The term GOAT is bigger then achievements. Its thrown around to much. It about the total take over of a sport. From an economical stand point the sport will not be as good without you. In my lifetime I have only witnessed 2 goats in any sport. Micheal Jordan and Valentino Rossi. Love him or hate him his domination of the spot has lasted longer than his talent. Motogp will long rely on him for a long time yet. Greatest of all time should not be a term thrown around for the .... of it.
Disagree. That title is Casey Stoner's. When Marquez does that on a Ducati, them we can say he's equal to Casey. We will call Marquez the BOAT then

You could argue that Ali is GOAT based on being a HW and not needing weight divisions. Otherwise SRR is the man, he could box, he could brawl, he had a chin made of iron to match his will. He beat top fighters at 135-160, is easily the best WW of all time and arguably the best MW of all time but at worst a top 5. I recently watched his last fight against Lamotta and even though by all reports he was exiting his prime once he moved up to 160 he hits Lamotta with frightening speed and power. Sadly with Robinson we never got to see just how good he was in his prime as the majority of his fights weren't recorded. Robinson won his first 40 fights before losing to the larger Lamotta but then would go on to win his next 88 fights reaching 128-1 before losing again.
Other guys who you can make strong cases for are Henry Armstrong, though he believes that even at his best he wouldn't have beaten Robinson. However Armstrong held 3(126,135,147)of the world titles at once when there were only 8 divisions and shortly after challenged for the 160lb title that ended in a draw though most felt he did enough to win.
You have someone like Sam Langford who is without a shadow of a doubt the greatest fighter never to win a world championship thanks to the colour line being drawn. Langford was a freak and knocked out top fighters from lightweight(135lbs) all the way up to heavyweight. Jack Dempsey wanted no part in an aging Langford who story actually ends quite sad as he died poor and blind but had to continue fighting even whilst losing his vision. Despite fighting half blind he was still considered one of the best HWs in the world standing at only 5'8 and generally weighing under the Lightheavyweight limit. I think his story could actually make a great movie.
Greb is arguably the best ever but I have to admit other than reputation and the fact is the only man to have beaten Gene Tunney, the man who dethroned Dempsey despite Greb being a middleweight.
Pepp is a good call as well, his losses to Sadler are held against him far too much. People either don't realise or take into account that Pepp Saddler the fact he was in a plane crash that resulted in doctors telling him he would never walk again. Pepp had a record of 230-11 with 10 of those loses coming after his crash. Really an unbelievable effort considering he had most of his success after being seriously injured, you have to wonder that if not for the crash just what else the guy could've achieved.
Great post.
I think Ali is overrated anyhow and never was the GOAT. He had a great chin, but took far too much abuse to be considered a GOAT. I dislike Ali quite a bit personally and have never made any secret of that elsewhere. Always enjoyed the beating Smokin' Joe gave him in Manila. It was a public service that was done, that unfortunately has never fully been appreciated by the public at large.
In that time Ali took a lot of heat "me included" for being a draft dodger but as time went by and you learn more and more about the inner workings of the Viet Nam war he was forgiven. Now that ..... Jane Fonda, I will always wish the worst on her till the day I die.

My qualms with Ali have nothing to do with Vietnam. I actually commend him for standing up against an unjust war. My issues with him relate to his Nation of Islam ........ and his absolutely horrific treatment of Joe Frazier who helped Ali financially when he was banned from boxing. Imagining being helped by someone financially, and then the media, dog whistle and racist tactics against an honorable man who did nothing to you? Frazier went to his grave hating Ali and bragging that he beat Ali so badly in Manila, that Ali's health deterioration was likely due to that beating. That to me was such a black mark against Ali for me personally. I hold Rossi accountable for reprehensible behavior, and I do the same for other figures who have done equally reprehensible .....
I was mostly a big Ali fan, particularly the Foreman fight, "When We Were Kings" etc. but didn't realise about the Frazier stuff till near Frazier's death, far from admirable. Not big on the Nation of islam either.
Can't in all conscience follow boxing at all now.

Whatever I thought of him as a boxer, all that Nation of Islam stuff was ......... I've always thought that his devotion to the group was sincere, but was the product of a not very sophisticated young man, who gravitated toward a group of likewise simple-minded types who had a very poor grasp on the meaning of Islam - but needed some kind of organization to be a part of, in a deeply divided culture, where black people had good reason to be frightened and angry; wanting to have a strong militant voice, rather than be mowed down and abused the way members of the Christian-church approved organizations were.
His argument that no Vietnamese ever encroached on his rights the way white Americans did, whilst very much true, somehow rang a bit false at the time, but then again, I wasn't terribly sophisticated then either.
Grand Prix motorcycling legend Mick Doohan reckons Marc Marquez is "on another level" compared to his MotoGP title rivals.
Defending champion Marquez had a relatively slow start to the 2017 season, dropping 37 points off the championship lead after six races.
However, strong subsequent form, including four wins and seven podium finishes in the last eight races, has elevated the Honda rider to a 16-point lead in the standings over nearest rival Andrea Dovizioso.
Doohan, who was unbeatable in the 500cc motorcycle world championship between 1994 and 1998, considers Marquez better than the rest of the field.
"I think he is too strong at the moment, he is above his opponents," said Doohan.
"He is on another level. He is as good as [Valentino] Rossi - he is strong and confident, has a good bike, and gets better at races where he suffered last year.
"Marc keeps building up his already big confidence. His advantage in the championship is not very big, but he will be able to increase it in the next races."
Doohan reckons that, unlike Marquez, main rival Dovizioso is not able to "dominate" the top riders in MotoGP.
"Dovi is not in the same position of level as Marc," he added. "He has been fighting with the top riders for many years, but I don't know if he can really dominate them.
"But maybe I am wrong and Dovizioso will show it to me."

Oh, Doohan doesn't think Dovi is a contender? I have heard that somewhere, before.Looks like Michael Doohan shares my opinion regarding Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso.
