Has anybody noticed that the NEW control tire is yielding times nearly identical to yesterday's race pace.
<

I'm glad they slowed things down with this new rule. It makes you wonder when it was actually implemented.

You'd think they would jump at the chance to try the 'Stones.

Something sounds fishy here - maybe they weren't offered any tires??

I hope they don't have some kind contract with Michelin till end of the year, which would prevent them from testing the Bridgestones.

It has been suggested more than once that Michelin was paying a lot of the bills at Tech3,including Edwards salary. Is that a fact,or rumor. If it is fact,it makes total sense why they are not testing with the new Stones

Their leaving it to the factory team i.e. Rossi

Yeah cause the riders don't need anytime to adapt

Shhhhhhh Lex.

Don't point to the holes in the story before the season even starts.

Just nod and agree. Yes its much safer and slower now.

As a thought on some perhaps pointless tangent I played golf today 33 degrees (91.4 to US) and blue sky. I was using my mate’s driver (1 wood). I use steel shafts due to my Neanderthal/gorilla genes however I got much better feel and flex from Carbon. I said to my mate (who is an engineer), "be good stuff to build a motorbike frame out of".

He reckons you can engineer more into Carbon Fibre now than any metal alloy. He also thinks Ducati would have yachties, golf club manufacturers and just about everyone else consulting on this. His take on this is that you can engineer nearly any property into Carbon Fibre whereas metals are limited to metal type properties.

Again, the reason from Yamaha for Tech 3's absence is there is nothing new for them to test. My immediate thought was 'what about the control tire which is new to both riders and the team?' but apparently that's not reason enough. My guess is there isn't enough money without Michelin paying the bills for Poncheral to justify operating the team for a day just for a tire test.

Well done dorna. Neither michelin or dunlop, both of whom were putting money into the premier class and in my view were much more likely to continue to do so in the long term than energy drink companies etc, now remain.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Arrabbiata1 @ Oct 28 2008, 12:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I'd love to see Mikka go well - I think he's not only got a lot of talent but he's proved that he's a racer at heart. On Sunday he over rode the KTM trying to catch Simonceli so that the factory could bow out of 250's with a win - he wouldn't settle for second.
Another former 250 rider with a similar attitude has done well on the ducati. Kallio might be the perfect guy for a ducati , the effective employment of which seems to require just such a willingness to explore the limits of the bike.

Maybe also a reason for tech3 not testing is that this is a prototype of tires. At the next test they might be different.Well,i don't know too much about it but the real reason is probarbly contract with Michelin as said.
Any news on the weather today?

Michelin are goooooone.

Tech 3 have as much of contract as Lorenzo or any other Michelin rider.

Ok,makes sense.

No, it makes you wonder when this was actually implemented.

Shoehorning again Lex. The track temperature during the race was almost double that during practise, a lot of riders were caught out with set up - (although the lap record fell), the same mistakes weren't going to be made again during testing. Isn't it reasonable to suppose that Bridgestone have gone in to the new rule at the standard that they went out - and are able to provide/furnish the paddock with a very usable tyre, albeit with broader parameters due to the decrease in selection available to the rider. Riders have thus selected a control compound not dissimilar to that which was used by Stoner Pedrosa and Rossi during Sunday's race The point is that forthwith there is an freeze on future development in order to slow the lap times down - where currently there is no reason why they shouldn't work as well as they did on raceday.

I'd agree with that .......... though it does have some properties that render it non satisfactory for some things, eg, The hysteresis means it will currently not replace say spring steel , .... but I think Ducati are on a good thing with the idea of using that inate dampening with the ease of engineering ....

True, but,If Michelin is a big money contributor and pays Edwards salary,i could see that affecting Tech 3 a little more than the other riders wouldnt you think. It seems weird that this question hasnt been addressed and answered by now.Im sure there are plenty of inquiring minds in the press who would like an answer.Like Austin said, maybe they just dont have the funds with the Michelin money gone.Whatever the reason, its seems someone doesnt want questions being asked. If an answer doesnt come out by today we can assume that Dorna doesnt want financial bad news being spread about

Aha yep just like the vast reduction in speed (laptimes) when they switched to the 80.. oh um i see what you did there
