Who should and who should NOT get a ride in 2008

[quote name='tinks' date='Jul 29 2007, 10:23 AM' post='82003']
Hayden

Guintoli i think should have the chance of a better bike, i quite like him

Totally agree with this one, Guintoli has ridden a couple of really good races this season.

One more,

Hayden to lose his seat at Honda. He should goto a smaller team. He was given 4 years in 990. Yeah he finally won it, but was never really a threat in the 3 years prior. Though he was on the best bike.

He wont ever win again, not against the likes of pedrosa on the 800's.

He says he loved the 990's, but he was never really sucessfull on it anyway.

I supported Capirossi and Rossi for the championship last year; I admittedly would not have done so if the Australians had been serious contenders. I think that I seriously underestimated Hayden, and I have been incredibly impressed with his bearing under much adversity this year. I think he may have the most character of any of the riders, and he is obviously not without talent. The Honda and/or the michelins have by general concensus been rubbish this year, and the HRC bike has been designed entirely for Pedrosa, who, like him or not ( I don't ) has very major talent and would show up most people on equal machinery. I think Hayden is better than all the older current riders (obviously except Rossi) and the younger riders except Pedrosa, Stoner and Melandri, and he is not necessarily worse than these three. Given that he is also American, why would anyone dump him from the premier class?

What is this hard on everyone has for Toseland?? Laconi handed him the SBK championship the year he won it. The next year he was regularly trounced by Lanzi and deservedly lost his Ducati ride. He then gets on Vermeulen's bike and does well. Does that make him deserve a motogp ride? I think not. With Toseland on that bike and Rolfo as his team mate, it's hard to tell how good that Ten Kate Fireblade really is. I think the bike is making him look better than he is. "Washed up" Checa handed his arse to him in qualifying on saturday by half a second and on equal machinery.

For those who want to get rid of Barros, I wish you luck. He happens to be the only South American rider in Motogp and also happens to come from the largest bike market in South America. If Sebastian Porto (Argentina) had stayed around he would have been in motogp by now and Barros would have been surplus to Dorna's marketing requirements.

Haha, you sound so bitter.

Toseland has NEVER been to Suzuka before, apart from the few 1 day tests he did in the rain, compared to Checa who went there for night on a decade.

Wel he had a rookie season, then a year to build followed by 3rd and 1st in the world championship. Superbike riders don't ride to the top much faster than that so i wouldn't really complain. The idea of throwing out Hayden is rediculous to be honest, IF he runs out his Repsol contract without really getting on terms with the 800's then i would say a lower team awaits him, but to quite entirely would be a joke.

Its true, he didn't have Suzuka experience but still i don't think his performance will have gained him any leverage or made him any more popular with Honda. Nothing can deny the way he has ridden this season though so get him in motogp no matter what it takes.

How does Hayden possibly deserve to lose his seat? Its not like Honda have a much better rider waiting in the wings who he's holding back, especially as Melandri has now signed for Ducati. Who should he be replaced by? Elias? Julian Simon? The guy's been on the podium twice in the last three races, and I hate what if scenarios, but its hard to see him off the podium at Laguna had Hopkins and him not come together. There is no pleasing some people. I think Hayden's taken enough .... from people this year to be cut a little bit of slack, especially considering the fact that he never complained once this year, unlike all the other Honda riders. He just got on and did his job, which has led to two podiums recently. Those who think he should lose his seat are either delusional or really bitter Rossi fans.

i can´t imagine Hayden to loose his Honda-Seat

i think Hoffmann will be in big trouble to get a new ride,
Checa and Barros are in trouble too
because there are so many young and upcoming riders

like Dovizioso, Lorenzo and Alex de Angelis.

Guintoli could be a contender for a bigger Team too

I'm not bitter at all. Toseland is a fine rider but he's not the "British Saviour" some people make him out to be. From the sound of things Rea looks like a much better bet for Dorna to fill that Britsh slot.

Toseland's last season at Ducati was an embarrassment to be honest. The young test rider (Lanzi) showed him up and that season can't be wished away no matter how you spin it.

I didn't know that Toseland had never been to Suzuka and kudos to him for beating some very good Japanese riders in qualifying. But Checa showed how good even a mid-pack motogp rider is not to talk of the top guys in motogp. IMHO Spies' mid-field motogp lap time at Laguna on a Superbike is a far more impressive feat (plus beating Mladin last year) and he definitely deserves a ride in motogp.

^^ I couldn't agree more.

The only image I get in my head when reading some of these posts is BITTER ROSSI FANS! Nicky is doing a better job than a lot of other folks at adapting to the new ..... RC212V. No way should he lose his spot. I mean, he beat Pedrosa, who the bike was designed for in the first place!! That says something I think.

So why isn't there a new crop of riders from South America coming through to replace him? From your logic (and with no other Sth American looking like coming through) he'll still have a ride at the end of 2015!

Toseland is a much improved rider in 2007! You only have to have watched some of the racers to see that he is agressive but fair. Bayliss loves racing him ... I think that is a fair enough compliment to his ability!

and finally ...

For those that want to get rid of Nicky or who think he is not deserving of a spot ... what a load of ....! Can't say much more than that!

As you well know Krusty talent is not the only criteria for getting a motogp ride (otherwise you'd be there too). I was just trying to point out that Barros is all they have right now. Sooner rather than later his nationality won't matter and he'll have to go. When that will be is hard to tell but I'm almost certain he'll be retained by D'Antin for next year.

who can replace hayden? how about Lorenzo? if they had balls they would of chased lorenzo. too late now

Is he better than Hayden? .... yeah. in 2 years time he would have more POTENTIAL to win than hayden ever will.

Hayden 1 vs Lorenzo 0 ... MotoGP championships ...

Come to think of it ....

Rossi 5 vs Hayden 1 vs All Others current riders 0 MotoGP championships (KRJR has gone AWOL so he doesn't count any more)

My point ... making outrageous statements about the current MotoGP champion being punted from the series is just stupid! You may as well get rid of everyone!

Lorenzo has proved nothing (yes I realise he hasn't yet had an opportunity in MotoGP) and he looks good on a 250, but so what ... so did Biaggi, Capirex, Melandri, Jacque (all champions) and they have never won a MotoGP title (only one of them may yet prove me wrong)!

I want to see Lorenzo in MotoGP just so I can see the top half dozen riders wipe that chuppa chupp off his face! I can't wait for 2008!

Everyone has POTENTIAL ... at least Hayden has a MotoGP championship!

Lorenzo?! On a Honda?! Haha, yeah, right, of course. He's definitely not the kind of rider that Repsol Honda want or need.

It amazes me the lack of respect Hayden gets. If Stoner wins the championship this year and defends it poorly next year, and this question comes up again, how many are going to be calling for his seat?

To be honest Tom, he should already have it. Didn't Ducati make a run at him last year before he signed his contract?

....sorry off topic...
