two front rows this year, he's gone back to his habit of not being able to stay on the bike when he's in a good position. I reckon he should go to world superbikes along with Max, which he would have more of a chance of some good results. Maybe a swap with Toseland...? Plus, it would be nice to see him up there in the podium positions again
<

Others to get the boot...

Capirossi - Seems to have more on his mind than racing. When he's in form, he's one of the best... but his age and the fact he's started a family now won't help him get a ride next year. Plus, he's been completely destroyed by Casey on the same bike this year.

Tamada - He's a superbike man, plain and simple. Look at his record... about 10 wildcard races and about 5 wins.

Hoffman - I like the Hof, his over-enthusiasm for finishing 6th makes me laugh, but he's ageing and has been outdone by a 37 year old this year on the same bike. Plus, he's got a nasty hand :S

I agree with one of the previous statements, 'anything with the name 'Roberts' in it'.

As for Barros... he's old, very old
<
lol, but he's managed to stick that Duke on the podium this year, aswell as some decent positions up the order. He's beaten his younger teamate so far. Plus, remember when Hodgson and Xaus has the out of date Ducati? I don't remember them putting it on the podium, apart from maybe Xaus in the rain. He's still good.

People who should got oppurtunities...

Obv Lorenzo and Dovi, Lorenzo is pure quality whereas Dovi has stuck with him on a much inferior Honda. Ben Spies and Mike Miladin both should be in Moto GP, but Miladin has left it a little late...

Mladin has already been to the top class and didn't make it. And it's Matt Mladin by the way. Cheers!

Ok, so I can't spell
<

I believe Mladin was in 500's in 93 or 94 or something like that, hardly a long spell. After that he won 6 AMA titles, I think its a little harsh to say he didn't make it...

Oh. and it's Mat with one T
<
lol.

I agree. Consistency is the main problem of all riders in danger of losing their seats.

NEED TO GO:
1. Hoffman - You said Davies didn't have a good opportunity at Laguna b/c you were the permanent team rider?!
<
Youre paranoid, you suck and you talk like the team director? Bye.

Checa- He's finally too old.

Nakano - no desire

Tamada - who? he still races?

Capirossi - how did he become such a headcase this past year. Yeah, the 800's are gay as hell. Quit flipping out and ride, or move on.

RDP - Popping a wheely for 5th place? Nakano snagged a podium on a worse bike in '06. Clearly, you have no idea what's expected of you.

MOVE UP:
West - Every champion has consistency. West does the same thing over and over. Keep him around

Spies - He's schwantz's protege. He's a Texan. He rides for Suzuki. He and Nicky are the only people to beat Mladin in AMA SBK championship. The combination can't get any juicier.

Lorenzo - He wins in 250. Statistics say you should do well in MotoGP

McCoy - Yeah he's old and semi-retired. So what? I want to see him get sideways all over the track. The first team to sign him gets a stack of my consumer dollars.

ON THE FENCE:
Barros - He made his case and did himself in at the same place--Mugello. He passed Casey for third during a tight title race with Valentino in the lead. Predictably, his bike has been a bit slow since then. Casey is 44 points ahead. I expect his bike will get a bit faster at Brno. He'll have to produce after the break.

Edwards - He's 7th this year (2 podiums). Not bad, not great. He's within striking distance of Hopkins, Melandri, & Vermeulen. If Yamaha come back strong after the break and Suzuki or Gresini is weak, he might finish in 5th or 6th. He doesn't deserve complete banishment yet.

Elias - His flashes of greatness make me hope he stays around for awhile. Plus, I love his riding style. However, he is in a rut. Winning at Portugal was epic. Passing on Rossi at Turkey was good but a bit sloppy. Hitting Nicky at ramming speed was pathetic. Breaking his leg on a routine lowside is miseable. He needs to turn it around.

I agree Checa should pack his leathers and move on, anywhere but MotoGP.

Barros is done. His younger team mate is very ordinary so a veteran with 20 years at this level should be beating a guy thats won nothing. Hodgson and Xaus were riding version 1.0. That bike was nowhere near as competitive as the 07 kit. Yet Xaus got a podium in the dry at Qatar in 04. Barros is a mid pack rider who should have stayed in WSBK.

Gotta defend Capr x here.
Remember if it wern't for Sete either him or Marco probably would be sporting number 1 this year.
Granted he has not meshed with the 800 this year I have read about his throttle style being either pinned on or shut off which is the opposite approach the 800 requires.
He's struggled with the new bike just like Nicky but doesn't get as much leeway because he doesn't have the championship mantle.
I know some will say that his bike is much better than the Honda's but I look at the D'Antin boys who supposedly have almost equal equipment and they aren't doing much either.

No one mentions Hopper but he's had less success than Loris.
Would love to see Roger Lee and Ant West ride circles around that 5.5
million dollar contract.

Sofoglu on a Gresini?

Oh boy, a Stoner fan saying that a rider doesn't deserve his MotoGP seat because he crashed. The irony's killin' me!

I'm not made for this kind of comedy!

I think Nicky will follow the KRJR path of Champion to mid-bottom of the pile over the next 3 years and eventualy 1 more year at the back of the pack...and it will be a sad thing to watch!

Nicky will finish outside of the top 5, and very likely out of the top 8 this year.
In 2008 he willl end up mid-back of pack (Nakano territory) be out of the top 10 next year and be dropped by Repsol Honda.
In 2009 he will be riding for Roberts, LCR, Minolta, Tech 3, Kawasaki or D'Antin on a year deliver or be dropped deal.
And 2010/2011 he will leave GPs to go back at AMA (Mladin will finaly retire by then) or go WSBK.

everyone knows hayden was a Lucky motgp winner in 2006, even with everything going his way in 2006 (other than the pedrosa incident) he only marginally won it. he was consistant thats all.

i will bet anyone anyone hayden will never win another motogp championship. in fact he will never finish in the top 3 ever again in the championship. as he will always be behind stoner, pedrosa and rossi.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>he was consistant thats all.
Not "thats all." He was consistent. Full stop. Thats all you need to be.

You can't win a whole championship purely on luck, maybe you might get lucky in a couple of races, but not for a whole year.
And what does the margin matter, even if you're only one point in front, you're still the champ.

He won it due to Rossi's bad luck and his own consitant top 5 results.. pure and simple.. See my latest post in Stoner v Rossi whinging thread..

Don't think so. He has a lot of talent. He will be at the sharp end for a while, like it or not and he deserves his ride totally.
